    Mechanical Noise - Series 1

ok lads, it seems to me that every single point of missunderstanding is out of the way, and I now have (and understand) both of your tactics (and Alex, all of Chris tactics are NOT exactly impossible to pull off, when two wedges with 0 mm GC hit each other, the one who hits harder will slide underneath the other) so theres no real point to argue about, the battle wont be fought with your posts yknow, it will be fought in a battle written by me, expect it to be posted tomorrow

Alex, WHY would I drive into your wedge (and therefore into your claws)? That wedge is between the claws, and therefore in the WORST possible position! The only way the wedges will collide is if we quite literally meet head-on...which is highly unlikely. More likely is that I get under your body, or even one of your claws, at which point the battle is virtually ALL in my favour, unless Tengu does something.

But like Martijin said, its no use fighting now...well just wait and see what happens.

              Fight 1

Love Bite V2.0 vs SOR 5.0 vs Storm 2

Love Bite V2.0: A lovely name, I have to say. This machine entered by Chris Cooper is a double-wedge equipped with a pair of powerful vertical pincers, quite well capable of grabbing, damaging and pitting most machines that get in its way. As if this isn€™t enough, there€™s also a front hinged flipper on the other side of the machine. This machine might just produce a lovely bite.

SOR 5.0: SOR 5.0 is basically a€¦ great all rounder, created by Andy Jackson. It€™s equipped with an average flipper, an average spinning weapon, average traction and nice armour. Basically, it€™s the kind of bot that can beat any kind of machine, isn€™t it?

Storm 2: And so we meet our first realie of the tournament (courtesy of Martyn Forsyth), and it€™s one of the best you€™ll find. Storm 2 has impressively won Robotwars€™ New Blood competition, and finished second after Typhoon during the 7th series. This 6-wheeled invertible rambot has quite some power in it€™s body, perhaps even enough to keep up with some of the best vapours out there

              3€¦ 2€¦ 1€¦ Activate!

Straight from the start, it€™s clear that Love Bite V2.0 and Storm 2 are aiming for each other. Chris€™ high-speed vapour (30 mph!) recklessly rushes towards Martyn€™s realie, which can dodge this first attack. Both machines are now near each other and an impressive struggle kicks off. In the meanwhile, Andy seems to be rather overwhelmed by the grudge his opponents seem to have against each other, and his machine drives through the arena rather passively. Love Bite tries to get hold of Storm 2 with it€™s pincers, while Storm 2 is trying to effectively wedge and ram Love Bite. It€™s Storm who turns first, drives in at Love Bite€™s side and slams it against the nearest arena wall. The impact causes Love Bit to fly up and over Storm 2, ending at its back. Not wasting a single second, Chris turns his machine around and slides his pincers underneath Storm€™s back. The crushing machine now goes in full reverse, dragging his opponent backwards. But Chris is unlucky, and Storm€™s flat armour, together with his own high speed, make sure that his grip slides loose. Storm 2 is free once more. All of the sudden, SOR 5.0 comes driving in at Storm 2. It€™s seems like Andy didn€™t really like his current role in this battle and decides some action is needed. Storm 2 turns around, but this doesn€™t save him from being wedged by Andy€™s flipper. The flipper is fired and Storm 2 ends up inverted, much to the pleasure of both Andy and Chris, who know the rambot isn€™t halve as effective upside-down. Martyn knows this as well of course, and he decides his last resort lays in the pit release button. Martyn charges in, and Love Bite gives chase. The two collide into the big button (the siren is heard throughout the arena), where it€™s Martyn who rams his back into Love Bite€™s side. SOR 5.0 comes in as well, this time using its horizontal blade to bring some damage into the fray. Both his opponents are very well-armoured though, and the only result are a few dents. Storm backs off now, in an attempt to move the battle towards the pit. However, Love Bite now turns its flipper towards Storm 2 and high speed make sure he reaches him without catching a sweat. Love Bite easily gets underneath the inverted body of his opponent and with all 6 wheels off the ground, Storm 2 is carried towards the nearest arena wall. Here Chris fires his weak flipper, and Storm 2 is stranded against the arena-wall. Desperately, Martyn starts firing his own flipping arm, but it moves in thin air and isn€™t helping him any further. Andy comes in the scene as well. He looks at the helpless machine of Martyn and knows he can finish this battle once and for all. He slowly moves underneath the stranded bot and slides his Bigger Brother-style plate underneath. A burst of CO2 is seen, and although SOR€™s flipper isn€™t the strongest one around, it easily levers Storm 2 over the arena wall, in an elegant fashion I must say.

              Heat B
              Round 1
              Fight 2

Flank Attack vs Mega Masher 2 vs Tengu VII

Flank Attack: Alex McWilliam was clearly looking at Tough As Nails when creating this vapour, and he can€™t be blamed. Of course, with his Dutch pride he couldn€™t resist to base a bot around this Dutch success-formula. However, Flank Attack has got some modifications compared to its real counterpart. The most important one is the scoop between the two pincers, which should give even more control over his grabbed opponents.

Mega Masher 2: Another machine based on a successful realie. This time we€™re looking at a modified heavyweight version of former SHW-champion Minion. With added invertible-ness and added armour, Mega Masher 2 could be a dangerous machine.

Tengu VII: Tengu VII, perhaps the most infamous full body spinner out there. This is probably the most successful machine Alex Holt has at his disposal. With a spinning body dishing out 70-80 kJ of kinetic energy, this is a machine to be feared.

              3€¦ 2€¦ 1€¦ Activate!

