  • Did you put scruffy in with the spinners at anypoint? Am looking into what it takes to make the lifting arm hinges strong enough.

    • the first scruffy took on spinners and the lifter held up fine but the front edge of the scoop got bent up, the old versions is my avatar

the scoop was just 5mm mild steel, the new 1 is thinner but it has a structure underneath which should make it more ridged and hopefully more prone to getting a gash rather than bet as i can then just weld it up

main suggestion don't use door hinge tried it and it bent, in the end i got some steel tube that was 8mm bore and made my own hinge which held up well

      here is a pic

      • thought i should do a minor update on scruffy after maidstone ......good bit of fun lol, managed to shove a few in the pit and flipped a bot (well rolled it lol) and it had no problems self righting even with the missing spikes

my 1mm titanium blade bent so i either need to get a piece of hardox or 2-3mm ti, all my goth spike broke so i will need to look into getting some made from ti bar and my servo/micro switch controller for the actuator packed up on the last fight (luckily)

upgrade plans are to go back to 4s lipo instead of 3s the get the old scruffy speed back but the actuator is already fast enough so i plan to use a resistor pack form a car fan/heater system to keep the power to around the 12v mark

ive also been looking at the battle switches but i am unsure if they will work with the dx3e pistol grip tx so might just have to make another servo switch, upgrade the blade to something thicker and change the spikes for something stronger

night fury ran ok in the playtime at the beginning but died at the end turned out to be the battery had swollen so i think i ran it for to long or possibly damaged it somehow but my spare battery still runs it fine, anyway i was unsure on lipo disposal so i check on the net and found out it was easy just drain it flat and its safe so i did so

only upgrades night fury needs is some new front scoops probably best to get some hardox

on another note i will hopefully be starting my heavyweight in the near future its gonna be old tech wheelchair motors and 4QD esc as i already have these and im aiming for 5mm steel armour, im also leaving room for upgrades later on once these bits have broken lol

        • got some more done to my beetleweight

it has been shortened to save some weight, the 2 rear spike will be changed to slightly longer version and im planning to have a lifting scoop on the front powered by a servo with 12kgcm torque and i have also found some wheels/tyres with a bit more grip

          • That's class mate. Look forward to seeing it in the Slaughterhouse

            • lol im just hoping it will hold up to all the spinners,im using 3mm t6 aluminium for the main armour

also just weighed it without the top plate, scoop etc and its 1.34kg looks like it will have to go on a diet and might end up as a ram bot, might look into lighter servos

              • I'd maybe look into replacing your side panels with say HDPE or similar as it would be lighter and would flex on big hits instead of being bent in and possibly fouling the wheels. Anyway, a small lifter should be doable in the 150g or so you have, just something enough to break the opponents traction and give you an advantage. Love the spikes btw

                • might have to try that

but i can cut back at some of the internal material and the front and rear panels have to be trimmed on the top and bottom corners, im also changing my servo mount for something lighter and tve check the weight of the nightfury style scoop and that's allot lighter than i thought it would be, so i might even manage a few spikes mainly i want 2 more at the back 2-4 at the front and another 1 on each side in the middle just need to work out where to put the removable link and led, pitty we can use a switch

                  • had a minor issue when testing the servo, when i use it the hole robot lunged backwards so i tested it with another tx/rx and it was even worse so i then checked it against an old servo i had and it seamed fine so ive ordered a a different high torque servo to try out

anyway not got much done added extra spikes and put the 15mm spikes on the back

ive also started to make a front lifting scoop but i dont think it will stand up to much so will probably make something out of steel

the plan is to paint it green and maybe fir a red led between the wheels on each side, since its night fury esk i might stick with the names from the movie how to train your dragon and call it the terrible terror or maybe something like midge fury unless anyone can think of something that sounds better lol

unfortunately couldn't shove a 13kg bot lol but managed a 1kg cat food box

                            • did a bit more to the beetle

started to look at making it lighter as its already at 1.5kg, so will be drilling holes in a few places and trimming down edges to get enough weight back for a few extra bolts and bits, might also change the top panel for something thinner or some 3mm polycarbonate

                              • Is it hard to tap threads in the end of the ally sides? Do you need special equipment to do that? Is there any chance of a basic run down of what's involved lol dead interested in it
