  • Mechanical Noise - Series 1

    GC can fight joined Top Speed: 14 MPH when joined. Flipper 18 MPH separate. Spinner 14 MPH separate so i might well start there and start them driving sepertely if it gets hairy. GC has always survived its first battle, but looking at the opponents, there may be a first time for everything

    Omniforce is slower, if i can seperate late in the fight, i might be able to use that, absloute zero turning circle is useless against a pincer, ill probably want to stay away from Disco if possible but ill take it on if necesary.

                The dust is off, the battles proceed

                After a slight delay, I managed to write the first battle of the first round of Heat C. As a matter of fact, I€™m so happy about it I won€™t wait for the second round 1 fight, I€™ll post it straight away!

                Leprosy Infection vs Shovearound 2 vs Whirligig 4.0

                Leprosy Infection: Named after a horrible disease, Leprosy Infection is here to obliterate a robot or two. This invertible box made by Chris Mason boosts a very wide and powerful spinning drum, designed to rip some armour off an opponent. All of this is fitted in a lovely lime green shell, so be affraid!

                Shovearound 2: The name says it all. Shovearound is designed to gain control over an opponent and shove it all over the place, or preferably straight into the hazards. To do this Anthony Politzi gave this invertible box a whole row of lifting forks. Together with 12 mm of Hardox and some skirts, this machine might be hard to take down.

                Whirligig 4.0: Steven McGregor€™s attempt at utilizing the full body sinner-design, and a good one it is. Shuffling plates instead of wheels, Pussycat-style blades instead of your everyday Hypno-Disc ones, and it works invertible too!

                It€™s Shovearound who has the quickest start, and an insane start it is. Both Steven and Chris are still spinning up their weapons, but Shovearound has already reached the middle of the arena, searching for his pray. Chris soon discovers that he is the one Tony is after, when the forked machine turns around and aims for Leprosy Infection. The drum has spun up by now and Chris responds by driving forwards as well. Shovearound tries to dodge the fearsome drum, but at 28 mph that ain€™t easy. When Shovearound turns around, it is still touched by Leprosy€™s drum, and one of his skirts is rammed upwards and dented! Shovearound is now driving in the opposite direction, but no-one noticed that Whirligig has start moving as well! Whirligig catches Tony off guard when he collides in the pusher€™s side, damaging that one skirt even further and even knocking the whole machine away! This is where Leprosy Infection comes in once more, going after Shovearound, and thankful for the work Whirligig has done. But Steven is very moody today, and now turns to the rushing Leprosy Infection. When full body spinner meets drum, it€™s the last one that is swung backwards and damaged quite a bit! Even though the impact made Whirligig wobble a bit as well. The spinning drum of Leprosy Infection has stopped, and some big scars can be seen on it€™s surface. Luckily for Chris, the mechanism is still intact and after one push on the button the drum starts spinning as ever. Shovearound has recovered from the hit and drives into Leprosy Infection now, how happens to outmaneuver his opponent, causing the two machines to end up parallel. The two now drive around each other, looking for an opportunity to attack the other while still keeping their defense up. Both seem to be willing to do this for some time, but they€™re heavily disturbed when Whirligig comes in once more, aiming for the duo (isn€™t that thing a pain in the *ss?). Leprosy Infection tries to rush away from another collision. Anthony on the other hand has made a little plan of his own. He turns towards the back of Leprosy and slides his forks underneath it. One push of the button makes his forks move upwards and lift Leprosy€™s wheels of the ground. Whirligig in the meantime has reached the fray and comes in straight between Shovearound and Leprosy Infection! Leprosy Infection, lifted by Shovearound, literally flies across the arena and hits the nearest wall, with his armour seriously injured. Shovearound has a better faith, but it€™s forks look quite damaged nonetheless. Tony fully realizes what Whirligig is capable of, and also how many damage is done to Leprosy by now, making it easy for him to chose who to attack. At 28 mph, Shovearound rushes towards Leprosy Infection, who€™s hardly recovered from that blow by Whirligig. Chris manages to turn his drum towards the speeding Shovearound, but Tony is having none of it. Shovearound forks slide underneath the front of Leprosy Infection and are fired before Shovearound is knocked backwards on impact. As a result, Leprosy Infection€™s body moves upwards and strands against the arena wall. Whirligig comes in as well, but Steven sees that Leprosy Infection is helpless while against that arena wall. As a matter of fact, the judges see this as well, and while Chris is desperately pushing every single button his controller has to offer, his machine is counted out.

