Right...Liam, on Bloody Marys stats, Id assume the axe would be able to self right it, but there is no mention anywhere of self righting or being invertible...so...can you clarify that please?
Welcome back to FVAL! This time, it€™s the second round, but who will forge onward to the Heat Final of A in this first battle? The C&BT1 champ, or the VFT6 champ?
Round 2 Battle 1 Salamander III vs. Wedge Devolution
Roboteers, stand by€¦
Booth #1: Alex Holt
Booth #2: Steven McGregor
The first house robot to enter the arena is Exa-Gore-Ic Evo. This invertible house robot is 400kg in weight and has the pushing power to match it. It has front horizontal claws that close in with quite a bit of force and a spike in the middle which €˜pokes€™ robots. The other house robot for this match is Mr. Psycho, and y€™all know him. 750kg, tracks, huge claw, huge hammer, huge in general.

It€™s the acceleration of Wedge Devo that propels it across the arena faster than its foe, and before Alex can even think of what to do first, the wedge has already slid under him and carried him to the wall! Could this be the quickest match so far? Apparently not, as Salamander is flipped, tossed, but pounded against the wall and falls back onto the arena floor. Wedge Devo fiercely persists with its attack, ramming into Salamander while the disc is still dormant to keep up the pressure and push it across the arena. Again, he€™s going for the wall€¦no. Salamander wasn€™t properly on the wedge, and thus simply is tossed only several inches into the air, spinning as it does so, before bouncing off the wall and back onto its wheels, Alex in a panicked state to get the weapon going at least.
Steve keeps pouring on the pressure, as the €˜Devo rams into the right wheel from the side, and although not wedging it still manages to push it across the arena. But Steve is eyeing that disc with some trepidation, and as it gets to full speed, he halts his shoving frenzy and backs away as Salamander turns to face Wedge Devo at last, confidently counting on his trusty 22kg flywheel. We are now treated to a display of Wedge Devo running around, trying to turn past the wheel of Salamander and get at the rear, as were Steve€™s tactics, but Salamander is able to keep the disc pointed at Wedge Devo without much problem, thanks to his 2WD. Eventually Wedge Devo blasts all the way Salamander and rams straight into the pit release button. Salamander immediately gives chase and reaches the area as Wedge Devo can€™t seem to turn away from the button fast enough!
CRASH!!!
The mighty disc proves its worth, as the rear 4mm Hardox panel of Wedge Devo is been loosened on the right side corner, and the place where Salamander hit has been dented quite severely. Salamander backs away to marvel at his infliction, when Wedge Devo finally, and quite suddenly, turns around and buries the wedge in before the disc gets up to its deadly speed. Salamander can€™t seem to find a way out and is tossed over, before Wedge Devo gets at the rear, and carries it to the wall€¦OOF! Wedge Devo crashes against it with the wedged Salamander also€¦unfortunately, due to that crash, Salamander has been shunted to the right side of Wedge Devo, and Steve knows it. Wedge Devo tries to reposition itself, but in doing so, Salamander is completely freed and makes away like a herded goat!
Steve is after it, with no intention of letting that fearsome flywheel reach its potency anytime soon, but the intention becomes void as Salamander turns away from another Wedge Devo ramming fest, and Alex smiles as he sees his precious weaponry at a speed Steve clearly doesn€™t want. Salamander makes a 180 double-quick, as Wedge Devo moves in€¦and stops. Evidently, he has no wish to let the 22kg disc bite into him again, and so again tries the tactic of moving around the disc. Suffice to say it isn€™t working, as Salamander keeps him in check. The concentration on both roboteers€™ faces is surprising to say the least. Salamander moves backwards, possibly a feint, but Wedge Devo cuts a wide arc around him, and as Salamander turns towards Steve€™s machine, it arcs towards Salamander€™s right side and smacks into the wheel. It€™s unfortunate, however, as Salamander is able to turn before Wedge Devo can get around him!
CRASH!!!
