      • The Fighting Vapourbots Association League!

...its heat B. What, you were expecting a decent introduction?

WEAPONS SYNERGY UNLEASHED vs. SECRET vs. DIE-CERATOPS RE INVERTUS vs. MECANNIBAL

FROM MERTHYR TYDFIL, WEAPONS SYNERGY UNLEASHED!
One of the only clusterbots in the competition, these tricoloured invertible boxes can be equipped with interchangable weapon modules to suit each opponent, with a flipper, a set of jaws and a scoop being the choices for this match. You have to knock them all out to defeat them, but each part has thin titanium armour and can be easily pushed around before they overwhelm an opponent.

        FROM MANCHESTER, SECRET!
The lowest robot here at just ten centimetres high, Secret sports a front 100kj two toothed disc and four horsepower of drive, encased in a titanium box with side skirts to prevent flipper attacks. It can run and fight upside down, but that leaves the tyres open to axe and crusher attacks and with two wheel drive it could be vulnerable in a pushing match.

FROM ONEHOUSE IN SUFFOLK, DIE-CERATOPS RE-INVERTUS!
A large CO2 powered pneumatic flipper mounted on a four wheel drive chassis with added side bars to stop it being stranded, Die-Ceratops can run and flip inverted, but the rear wheels are exposed to ground level attacks and with its long and thin shape, it might find it difficult to position its weapon properly.

        FROM ORPINGTON, MECANNIBAL 3.0!
MeCannibal is the heaviest here with its shufflebot propulsion giving it a ten kilogram weight advantage, and most of this weight is concentrated into a metre wide ring spinner with Hardox and tool steel teeth, which is apparently lethal in a second. Its thick titanium armour protects it from most scrapes and it can run inverted, but the weaponry may almost be too powerful as even with shockproofin, it delivers a nasty shock to itself as well as the opponent.

        ROBOTEERS, STAND BY

Booth 1, left hand side: Dan Stickler and his clone army, Chezza
Booth 2, right hand side: Chris Mason, Paul Cuomo

For this fight, our house robots are the decadent and dangerous Golden Lotus, alongside the deadly looking Bane.