                  Disco and Omniforce to go through. At least one of the Multi-bot will probably get taken out by the fearsome Disco, and that will hinder it just too much.

                    Disco 5 vs Going Crunch vs Omniforce

                    Disco 5: Burn baby burn! Disco 5 is here to rock the house. This wedge-bot invented by Martyn Forsyth carries a big vertical flywheel to simply overwhelm its opponents by power. Except for this there is also the front-hinged flipper across the wedge, in order to flip AND act as a srimech. Dandy!

                    Going Crunch: And here we see the only clusterbot of the entire tournament. Going Crunch is its name, Chris Cooper is its maker. Going, as one of the two halves is called, is a middleweight flipper, simple and effective, isn€™t it? Crunch, the other halve, is a 55 kg spinner, which should quite well work too. Together, they€™re two pesky machines that might ruin your day

                    Omniforce:Not only does this battle bring us our only clusterbot, it also has the first ever FRA Forum style stated omnibot . Andy Jackson is the bright vapourboteer who thought of designing one. You could say it€™s a very slow and passive rambot, but than you€™re ignoring the fact that it can drive in every single direction it wants to!

                    3€¦ 2€¦ 1€¦ Activate!

                    With the fastest machine in the arena going at 14 mph, we can€™t really expect a quick start today, can we? Going Crunch has the questionable honour of being the quickest robot to get off the mark, and Chris€™ vapour drives towards the centre of the arena floor. While Martyn patiently waits for what€™ll happen next (and €˜till his disc is up to speed), it€™s Andy who comes out and seems to be willing to have a go at the clusterbot (which is still in one piece though). Chris responds by aiming his flipper. The two machines now drive around in order to create a perfect assault to the other€™s side. Chris does so by plain old skid-steering and Andy does it€¦ sideways. In the meantime, Martyn has decided for some action as well, and comes in, joining the fray. As a matter of fact, it is driving straight at Going Crunch! A bit of tactical steering of Chris is the result, and Chris manages to dodge the flywheel and even get around the side of Disco! Martyn is surprised by these driving skills and there€™s nothing he can do when Going Crunch€™ flipper slides underneath the back of Disco, and is fired! Disco is thrown away onto its back, and Chris is smilin€™ proudly. Andy on the other hand still wants to have a go at the clusterbot, and drives towards the place where Disco has just been launched (Disco, who is effectively using his srimech at the moment dear readers, in case you were worried ). Chris can€™t avoid the rammer in time and the wedge slams into the clusterbot€™s side. Going Crunch is dragged across the arena, a meter or so, until the sight of the robot suddenly breaking in two halves shocks everyone! Even Andy seems to be puzzled, when two small robots drive away from each other and away from OmniForce€™s wedge, while he was sure there was only one robot when he caught it. €œWhat has happened?€ you might ask, €œThe clusterbot called Going Crunch has just split in two€ I would say. And that is exactly what happened, OmniForce is surrounded by Going Crunch now, who both make a U-turn to attack OmniForce from two sides. Andy is rather worried now and omnidirectionally steers away from danger. Chris however also has the ability of steering, and when Going and Crunch come in, Going horribly misses it€™s target, while Crunch on the other hand, manages to hit OmniForce with its disc! A dent can be seen in the 3.25 mm Hardox now. Crunch would have turned on the aggression now, if it wasn€™t for Disco! Martyn€™s bot joins the fray once again, and hits Crunch with the vertical flywheel. The 55 kg spinner is knocked over and flipped on impact and has an ugly scar on the back right now. Chris starts self-righting, but it seems to be unneeded when Disco unleashes a second onslaught. The disc hits the helpless Crunch again, the good news for Chris is that his machine has just been righted, the bad news is that it is send flying and gains yet another scar. Going and OmniForce on the other hand are stuck in a battle of their own. The fast Going (18 mph) is looking for a chance to get underneath the very manoeuvrable omnibot, who is dodging every attack (and rather stylish, I must say). But even the most manoeuvrable vapours can€™t dodge everything, which becomes clear when Going comes driving into the dancing omnibot and manages to catch one of its corners on its flipper. Without a hesitation Chris flips OmniForce into the air and across the arena, where it safely lands on its back. While Going now gives chase to the invertible box, and while Disco and Crunch can be found at the other side of the arena, trying to use their discs against each other, it€™s the clock that starts ticking, starting with 10, ending with€¦

