I'm honestly not quite sure what to do here, other than aim for the sides/corners, flip it all over the shop and try not to run out of gas before Andy does. Ge5orce may be more manoueverable but I'm fairly certain my lower frame and 4WD will make me a bit more effective at getting underneath. Flip, pit or feed to hazards ASAP and save as much juice as I can to make this go all the way.

I'll try and think of a Best Fight nom soon, Kody, but to be quite frank, damn near all of them have been awesome thus far. Yay, you!

From Shrewsbury in Shropshire, 4th seed...Ge5orce!

C&B1: Didn't compete.
C&B2: Didn't compete.
C&B3: Reached the second round of the semis, only to fall to Disco 5, the current reigning champion.

From Glasgow, Scotland, 10th seed...Wedge Devolution!

C&B1: Shocked out in Round 2 when, after flipping over the house robots, Terrorhurtz managed to outlast it and beat it in a judges decision.
C&B2: Went a step further but again got beaten in a judges decision, this time by semi-finalist Axeon 3.0.
C&B3: (seeded 19th) Another step above its previous foothold, however this time it lost by a pitting, courtesy of Paralyzation 2.

In for the house robots there are Sgt. Bash with the flamethrower and vertical pincer...and Damocles with the drums on every side!

Roaring to life are the makings of a true flipper frenzy, and it's comprised of these two mechanical maelstroms! ( ) Off to the faster start is Wedge Devolution, but his aim is the same as his enemy-in-arms; get under the sides! However, it's proving rather tricky for either to break through with this, as each one can turn directly on a dime! And evidently it comes down to control, as Ge5orce slips up a bit! The 10th seed pounces, but Ge5orce is no slouch and backs out of trouble. Wedge Devolution turns immediately though, and we're back to the first square on the board. Now they circle each other again, like two frenzied great white sharks in the Atlantic...only it's each other their teeth will carve into! Wedge Devolution stops suddenly, and tries to take advantage of its seemingly greater control. Ge5orce turns straight into the front corner, and what results is Ge5orce getting straight under the side skirt from an odd angle, but Wedge Devolution sneaks under one of the wheelpods at the same time! Just as Ge5orce gets one of the corners of its flipper under the actual side of the 10th seed, both of them activate their flippers simultaneously!

The end occurrence is Wedge Devolution tipped high up onto one of its rear corners, then crashing onto its side semisphere and unbalancing onto its back, while Ge5orce does a perfect 360! 9.8 for the landing, Mr. J! Wedge Devolution has to self-right to keep fighting, and the landing points are...1.8! You've just righted yourself onto the flipper of Ge5orce! And the 4th seed is away to the wall...Steve fires the flipper of Wedge Devolution in a grand panic, hoping to upset Mr. J's travel plans, but this only serves to pop Wedge Devolution up and then back onto Ge5orce's flipper. And speaking of which, it activates just as quickly, catapulting the 10th seed up...and down and out!!! It's over! Wedge Devolution is out of the trophy running, and Ge5orce is through...through to the first Final Battle Team ??? have ever been in, in this series! But Andy is nowhere near content, and now slides over to the CPZ where Sgt. Bash is! The blazing Sergeant is trying to get under the flipper, but you've little chance with these low-to-the-ground wedges, Bash! Little chance! And Ge5orce chances a flip and over goes Bash! Noticing the advancing Damocles, Andy gets under and around Bash, now with the house robot pointed at his comrade! But the house robots are spared, because...

CEASE!

Steven's creation undergoes a disastrous Wedge of a Devolution, but don't fret - the 3rd place playoffs are in sight!

Mobile Failure vs. Ge5orce

My tactics here will be very similar to the ones I used in the last battle against Wedge Devolution. Again, my two-wheel drive will give me a manoeuvrability advantage against Mobile Failure's four-wheel drive. This means that I can get into attacks easily and also avoid Mobile Failure's axe - obviously, axe weapons have a limited range of attack, so I will try to avoid the business end whenever possible. Although if Mobile Failure manages to catch me with the axe, I am confident that my armour will stand up to it just fine. Like I did against Wedge Devolution, the aim will be to get under Mobile Failure's skirts using the power and leverage behind my wedge. Mobile Failure is a big robot, so I will have plenty to aim at if I can get to the sides or round the back. Once under, I can push it around and try to get it out of the arena.

