Awesome! I did something almost identical with my real robots motors and gearboxes years ago.

Thanks! The motors themselves are surprisingly good in all honesty, can't see them being a permanent solution (plastic gears and all), but it's free so why not? Easy to mount as well, quite a handy bit of kit! Might be able to find a use for those LEDs that it had too...
I've got a ludicrously oversized but light motor (for this application, anyway) for a drum spinner on the front too, just need to make a decent drum first!

Harry has started an interesting rebuild diary here http://www.bigconkers.com/forum/rpm-rebuild hope its helpful to builders to get an idea on how things are mounted and the workings of a battling 1.5kg machine

A quick video of the drive that I'm planning to use in my beetle. Has 4 Pololu motors on 60mm wheels and a 3s Lipo. Currently uses a Sabretooth but I'm planning to swap it for a pair of botbitz or something similar.
Won't be using this design as this was used for my uni project last year but the drive seems perfect for the job.