Eurgh€¦what damage that is! The earlier hit had loosened Wedge Devo€™s right-side panel, and now this equally if not more devastating hit has sent the whole panel, skirt and all, free from the body of Wedge Devo and bound for an empty CPZ, which it clatters into! Wedge Devo is looking rather sluggish at this stage, but nonetheless it shoves into Salamander once again, right into the still disc, and starts pushing it towards Mr. Psycho€™s CPZ. Alex isn€™t too fond of having a terminal case of squashed wheel like in the did in the C&B1 grand final, but that€™s too bad, because Wedge Devo is already at the CPZ, and casually flicks Salamander into the house robot! Mr. Psycho brings down the hammer€¦hitting the bodywork and doing diddly to it. Instead, it rams Salamander along the wall. The Disc of Death is too high off the ground and Salamander is ducked under it, and Mr. Psycho backs off€¦but Wedge Devo moves in!
CRASH!!!
Wedge Devo rams Salamander, and tilts it under the disc, resulting in both discs meeting, but the stationary one seemed to survive the hit quite well, and now the hazard is stopped. Wedge Devo activates the flipper, sending Salamander over and onto the disc. An unwise decision as Wedge Devo€™s flipper is stuck open, trapped on Salamander€™s axle. Wedge Devo backs away, as he really can€™t get any purchase without a weapon, but it seems Salamander is pegged in there. Wedge Devo moves in for the kill€¦come on! FLIP! €¦it€™s good! Salamander is vaulted over the wall, and out of the running!
CEASE!
Salamander III€™s blood turns cold as the touch of death falls over him! Wedge Devolution advances to the Heat A Final!!
Now, who will meet the wedge fiend in the first heat final?
Round 2 Battle 2 Death Threat 0.2 vs. Do Or Die
Roboteers, stand by...
Booth #1: Daniel Bailey
Booth #2: Chezza
Our house robots for today are Scream and Die-Ro. Die-Ro, we have seen before, but Scream, nope. Scream is a long wedge which features the entire front wedge as a flipper, with double the power of Gravity, and a vertical disc at the back, powered by a LEM130. Itll make anyone Scream!

Its Death Threat out first, and Do Or Die mere seconds later. Both collide, and its clear that Do Or Die has the advantage, pushing Death Threat across the arena even with those tracks going. What Chezza failed to notice is that the claws of Death Threat have snuck around the plow and started to squeeze. Chezza keeps pouring on the power, though, and Death Threat is slammed into the arena wall. At that, however, there is an unexpected BANG, and Do Or Die immediately comes to a halt. What just happened to Do Or Die? Death Threat is pushing it back across the arena...and something falls out of Do Or Die, through one of the wheel holes...ITS THE REMOVABLE LINK!!! You know what that means...Do Or Die is completely dead. That earlier ram it performed, just completely took out the link, and killed the robot on its feet...er, wheels. And Danny knows hes won this now, as his robot shunts Do Or Die into the pit release button, which signals the dropping of the pit...and Death Threat moves towards the pit - BZZT! Death Threat is jolted by the kill saws! No damage, though, but its not like it matters. Death Threat shunts Do Or Die straight down the pit, and out of the competition, as Chezza shakes his head at what just went so wrong, and Danny punches the air in delight.
CEASE!
Do Or Die is the weakest link of this absurdly short contest, see ya. Death Threat 0.2 advances to the Heat A Final!!
Round 1 Salamander III and Do Or Die survived a long match where Axe to Fall shunted Grim Reaper down the pit before getting pitted himself. Wedge Devolution and Death Threat 0.2 went through when Wedge Devo flipped Topsy Turvy OOTA, and BIACS-LE got damaged almost beyond repair.
Round 2 Wedge Devolution, after numerous tries and taking quite a bit of a beating, successfully flipped Salamander III OOTA. Death Threat 0.2 went through after Do Or Die foolishly knocked out its own failsafe.
Heat A Final
Wedge Devolution vs. Death Threat 0.2
Tactics, predictions, comments, and thoughts upper-class peoples.
I must say, well done Danny for reaching this point, congrats, as Death Threat has beaten some great robots like BIACS-LE and Do or Die to get here. As for the match, it could go either way, but Ill go for the surprise and say Daeth Threat to pit Wedge after being tossed around for a while.
I actually think this one could go either way, but Ill go with Wedge Devo to get Death Threat OOTA.
As for the next heat, which I am writing, I have the first round melees done but I dont think I can get the rest of the battles done before I go away on Sunday, so there may be a reshuffling of the heat order.
I have new tactics for Heat... cant remember, but Martijn is writing it:
Systematic Shockervs. Dreadnaut vs. Dreamcatcher vs. Sheer Hell
Instead of using the wedge as I previously planned to I am using my forks, as they will possibly be long enough to overturn Dreamcatcher, which has no srimech. Once thats done I am mostly likely through with Sheer Hell...