The discs of Secret and MeCannibal begin to spin up to speed as the Weapon Synergy boxes immediately go their seperate ways, and Red immediately heads towards Secret, which turns away, taking the impact from the side, before trying to turn the disc into its attacker, as Weapons Synergy White comes in and gets around the back of Secret, trying to steer the wagon train of robots in towards the arena wall while the disc on Secret continues to whirl away. Elsewhere, Die-Ceratops is moving cautiously into the fight, steering to avoid the charge of Weapons Synergy Blue, which backs off for another pass, while MeCannibal, skirt folding as it reaches full speed, begins to advance towards the action.
Die-Ceratops comes in, trying to see if it can find somewhere to get in on one of the two Weapon Synergy bots attacking Secret, as Red backs off and rams in again, pushing Secret in towards the arena walls...
CRASH! And Secrets spinning disc catches the left side wall and flings it backwards, brushing Red and White away and leaving a small scar in the Hardox side barriers. Disc now stopped, Chezza begins to drive Secret away, spinning the disc up once more...but drives straight into the attack vector of Die-Ceratops, and Chris floors his machines power and wedges underneath the bodywork of Secret, beneath the disc, pushing it towards one of the Discs Of Death. Meanwhile, MeCannibal is coming towards Weapon Synergy Blue, which spins and darts away from the oncoming shuffler, who angles instead towards the other two botlets, and some frantic pushing of controls goes on in the control booth between the three Daniels...but Paul Cuomos shuffler is quicker, and although they go in seperate directions, he turns and pursues White, just as the DieCeratops/Secret combo approaches the arena side walls...
FLIP! Die-Ceratops huge green jaws open, flicking Secret into the air as they belch CO2, the spinning disc assisting Secret in performing beautiful gyroscopic gymnastics in the air...and it lands on the fence, tilting inwards before falling down back into the arena, as Chezza mops his brow in relief, before his machines disc supports come down from the fence right on the Discs Of Doom, prompting a shower of bright white sparks as his robot bounces down to the arena floor, Weapons Synergy Red coming in to ram it head on, stopping the barely rotating front disc with its front scoop. White, meanwhile, is virtually cornered by MeCannibal now, in one of the corner patrol zones, and as the Golden Lotus approaches, MeCannibal surges forward, straight at the side of the clusterbot...
CRASH! White is thrown to the right hand side arena wall, a great gouge taken out of its three millimetre titanium side, althouh the innards of the robot seem unharmed, as it begins to reverse away, as inches away from it the Golden Lotus is spinning up, the gold and silver flashing from the arena lights as it rotates rapidly, and MeCannibal swoops in to try and prevent the little Weapons Synery machine from escaping, catching it again with the spinning ring and knocking it back towards the house robot, and a twitch from the botlet sends it into range of the blades...
CRASH! The Lotus makes contact, and Weapons Synergy White is sent flying up towards the centre of the arena in a shower of sparks, bouncing as it lands with bent pincers in the centre of the arena, and a piece of titanium comes away from the side on touchdown. Daniel tries his controls up in the booth, but something inside the botlet has obviously been knocked out by the impact, and he shakes his head as he realises hopes of qualifying have been reduced by a third.
MeCannibal now seeks to get back in on the action, as Die-Ceratops comes in on Secret again, which turns to face its opponent with the spinning disc, the blades of which are a blur from spinning at almost maximum speeds...but Die-Ceratops tries to slide the flipper front in underneath the weaponry...and...
CRASH! Die-Ceratops is thrown to one side in a shower of sparks, with the titanium on the front of the flipper looking buckled at one side, the bare metal showing through the scratched paint...but Secret has been thrown the other way as well, and is now almost trapped in against the housings for the side discs! Chezza tries his controls, and begins to budge Secret out of the hole it has ended up in, but Weapons Synergy Blue is in there before it can, ramming in with the flipping arm in underneath the side skirts of Secret, and activating it...the titanium flipping arm lacks power in the small robot, but it does throw Secret upwards, and it flips over onto the arena side walls, stranded and unable to move! Chris sees this from his booth, and takes the opportunity to move away from the whirling MeCannibal to come in, wedging the undamaged corner of the flipper under the side of the spinning disc robot, and at the other side of the arena Chezza mutters something to Daniel, retracting his transmitter aerial almost in anticipation of what is about to happen...
FLIP! Die-Ceratops huge jaws open, sending their owner rocking up in the air on its back wheels, while Secret tumbles end over end across the barrier and landing with a thud on the camera tracks, the first victim of this four way melee.
And then there were three, or four if you count the Weapons Synergy parts remaining, and MeCannibal has noted these also, Paul steering his shuffling ring spinner towards the recently used Blue as it tries to use its maneuvrability to escape, driving around the back of Die-Ceratops Re-Invertus, which turns to face MeCannibal. The shuffler pauses for a moment, wondering how to handle this, and then goes straight for Die-Ceratops, with the intention of taking it out to get at Weapons Synergy, and Chris drives his wedge flipper straight at his opponent in a head on collision...
CRASH! And something flew off one of the robots amidst the sparks from the collision, as Die-Ceratops clearly takes the worst of it, being flung away in an almost 360 degree arc, the titanium armour on the flipper nose now looking rather mangled. Chris reverses Die-Ceratops away from the scene, perhaps hoping to stay out of trouble and await the judges decision, while Weapons Synergy Red moves out of its way, driving down the arena towards MeCannibal, which doesnt appear to be as potent as it was before, the ring spinning slower and slower...Daniel has clearly noticed this as well, and drives Synergy at the shuffler...the clusterbot being pushed aside by the ring, but it has now slowed to as top, and there is clearly a problem with Paul Cuomos robot, hes holding the transmitter in the air but there is no movement of any sort from the two shuffling pads...and the Refbot comes in to have a closer look, possibly to signal the end of MeCannibals FVAL career, and...theres smoke! You can barely make it out, but there is dark, almost balck, smoke coming from the top armour of MeCannibal, and just a flicker of flame visible underneath the shuffling pads...obviously something in that last collision went wrong, it simply put out too much energy to be able to withstand repeated bashes, and the Refbot now begins to count it down...

In the background, Die-Ceratops is getting slower, the fight has been a long one, and it recieves a small nudge on the side from the Blue section of Daniels clusterbot, but both drivers clearly looking to stay out of trouble as the final few seconds of the battle are sounded for Pauls creation...

The red card is shown, and the Refbot begins to fire carbon dioxide at the defeated machine, now smoking rather badly, as Paul shakes his head up in the control booths, Chris looking relieved to have made it, while Daniel and Chezza sportingly exchange handshakes across the podium.

        CEASE

It was an action packed fight, but Secret is no longer hidden and MeCannibal will have to get used to the taste of barbecued robot. Weapons Synergy and Die-Ceratops Re-Invertus go through to round 2!

CATUS CATUS 8.1 vs. GE5ORCE vs. BLOODY MARY vs. KILLOTINE: EVO

        FROM KELVEDON, CATUS CATUS 8.1!
A Hardox armoured feline beast with a camshaft shuffling drive system that allows it a 50% extra weight advantage, Catus Catus runs on two Magmotors giving eighteen miles an hour top speeds and sports fromt hydraulic crushing jaws and a rear full pressure pneumatic flipping tail that doubles as a self righter.

        FROM BOURNE IN LINCOLNSHIRE, GE5ORCE!
Basically a Hardox and titanium wedge with two drive wheels and tank steering, the main weapon of Ge5orce is the huge launchpad 1000psi nitrogen flipper, which tosses the whole wedge over when flipping and allows it to throw opponents where it pleases, be that inside the arena or out.

        FROM WALES, BLOODY MARY!
Not the cocktail, this Bloody Mary has a compact four wheel drive chassis with an outer Titanium spinning ring giving out thirty five kilojoules of energy, coupled with a hard-hitting pneumatic rack and pinion tungsten tipped axe that runs at 160psi. The machine has three Magmotors driving its systems protected by a Hardox top plate.