                      I think this is quite possibly the easiest fight ill ever have here, definitly a nice change from BPQ.
                      Just get under crunch, ram it into the pit trigger, and pit it. After that, sing random hives songs with Andy.

                          First of all SHITE. Second, I plan to go in with my disc to try and damage the shell of whirligig, then if i get it to stop i will flip it onto its side and leave it.

                            Ill start joined again, but Shovearound is fast, ill probably split after the first attack or so, survival is the main aim of this one, but i need to score points also, thats hopefully where i can utilise my pincer attack.

                              Tactics? What tactics? Spin up ASAP, launch straight in and do my damndest to tear it open like a tin of beans in a combine harvester.

                              Two very good machines here, but Shovearound should live up to its name on this occasion.

                                Disco 5 vs Whirligig 4.0

                                It€™s like spinner-frenzy when our two contenders spin up their fearsome discs immediately after the green light went on! While both discs seem to have caught a deadly spinning-speed, it€™s Whirligig who comes out of his starting position, shuffling its way towards Disco. Disco now heads towards its opponent as well, and quite reckless if I may say so, since Martyn very well knows that he can€™t avoid Whirligig€™s weapon, since it€™s spinning throughout its entire arc. Steve on the other hand seems less reckless and manoeuvres his way around Disco, in an attempt to reach its side. Whirligig€™s superior speed is enough to accomplish this, and before Martyn can do anything about it the massive spinning shell of Whirligig spins its way into the side of Martyn€™s wedge! The Pussycat-blades mounted on the shell claw their way over the surface of Disco€™s side and snap 2 titanium ribs that form its chassis, until the 3rd rib proves to be enough to put an end to Whirly€™s attack. Relieved, yet shaken by the slices in his armour, Martyn turns his machine around and brings his own disc towards the slowed down spinning shell of Whirligig. The second disc-attack of today is the result, this time Whirligig being the victim. On impact Disco€™s disc manages to slightly lever Whirligig and snap one of the Pussycat-blades off in the process. With the tide turning in his favour, the euphoric vapourboteer called Martyn Forsyth puts his skid steer mechanism into effect and makes a 360 degree turn, so that the tossed up Whirligig land on Disco€™s wedge. Without hesitation Martyn fires his low pressure, front hinged flipper, effectively making Whirligig rest on its side. Martyn looks happy, and our eager judges immediately active the clock. However, Steve doesn€™t look worried at all. He activates his spinning shell again, and Whirligig starts rolling like a penny on its side. Whirligig is moving again, and the clock stops as quick as it started. Martyn isn€™t very pleased with this, and gives chase to Whirligig, who now heads towards the nearest arena wall. Before Disco can reach him, Whirligig bounces against the wall and falls back onto its bottom. The shell is getting up to speed once more while Disco is still coming in, making a collision unavoidable. A big noise is heard when the two robots go disc to disc, a clash that make the two machines bounce away from each other. Whereas no damage can be seen on Whirly€™s shell (hey, it€™s spinning at 2000 rpm, pretty obvious you can€™t see those scratches ). It€™s Disco€™s front that looks heavily dented from place to place. Miraculously though, the disc seems to be spinning as fast as ever! After being disced, flipped and rolled, Whirligig can finally move freely across the arena once again, and is happy to do so. Steve shuffles his machine away from Disco, but is shocked to see his machine moving rather wobbly. One of the blades being snapped off isn€™t very healthy for most full body spinners, and Whirligig is no exception. With horrible gyroscopic forces working on it, the full body spinner is still capable of turning around. Martyn is fully aware of Whirligig€™s new handicap as well, and the damaged Disco seeks yet another confrontation with Whirligig. Another disc to disc assault makes Whirly move upwards and send Disco sideways once again. The result is Whirligig doing a Mauler-style dance, going completely out of control. Martyn accelerates again, disc-first, and rams Steve€™s pride against the arena wall. The sheer impact of the collision and the disc make Whirligig move upwards, lever it OVER Disco himself until it ends up behind it. Martyn turns around again, ready for another attack. However, he discovers that all the battering he got from Whirligig wasn€™t without effect, and sees his vertical disc is now diagonal, and won€™t spin up anymore! Steve smiles happily that after all those assaults from Martyn he€™s the one to do the damage in the end, and the spinning body is put in reverse. However, this time it€™s Steve to do a shocking recovery! Whirligig does nothing but moving in circles! During that last assault of Disco, a slam that got Disco underneath Whirligig, the vertical (well, a bit diagonal at that time) disc of Disco must have reached and damaged one of Whirligig€™s shuffling plates. With Whirligig doing nothing but spinning severely and wobbling around in circles, and Disco keeping a save distance, the judges are left to count the Scottish spinner out.

