Hmmm... He seems to have sneakily started using NG 4.0 with 4 LEMs, hardox and flipper again... Its that version entered in the Killer Toad...
Also Paul you seem to be fibbing a bit about Tri-Tainiums battle record It says 4 wins/1loss, but its lost twice in my tourneys alone! I guess its a typo?
are you saying Paul purposely tries to enter overweight robots? and I say purposely because we TOLD Paul it would be overweight and Paul claimed to take that advise...
Well, after it won FATHR (Fight Against The House Robots), it seemed that there was at least ONE writer on my side, and I also looked, and I thought that 4.0 had more potential than 5.0, but it seems that because Dave and Kody have differing ideas, in Daves tournys, 4.0 is the right side of the limit, but in Kodys tourny, Im screwed
Dont wipe my spot, as I think I may go back to basics with Nitro, so give me some time.
As for Tri-Tainium, it had 2 losses in Liams tournies, lost its first fight...but it was facing Resonance but with Gabriel II in C&B: Dual Duels, it beat Acronyms and Woodpecker, but lost to Infusion and SOR X, after me and SOR made contact, both of our weapon cut out, disabling SORs weaponry, but Infusion appeared and tore me a new one So Ive improved it now.
And Ive now got the new Nitro here.
NITRO-GENE 5.0
€ WEIGHT: 100kg
€ ARMOUR: 3.25mm Hardox for the body, with the panels bolted on onto a steel chassis with Toolox bolts. 6mm Hardox flipper. Inside the body, there€™s 1cm of Vulkanised rubber on the sides and rear, with 3cm on the front to help fight powerful spinners, and theres also 0.5cm of PU foam covering the motors and flipper rams inside for protection.
€ SHAPE: Low invertible box with sides and rear angled in a shape, with the rear angled . The front is completely flat, making it useful at hitting into things and bashing. All the lines have been curved over to make it harder for a spinner to grab onto a panel and rip.
€ MOTORS: 2 Eteks at 48V = 30HP
€ LOCOMOTION: 4 Vulkanised Wheels, each is 40mm in width, and they€™re also 180mm in diameter.
€ DIMENSIONS: (L) 85CM (H) 17CM (W) 60CM
€ COLOUR: Dark Blue all over with the flipper coloured red with the name imblazed on the flipper (running vertically down the robot) in gold writing with a thick silver outline. All the edges of the robot are coloured gold.
€ WEAPONRY: A full pressure Nitrogen powered flipper at 1000psi, using a single 110mm ram at 1000psi. The flipper is mounted in the middle of the robot, and is 15cm wide and runs 75cm up the body. Using a 5cm long 10mm thick Titanium wedge underneath the flipper, and a heavy flipping arm, the flipper runs completely along the ground. Running on a ratio 2.5:1, the flipper produces 1400kg of force at the tips, allowing me to launch anyone away! This version has enough lift to get a robot of equal size 11-6ft into the air, and throw it 11-6ft along. This version has 2 x 1kg Nitrogen bottles, giving me 20 flips! The flipper has enough power to self-right Nitro-Gene 5.0 in a super stylish 540* somersault!
€ SPEED: 22mph
€ GROUND CLEARANCE: 0CM-1CM. At the front, it is completely 0mm. On the skirted sides/rear, its 1cm. 4mm Titanium skirts held on by Hardox hindges are mounted on the sides/rear and join up at the corners, making it harder to get under.
€ STRENGTH: Pushing power and weaponry.
€ WEAKNESS: High ground clearance underneath skirts.
Ah, so you DO hate me. :wink: (dont ask how I know :P)
I know how to check, so Ill do it for you. Unfortunately, with your shape, its hardly possible to perform that armour weight check properly, so Ill assume its like 50kg or something (although your dimensions are shorter, remember Bens bot had 54.9kg with 5mm titanium so thats why Im compensating :wink
WEIGHT CHECK
Armour = ~50kg
Chassis = ~15kg
Motors = ~19kg
Batteries = ~14.4kg (assuming you use 8 NiCad Battlepacks, which I think is what Eteks need at min :P)
Wheels and gearing = ~15kg
Weapon = ~10kg
Weapon power = ~7.5kg
The rest = ~10kg
Sorry, I cant resist a good old study-procrastination rant (not an angry rant; consider it a mild non-vicious rant )
What is the obsession with LEMs and (in particular) Eteks for drive motors?
When you have a weapon on a robot, your drive system is merely a means of transporting said weapon across the arena/towards your opponent. When you have a 1000p.s.i nitrogen flipper for example, why stick two hulking great big Eteks in there to drive it? The motors weigh a whack themselves, add on gearboxes strong enough to take the power output and then batteries required to keep the robot running for a battle. Then on top of that, in real life youre never going to be able to put out all that power to the floor with just a 100kg bot.
Why use all that weight on a drive system thats going to be doing very little pushing (because face it - as soon as the front edge of your robot is under the opponent, youre going to fire the flipper - no pushing involved)
Instead use lighter, less power-hungry motors (whats wrong with Bosch 750s - 1hp each, 3kg and still used by a majority of robots on todays live circuit) and the weight saved could be put to better use in the weapon or armour.
Just as an example, Gary Cairns heavyweight robot Hive used Eteks, going into custom-made (also read: heavy) gearboxes, then out through chains and sprockets to drive the wheels. Four Hawkers were required to provide sufficient power and a couple of speedos to control it. Basic box section frame (not much internal bracing so quite a light frame) and what did that weigh? Around the 95kg mark with NO armour and NO active weapon (I believe it got armoured with HDPE in the end)
Cut down to 2WD unlike Hives 4WD, change to Nicads etc and youd save a bit of weight, but still not enough for a working weapon and hardox armour. My opinion is that if you want to lose weight in your robot, downgrade your drives as that will have the least effect on the robots performance. Too much store is set in fights by these superpowered vapourbots getting all their drive power to the arena floor and achieving their maximum power output.