The first spot of the series semi-finals is up for grabs! Now we will determine who will snatch it from the other€™s sight!
Heat A Final Wedge Devolution vs. Death Threat 0.2
Roboteers, stand by€¦
Booth #1: Steven McGregor
Booth #2: Daniel Bailey
In the arena, for the house robots, we have Golden Lotus, the 500kg spinning flower of doom, and Charon, the lifter, clawer, drummer€¦tolling the bell for those who have fallen.

1€¦ Activate!!!
Straight off the mark it€™s Wedge Devo, on the attack, not fearing a frontal assault at all and is immediately under the front claws of Death Threat - wa-hey! How about that! A little bit of gymnastics from Death Threat as Wedge Devo zooms right under him sending Danny€™s bot into extreme airtime mode€¦and with a WHUMP, down comes Danny€™s bot, but it€™s barely begun to even move again when Wedge Devo attacks the rear, almost instantly! No flip, but it€™s carrying Death Threat towards the arena wall€¦but€¦no. Didn€™t think so€¦but it€™s stacked - or it was. A flick towards the wall sends Death Threat against it€¦not over, but resting on its claws for just a second before sliding down. Wedge Devo rushes in to attack once more, but Death Threat finally gets the chance to escape and does so.
A fuming Steve directs his robot straight after Death Threat straight away, confident that a constant wedge attack will keep Death Threat on the ropes. And indeed that seems to be the case. Danny starts sweating, as Death Threat is caught up and flicked again, this time so that the claws face Wedge Devo. They close, but too soon, and Wedge Devo moves in again. Unfortunately it€™s not a centered attack and Death Threat falls off the side of the wedge. Not too much of a problem for Steve as Wedge Devo makes another turn and another flip, sending Death Threat tumbling every which way across the arena floor. Wedge Devo chases after it again, the clear winner of the fight so far.
Death Threat makes a sudden turn, but it doesn€™t do much other than give Wedge Devo a different area of attacking. It is almost like the skirts on Death Threat don€™t exist to Steve, Wedge Devo sliding under them every time, and this time as well as Death Threat is tossed against the arena wall. It slides off due to the side spikes, but can€™t get away and Wedge Devo moves it diagonally along the wall, flipping it again. It slides across the wall and into an empty CPZ, but he gets out of there before Charon or Golden Lotus can make a move€¦courtesy of one of the four flippers in the CPZs!!! It sends him flying past Wedge Devo and into the center of the arena. Wedge Devo immediately chases after it and rams it, sending it flying into the air with the sheer force.
Death Threat looks dazed, and rather sheepish, as it turns to try and get around to Wedge Devo€™s sides and/or to find some way of coming back into the fight, but Wedge Devo is impassive in his movements and flies straight into the side of Death Threat again, tossing it yet again and using that side spike as leverage to toss again. Death Threat still can€™t get away from these abusive flights of unfancy and is rammed straight into Charon€™s CPZ. Charon turns to give Death Threat some drum tasting, and it slams straight into that side spike on the left side€¦or whatever side it is!
CRASH!!!
Ripping it clean off and sending Death Threat over onto its€¦other end! It€™s hard to tell which way up Death Threat is now, after all that flipping. The fuming of Steve seems to have been forgotten, replaced by an expression of smug confidence, as Wedge Devo moves again to attack as Death Threat moves away from Charon, and tosses it again, and almost out! Oho! Death Threat has a chance to attack, but Wedge Devo backs off before Death Threat can have a go at the sides. It€™s really looking one-sided, and Steve is keen to finish the job. Death Threat is rammed again, goes flying overtop of the €˜Devo and turns to attack, only to find Wedge Devo attacking again! This time he doesn€™t go flying over Wedge, but is positioned beautifully on the flipper. Wedge Devo carries to the wall and€¦half-flips?
Death Threat thuds against the wall, but now we see something alarming: Wedge Devo€™s flipper has run out off power. It must have been all those flips, and I don€™t think Steve was being wise using up all that energy€¦truth is, has it worn Death Threat out as well? Wedge Devo moves in and pins Death Threat against the wall€¦and starts to move it towards of the Discs of Death, but Death Threat falls overtop of Wedge Devo€™s rear and lands with the claws facing away. Wedge Devo pushes backwards with the rear skirt and sloped backside, but here is where he is defeated by Death Threat€™s rear skirt, and the shaken clawbot now has gained an extra life as it pushes Wedge Devo towards the Disc of Death! Not all of the €˜Devo€™s wheels are touching the ground, only two€¦Steve tries to spin around to attack but no go!