                                I know speed when I see it, and Shovearound 2 clearly has plenty of it ! At an incredible pace Tony€™s pusher rushes towards the centre of the arena. Chris however isn€™t really impressed, and the clusterbot called Going Crunch steadily drives to meet him, the two robots still being linked magnetically. When the two meet in the middle of the arena, a deadly dance to see who can outmanoeuvre the other is the result. After a rather boring bit of turning around each other, it€™s the more controllable Going Crunch how moves first, ramming its flipper against the side of Shovearound. The ram is powerful enough to slide the flipper underneath the pusher€™s skirts, and the flipper now tosses Shovearound into the air and across the arena, until it lands onto its invertible back. From where he landed, Shovearound turns around and starts driving forward, since his wait and see tactic heavily failed. Going Crunch turns to drive away from danger, but is too late when Shovearound crashes into the cluster€™s side. Tony levers his forks and carries Going Crunch around the arena. But then Chris decides it€™s time to separate his clusterbot. One push on the button makes Going slide off Shovearound, who still has a solid hold on Crunch now. It€™s clear that Tony has carefully read the rules of Mechanical Noise, which state that he wins when he immobilises 50% of the total mass of a clusterbot, when he takes the 55 kg Crunch towards the just fallen Going, which has Tony€™s main goal behind him, the pit release button. Chris also knows the rules, and he decides to make sure Shovearound shall never reaches the green button in the first place. Going rams into the side of the rushing Shovearound, gets underneath it and impressively pushes the heavyweight against the wall, not flipping it though, since Chris can€™t risk flipping Crunch OOTA. The slam makes Crunch fall in front of Shovearound. Tony isn€™t impressed by a 45 kg rammer though, neither by the 55 kg discbot in front of him, even though Crunch heads its disc towards Shovearound now and scratches the 12 mm of Hardox. Shovearound proceeds it€™s march to the button, and manages to slam Crunch against it! The siren can be heard and Shovearound quickly rushes backwards, away from being surrounded by Chris€™ machines, and towards the open pit. The NSBFL grand finalist bravely gives chase, Going covering the left flank, Crunch the right one. Shovearound chooses to go after Crunch, and when the though Hardox forks collide with the disc, Crunch finds himself lifted up once more. Going immediately changes course to save his companion, which is carried away by Shovearound. While Shovearound is too busy carrying Crunch, Going manages to manoeuvre himself towards the back of Shovearound and find his way to the underbelly of Shovearound again, with some help of his buddy Crunch, who acts as a counterweight to slightly lever Shovearound€™s back-skirt. One flip is what it takes to make Crunch fall off the forks again and throw Shovearound over him. While Shovearound crashes down, Crunch moves away from the fray, knowing the disc couldn€™t harm Shovearound, and makes room for Going to go after Shovearound again. Tony can€™t react in time when Going comes in and wedges the pusher once again, unleashing yet another powerful flip. Tony knows his machine can perfectly run inverted and doesn€™t seem worried. That is€¦ until he sees this flip happens to throw him towards the arena pit. In shock Tony sees his precious pusher falling down the pit, crashing onto the bottom of it.
