If we are qualifying on the friday when will we find out if we have made it through? I know I am being very optimistic here given it's my first event but as my dad is saying plan for the worst I thought I would ask.

(Note he means worst as he cant watch the F1 live )

You'll find out for definite after the Saturday qualifiers

But you can get a good idea before that. Generally, ten and above you will get through, seven and below you most probably will not. I'd say around eight and nine is the grey area, going on last years scores.

If you've not won 2 qualifiers by yourself - you're not through.

Sounds harsh but that's generally what happens. Harder than it sounds.

Does only 1 bot go through in the qualifiers or 2?

You do know the qualifiers are a league system right?
10 highest scoring bots from the league go through.
You could win 1 of your qualifiers & come second in the other 2 and still not progress.
Qualifying round - impossible to lose but improbable to win.

So to have the best chance you would need to win all 3 fights utterly, 6 KO's (2 in each fight) But we all know that anything can happen  All is fair in love and robochallenge! (I think that is the saying anyway)

                      2011:
                      Drumroll v NST - didn't win = 2 points
                      Drumroll v Cyberon v Stagefright - lost = 1 point
                      Drumroll v Heatwave v Asgard - 2nd = 2 points

                      Total: 5 points

                      2012:
                      Carcinus v Satanix v Beauty 3
                      Carcinus v Chuck
                      Carcinus v 4 4 Toon

If Carcinus loses to all its opponents, it'll still finish on the same number of points for doing sweet FA as Drumroll did last year. I love the occasional craziness of the league

That aside, I think it's one of the best qualifying setups for a championship event. Even if you fail to progress, you still get a minimum of three battles and umpteen whiteboards, which makes the trip much more worthwhile.

That would be the best case scenario, yeah. In all the previous years, there have usually been two or three robots going into the knockout stages with 12 points.
But if you don't get three full knockouts, it's not the end of the world.

At the 2010 championships, there were five robots tied on 8 points and only three spaces left in the top-ten. When this happens, the five robots go into a mele and the last three bots standing take the last three top-ten places. So if you have one KO fight, one judges' win and a loss, there's still a possibility of progression.

EDIT: Jonno, yeah Carcinus is mine. It's the crab-like robot with the claws, dunno if you've seen it about before. It's only got one opponent in two of its fights because the sign-ups filled up extremely quickly and there were more robots than planned that signed up before James and Grant could close it. So one fight in each Friday qualifier was always only going to have two robots in it. Luck of the draw I guess that Carcinus got pulled out the hat for two of those battles.

there are a couple of fights with just 2 robots due to the amount of bots.

beauty2 holds the most number of wins but also in 2010 after being double uk champ came dead last with only 1 point killed beyound repair after 10 seconds as well, it will be back

I'm not gonna lie, I think 90% of the roboteering population drew some sort of sadistic pleasure from that moment