In my opinion, I think Mobile Failure vs. SHA2 played more like a final than a final eliminator, therefore I give it the vote for that.

House robots: Asterix Anarchius, King Leer!

And...I daresay!!! Immediately, our competitors have gone after the house robots!!! Was this...planned?! And it begins with both of them zooming in on poor old Asterix...Wedge Devolution tosses him over immediately. And poor Asterix is on his side after a devastating...270, I think. Obviously we're going to need King Leer to even things out! He...slowly trundles along, as the C&B2 champion goes straight for him! ...and a predictable display, as the massive drum is overshadowed by an even more massive defense, the spinning dervish smacking the front of King Leer and deflecting away with no damage done at all! Down come the flailing crescents, but they aren't doing much to SHA2...that, and they're completely missing! Apparently Martijn's spinner fits right between the space where they strike, now isn't that something! But there's something else...the sheer power of King Leer is forcing SHA2 all the way across the arena. The tracks don't help you if you can't push back, Marti m'boy! And before our Dutch friend can even begin to twist out of there, the mighty behemoth slams the drumbot straight into the arena wall, and pins him! But still...the flailing crescents are rather ineffective, there is very little evidence of damage to SHA2's titanium armour. And meanwhile, Wedge Devolution has flung Asterix over the arena wall...this is rather a common occurence, really. AH!!! The Watcher is fighting! He has crashed into the rear of Wedge Devolution! Go on, ref!! Sort him out! Ah...but not quite under the skirt! Steve does not like this at all, I can tell you, and Wedge - ah! He twisted round too quickly...so Watcher got under the side skirt instead, or rather Wedge Devo flung it over Watcher's front wedge...along with his entire side! Dear me! And...AAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Th... ...the refbot...is extinguishing Wedge Devolution for no reason at all...maybe to...perhaps to smother the final fires of the McGregor tartan, I'm not too sure...or their hopes. There's a lift...! And Wedge Devolution is on its back! Which a simple srimech will fix, and it does! But it only sends them back onto the referee's front there, and they are dumped into the pit release button! Oh dear! Can you imagine how humiliating it would be to be defeated by a referee? Surely nothing too pleasant at the very least! But the Watcher...can't...seem to take Wedge Devolution off the wall. He lifts the arm, and tries to turn and re-wedge...

but Wedge Devolution escapes the wall AND the referee! Now outraged at such humiliation, Steve swings Wedge Devolution about! The Watcher is quick to follow him but a nifty 180...and then ANOTHER sees the referee slide about exposing its side! Quickly now, Wedge Devolution is underneath...and while not managing to eject the referee, has perched him precarious upon the wall from a position he cannot right himself from! And...there's another flip!!! And for the first time, I think, the referee is out! Red cards don't help on that side of the fence, I daresay! Oh dear...Sheer Heart Attack has been mercilessly pounded by the big house robot in the meanwhile...but is damage really being caused? We won't have long to find out, because here comes Wedge Devolution with an attack on the side of King Leer! This draws the house robot's attention from the C&B2 champ, who...doesn't move. Understandable, seeing as he's still pinned in there, but as King Leer moves to attack Wedge Devolution insteadf, whose wedge can't quite get fully under the heavy housie, it's become evident that Sheer Heart Attack is not moving at all! But...with no refbot to count him out, the fight must go on! And so it does, as Wedge Devolution tries to flip King Leer, but utterly fails as King Leer is tipped a few inches and falls right back down! Steve isn't impressed by this act and so goes to a different strategy: the pit! He gets behind King Leer...with a flip, he tips the house robot up, and gets a bit more under...but now can't push! The weight of King Leer is forcing itself on Wedge Devolution's tires, and the massive friction is too much for Wedge Devolution to overcome! Steve instead activates the flipper again, but doing little more than popping the house robot up an inch. And this goes on for a little while...well, neither can move, can they? But there's no refbot, no?

CEASE!

A rather anticlimatic way to end the play-off. The Watcher could not count Sheer Heart Attack out, but because he was immobile first, and for longer than 30 seconds...he's out!