        FROM SCOTLAND, KILLOTINE EVO!
This Jacobite jouster fights with an axe similar to Bloody Marys, run on rack and pinion pneumatics, but mated with a powerful Lynch motor drive at 36 volts to ram into opponents, with self righting capabilities and rounded semispheres to stop it being stranded on its side, with side skirts to prevent that actually happening in the first place.

Booth 2, right hand side: Liam Eliot, Steve McGregor

Our house robots in the arena are the ominously grasping Ex-a-Gore-ic Evo, coupled with the ferryman of doom Charon.

Bloody Mary is first away, the spinning ring around the outside beginning to reach speed as Catus Catus tears across the arena ahead of it, making a hairpin turn to face the Welsh machine again, and a knowing look is exchanged between Andy and Martyn up in the control pods, as Ge5orce comes in around the other side of Bloody Mary, which moves off to the right, only for Catus Catus to pursue it, ramming into the ring...
CRASH! Catus absorbs the shock somewhat, the camshafts giving good traction on the floor as the armour looks barely damaged, and its Bloody Mary that is flung across the arena, up towards the killsaws, which raise just as Ge5orce swoops in, getting the corner of the wedge neatly in underneath the six millimetre ground clearance of Bloody Mary, and...
FLIP! Bloody Mary swings her axe, but that just adds to her departure from the arena floor as the huge flipper of Ge5orce flicks it high forwards into the air, 100kgs of Liam Eliots creation moving in a smooth arc before clipping the arena barrier as it tumbles down over the other side like a penny, with Liam just looking on stunned as his machines barely 14 second long reign in the arena is over.
Killotine, which until now has just looked on without doing much, now makes its move, Steve aware that Ge5orce and Catus would seem to be working with each other for this fight, making him the prime target, and drives in between the two machines, turning once past them to charge at Catus Catus, which appears to be caught off guard by its opponent, and rams in underneath the shuffler, slamming the axe down as it does so and clipping the side pod of Catus, leaving a slight mark in the Hardox armouring, while powering forward all the time...Catus manages to get traction at the rear though, and reverses away from Killotine, which keeps going at full throttle in towards the pit release button, slamming it with some force.
Kayleigh...Is it too late to say Im sorry...and Kayleigh could we get it together again? I just cant go on preten-
The person in charge of the arena sound effects is summarily fired, and Killotine turns around by the arena wall and moves back towards Catus Catus in the bottom right hand corner as the pit begins to descend..Catus begins to come forward to meet the approaching Killotine, and the two machines slam into each other, neither wedge getting the advantage over the other, and both bouncing apart slightly. Ge5orce comes in, aiming the wedge at Killotine, which Steve notices, reversing Killotine out of Ge5orces path, firing the axe as it passes and clipping the wheel guard, sending a brief trail of sparks into the air as it takes a slight chunk out of the titanium, but there is no other visible damage to Ge5orce, which turns around, getting the flipper right underneath the corner of Killotines skirting, and...
FLIP! Killotine tumbles over in the air as Ge5orce flips its central wedge over, flicking it onto Catus, which rocks slightly as the Scottish axe-bot hits it in the side, before powering away as Killotines axe flicks back into its body as it self rights...Ge5orce has turned around again, though, and is in an almost perfect position to catch Killotine as it recovers, and does so, with Steve trying to reverse off the wedge This is cancelled out, however, as Andrew applies power and begins to push Killotine towards the arena walls, the axe coming down again and striking the flipper, but producing only sparks as the armour of Ge5orce is virtually unharmed, and the wall begins to loom closer, before the two machines hit it with speed, Killotine almost jolted off the wedge, and trying to drive off in anticipation of what is coming next, but moving a fraction of a second too late...
FLIP! Andy releases the gas again, tossing Killotine almost at a right angle along the arena wall, in mid air...Killotine comes down on top of the arena wall, hanging for a split second on the railings, before losing balance and crashing down...out of Steve McGregors view, as his machine comes to rest on the camera tracks, a wry smile spreading across his face as he shakes his head, retracting the transmitter aerial while across the podium Andy and Martyn exchange high fives, their teamwork paying off.

        CEASE

And its those two that go through, with the other two going out. I cant be bothered with another outro after accidentally deleting the better one...

And the second round lineup looks like this:

        Ge5orce vs. Weapons Synergy Unleashed
        Catus Catus 8.1 vs. Die-Ceratops Re-Inverus

                        Oh yeah, tactics, they help

Tactics: Geez... ummm... right, here goes...

All 3 parts to be fitted with the pneumatic jaws. Main aim is to sacrifice one or two parts of the machine in order for the whole thing to successfully win.

One part of the machine to act as a pest - basically annoy the heck out of Ge5orce by constantly bashing at the sides and rear (avoid the flipper!!!!). Whilst this is happening, another part will hit the pit release. As the pit descends, try and get one part of WS latched onto the back or sides of Ge5orce using the jaws. Once this happens, get the others to push both machines towards the pit, aiming to pit both Ge5orce and one section of WSU. By doing this, Ge5orce will be pitted and out of the competition whilst, due to the clusterbot ruling, WSU will be safe!

If this fails, get ready to catch WSU outside the arena.
