    The dewalts WILL heat up to very high temperatures ~ 70 - 80 degrees and more
    How well do you think the lipo's will cope being so close to the motors as they heat up? The battery's themselves will also generate some heat. I can imagine it getting quite toastie in there when the shell is in place, specially with 6wd, grippy tires and the extra pull from the magnets. Is there any cooling planned for the bot?

      Well the heat problem has an easy solution -

      Put an aerofoil on the spinning blade to throw all the hot air up vertically then heat sink the spinner & anything else you can.

      The added bonus is the aerofoil should create a down force, pushing the machine to the floor. Two added bonuses & not a single extra gram spent.

      What I'd like to know is: How do you plan to lift it from the arena floor after a match when there's an extremely powerful magnet holding it to the floor?

        looking nice

        call it davebot

        and i'd think the only way would be to use a crobar or something lol

          you could use an electromagnet

            I like your design concept of having the option of a decent pusher as well. Defo a winning concept! Its looking good, be interested to see what you come up with to support and drive the bar in that compact space.

              Try machining a correct aerofoil into a weapon... not going to be easy!

              as for cooling- ill see how hot the motors get before acting... the lipo wont get above room temperature as its the same lipo i use in 360 which pulls way more current and it doesn't get warm.

              Worst case scenario ill drill some holes in the armor above the motors to let heat out / let the blade blow over them.

              Thanks Sam- its something Ive got to think about myself now lol Ive got an idea in the bag though... after our phone conversation i decided to just bite the bullet and go for a 40mm bearing mounted above the blade.

              Removing it from the arena....

              It will still be easy to lift it, but ill probably use a small crowbar/ screwdriver the lever it off the floor then slide some wood/plastic underneath to act as a cradle... as im a bit worried about dropping the front blade on my finger (will be very sharp) and having it pulled down onto the floor by the magnet....chopping of my finger.

                Graeme Lumb has machined my blade, picking it up at barnsley;

                      If I ever build a robot I sure as hell don't want to face that thing it looks too good.

                        not that heavy, 2.1kg

                        Looking at weights i think im going to have to have two shells... one made from hardox for when i want to run as a rammer and one made from titanium for when i run with the disc weapon.

                          First test drive, didnt get to full throttle as lipo wasnt secured lol ;

                              540's looking good dude, its gonna have rapid acceleration when you've got the magnets in!
                              Looks like Mark has done grand job machining the bar. I like the care thats been taken chamfering the edges even round the middle section. I take it you have a decent 45deg chamfering cutter Mark? I had to set up the bridgeport head at 45 and use a normal end mill to chamfer the bar of NST, took a while setting it up 4 times.

                              Lol, thats at least the second time you've launched a lipo out of a robot in testing.... remember it happening with 360 too.