CRASH!!!
The bottom of the tooth on that Disc of Death smacks into Wedge Devo€™s top and shears off a panel instantly, €˜Devo held in place by Death Threat, but also stopping the disc. Have the tabled turned? Wedge Devo pushes back, as Death Threat yields, but that wasn€™t a wise move. Wedge Devo spins around and buries the wedge again, flipperless but not powerless by a very long shot. Death Threat is taken to the wall and slammed against it ala Storm II, and bounces away across the arena floor, and here enters the Death Egg, spinning up from the center of the arena and making its presence known! Yep, half the match has gone by and the house robots are starting to feel restless, but they€™ll have to wait.
Death Threat turns around but is rammed again, with albeit less force than before but enough to carry Death Threat over the wedge and onto the rear of Wedge Devo, who backs Death Threat towards that Death Egg. Fortunately, Death Threat falls completely off before this can happen€¦and Wedge Devo has nowbeached his own rear skirt on Death Threat€™s side skirt! Danny€™s face flitters with shock before screwing up with intense concentration as Death Threat turns ever-so-slightly to try and grab the side of Wedge Devo€¦but it doesn€™t work, and Wedge Devo moves off and away. Furious, Death Threat pounds after him, only to get rammed again by another menacing charge by the €˜Devo and taken to the wall to get mashed against it.
The attack continues as Wedge Devo wedges Death Threat again and slams it past the pit release button, sending Death Threat away towards Golden Lotus€™ CPZ, and backs into the button, opening the pit on the other side of the arena. Death Threat backs away, but straight into Wedge Devo€™s path, who slams into it, sending it flying off the back of Wedge Devo€¦AND WEDGE DEVO SLAMS INTO GOLDEN LOTUS!
CRASH!!!
That didn€™t look good, a hit on Wedge Devo€™s front corner. A driving error from Steve results in the side panel that got knocked off by Salamander III last round, coming off again and settling down onto the flame pit. Also the front wedge isn€™t looking good. Wedge Devo backs off, still quick, but Death Threat has finally come in from behind, and started to clamp hold! Trapped between his opponent and a house robot, Wedge Devo goes for the 500kg spinner but Death Threat moves forwards as well, keeping him in check and the left-side claw has managed to pierce the chassis of Wedge Devo€™s exposed side! Oh dear, what damage has been done? Wedge Devo€™s wheels are still moving, but Death Threat has him pegged€¦Golden Lotus is spinning up again€¦Wedge Devo pushes and pulls, but the situation Steve wanted to avoid all along has unwittingly happened, and now the house robot is reached max speed. Death Threat feeds his baffled opponent to Golden Lotus.
CRASH!!!
Baffled and bashed-in, that is! The wedge is dented, but not so much compared to the flipper, which looks completely beaten in! And€¦and€¦Death Threat pulls the Wedge backwards, which doesn€™t seem to be resisting. In fact it doesn€™t seem to be doing much of anything anymore, but Death Threat, just to be completely sure, or maybe for all that ramming, decides that Wedge Devo should take a beating from our beloved Death Egg. Death Threat bullies him against it.
CRASH!!!
The other side panel is taken out, and the front wedge is almost off as well, confirming the belief that Wedge Devolution has forgone the quest for the FVAL trophy. Before the Refbot can even count out Wedge Devo, Danny has already booked his opponent a nice safe bed€¦in the pit. BOOM!
CEASE!
Wedge Devolution needs an evolution in higher CO2 capacity. Death Threat 0.2 advances to the Series Semi-Finals!
Joey McConnell, as noted above, has informed us that he will probably not be able to complete all his fights for the next heat.
Therefore, I have a proposition: we take the existing Heat B, which Joey is writing, and name it the new Heat O or P, while shunting the other heats in front, forward. Heat C would become Heat B, for example.
That sounds very good...and Id like to apologise to everyone for being a lazy (a work which our esteemed moderators will not allow me to use in a public forum)
I wasnt expecting that result, but well done to Danny on getting through.