Well, it's time to hand out the awards for this tournament! But before I do, let me just say that deciding through all this high-caliber robots has put me in a right state! *eye twitch* I thoroughly thank everybody for entering; though you may not have won an award, you're all still tops in my book!

Right, with that mushy stuff out of the way, let's get to the awards!

Most Innovative Robot

There were quite a few here, startlingly. Joey McConnell's STAT, Leo van Miert's Holepunch 2.0 and Martijn Benschop's Under Pressure were good contenders here. But the real winner is Steven McGregor's Venus Fly Trap for a really unique weapon approach that was effective enough to defeat some serious competition land it in the Series Semi-Finals, well done!

Best Engineered Robot

This arena wasn't too bountiful, but there were still a few nice engineering marvels, such as Richard Southworth's M.O.R.D. 2, Leo van Miert's Holepunch 2.0, and Joey McConnell's Nidhogg^3. However, a different nominee for Most Innovative Robot gets this award. That robot is Joey McConnell's other robot, S.T.A.T., utilizing a simple static spike with a petrol drivetrain to quite convincingly defeat one of the greats in robot history, Killotine: EVO. Props.

Most Aggressive Robot

Plentiful indeed was this category, and this was hard to choose. Alex Holt's Achilles, Paul Cuomo's Nitro-Gene 5.0, Joey McConnell's STAT and even a spinner in Samuel Park's Paralyzation 2 were all good contenders. However this award has to go to the flipping sensation that is grand finalist Andrew Jackson's Ge5orce. While not having the most powerful drivetrain, he's always fighting for victory and not caring who's in his way, and he's flipped them all out! Just don't be overzealous, now!

Best Newcomer Robot

There were only a handful of newcomer robots here. Lian Eliot's Lockaw v3 and Leo van Miert's Holepunch 2.0 proved intimidating, but this can only really go to the only newcomer to progress to the semis and then to the finals', Tracy Farber's Mobile Failure, proving the new blood isn't dead just yet!

Too Cool For School Award

This award goes to the robot that has style, baby, both in the metal and when fighting. Tracy Farber's Bloody Frigid and Steven McGregor's Venus Fly Trap were impressive, and Alex Holt's Darkestar even more so, but the real winner is Joey McConnell's Gabriel IV. Some call it cute, some call it effective. To me, it just looks cool whether stationary, or kicking the tin out of other robots. FAB-U-LOUS, Mr. McConnell.

Mass Disctruction Award

To the *gulp* robot who wreaked the most havoc...o-oh dear, u-um...w-well, Richard S-Southworth's Ringwraith did some nice d-damage, a-and Martyn F-Forsyth's *69 m-moreso, b-but...for sheer h-house robot mayhem, t-the clear winner i-is... *GULP* Daniel Stickler's MacBeth! He t-totally managed to destroy both S-Sir Killalot and Mr. P-Psycho in his fight, despite losing that first round m-melee. W-well done, Mr. Stickler! ...meep. *runs for the hills*

Best Sportsman

Well obviously we need to acknowledge the most sporting of our contestants! And the clear winner, by a longshot, is Martijn Benschop! Loves his losses, almost as much as he loves his wins! Keep that trophy nice and shiny Mr. Sportsman!

Best Design

This was a toughie. There were numerous, numerous potentials here. Among the most notable were Tracy Farber's Mobile Failure, Joey McConnell's Gabriel IV, Andrew Jackson's Ge5orce, and Martijn Benschop's Sheer Heart Attack 2. But, with a somehow aging design, Steven McGregor's Wedge Devolution managed to spank the newcomers he met and hold his own against the numerous redesigns he encountered. I realize I am eating my own words for having suggested WD have a redesign some time ago, but Wedge Devo does combine the best of all worlds, so take a bow Mr. McGregor!

Best Fight

There were numerous votes, by PM and by posting on the thread. :P But the winner of the Best Battle is the Heat L Final, Wedge Devolution vs. Monsoon Season! A truly tough fight between two veteran flippers and the mindgame shenanigans that followed!

Thanking you muchly, Kody. I know I don't post as often as I should these days, but you can still craft a crazy-fun battle like nobody's business. I always love the CG pics you throw in as well. Wedge getting shunted by the Watcher did make me grin.