Tengu VII and Mega Masher 2 start spinning up straight away, like spinning bots are supposed to do. Flank Attack however, with no real reason to hesitate, accelerates straight away. McWilliam is aware of Tengu€™s fearsome reputation and decides to go after Mega Masher. McWilliam clearly aims to get a solid grip on the Minion-like machine, but Chris can outmaneuver him and both machines end up parallel. Tengu now joins the fray, and it looks like he€™s after Mega Masher too. Mega Masher tries to show his maneuverability again, but discovers dodging a full body spinner is alot harder than dodging a pair of pincers. Tengu€™s blades hit Mega Masher€™s side, and partly rips it open. Chris is eager to escape from Tengu€™s wrath, and tries to turn around Flank Attack clockwise, hoping the horizontal crusher can act as a defensive wall. However, Tengu now tries to drive around Flank Attack clockwise as well, in order to attack Mega Masher, while Flank Attack himself starts driving anti-clockwise to create some room for Tengu to attack. The audience watches how the three robots are driving in circles, and Chris decides he can€™t keep running forever. He turns his wedge around and charges into Flank Attack€™s side, who can€™t react fast enough and McWilliams sees how his robot is slammed against the nearest arena wall. Chris now tries to turn his disc towards Flank Attack, but Tengu comes in again and now hits Mega Masher€™s back. Mega Masher is swung away, but still hits one of Flank Attack€™s pincers in the process, which is dented now. McWilliam drives in at the dizzy Mega Masher now, and succeeds on getting him between his pincers. One of the pincers is denting the armour, but the other one has hit the spot where Tengu made a successful hit earlier on. Flank Attack€™s pincers makes the hole even bigger. Suddenly, a loud siren can be heard, and the pit release button can be seen flying through the arena. Tengu opened the pit! McWilliam is quite happy with this and tries to turn around. However, Mega Masher€™s wheels are still in contact with the ground, and giving much resistance. McWilliam is forced to release his opponent, but now Tengu comes driving in at Chris€™ machine again! Now the other side is pierced as well, and Chris desperately drives his machine away from danger. However, Chris comes to the shocking discovery that his vapour is much slower than normal! It looks like one of his wheels has been slightly jammed by the slice of Tengu€™s first attack, which is made bigger by Flank Attack€™s pincer (and I, the all-knowing narrator, can affirm this). Holt charges in again, and with no change to dodge it in its current status, Mega Masher takes yet another hit against it€™s side. Again Chris tries to drive his machine away from danger, but surprisingly enough, all Mega Masher can do is drive around in circles! The wheel must be jammed completely now! McWilliam sees this, Holt sees this, and sadly for Chris, the judges see this as well. Tengu has immobilized Mega Masher 2, and Chris€™ machine is counted out.

              CEASE

Mega Masher 2 has been beaten into submission

Very nice, well done, Im really lookign forward to the rest of this tourny.

I dont think I have any particular concerns as far as SOR is concerned, thats not to say I have none, as it has a strong reputation, but ive got no critical weaknesses that I can see...

Basically just keep the power up, dont get near it for less than full power hits unless I absolutly cant avoid it. I want to make this as clean as possible, as its the kind of bot where not being clean would be a risky strategy.

Just the normal ones 7.5kilo ones, just assume this unless I specifically state otherwise as they are used in about 95% of fights, so you dont really need me to say every time.

                      SOR 5.0 vs Tengu VII

This is going to be a tough one. If there is a real plan, then it will involve similar tactics for YACATR vs SD IV. I just hope the Hardox will stand up to a blow from Tengu and try and get it up the front wedge. From there I have full control, a great pushing advntage and I can bring the flipper in to play. So really, drive full speed at it, slide the wedge under (taking a knock if nessacary), push it towards a wall and try and toss it over the fence. Failing this, open the pit and play pushybots.

I like your plan Andy, my blades are low enough to hit your wedge, and my special custom skirt like thigns are designed specifically to stop that kind of attack, so good luck with it. Also the spinner rign makes playing pushy bots very difficult as i can just slip to the side as you dont have a proper grip on me.

My best bet here is probably to strand Flank Attack on the arena sidewall with my flipper, that five centimetres (i believe that was it) looks good to me

                          Nice battles, Martijn

I never said anything was going to work did I?

I know I didnt word it properly but I know about all of those features and was hoping that when wedge meets tooth, Tengu jumps onto the wedge or even jumps in the air slightly on impact so SOR can get under.

In other words bob hope and no hope.

Im afraid to say it would more likely just knock you away to the side, with a slight jump.

Wow, nice fights Martjin. Really awesome stuff. My first FRA win, not including AI, with Flank Attack! Almost reminds you of a certain person who won their first Heat Final with a robot called Tough as Nails eh? =P

                                Now, for the next stuff!

You were correct, Chris, but it only has 5cm under the largest part of the body. It varies, but to be honest, it makes no difference. Its just one of those things I like to point out. =P

Now lets see... oh man, holy crap. If people thought that Flank Attack would go out of control, then I can say for certain that 30mph will send Love Bite out of control! My SHW robot doesnt even go that fast! Anyway, Im pretty sure almost all Firestorm flippers require presicion driving, especially when they want to do things that reqiure such presicion as to strand me on the side wall. Its going to be hard to do such things with a 30mph top speed.

So basically what I want to do, is to keep my plow facing his wedge at all times. My plow is 0mm GC while hes 3mm GC on all sides. So that should add to my favor. Im going to play the defensive here, and wait for him to miss the target, and then strike on his out of control robot. There, Ill close my pincers on him, and then take him for a Highway to Hell. He has some nice armor, but Im sure 3 tons of crushing force on both sides will put the squeeeze on that robot.

I have to stop writing such long paragraphs. =P
