  • Re: How could I Improve pt 2

what Im wondering about Mark, why are these bots unreliable? vapourbots are always considered to be build perfectly and flawless and I dont find anything in the stats that makes these bots extremely unreliable, so why make these bots seem weaker than they are by calling them unreliable?

also, do you mean the entire bar is in front of the wedge or rather in the wedge? the way I see it the wedge doesnt rly serve a purpose anymore if the bar is entirely in front of it

besides all though these bots seem like serious attempts, keep up the good work!

The bar weapon is in the wedge.

Thanks for your constructive criticism. Joey has also been helping me (Through PMs), and once again: here are my latest stats:

      Roveress Evo
      Weight: 100kg
Shape: Biohazard, with Growler's head at the front.

      Turning Circle: 0m
Weapon: The bottom Jaw Is fixed to the ground, and shaped like a wedge with Mute-style barbs on it. Once a robot is stuck on the wedge, the top Jaw, powered by a 2.2kg 1000psi Nitrogen tank, comes down with over 2 tonnes of force.
Srimech: A lifting arm, built into the back of the robot, powered by a Bosch drill motor.
      Strengths: Fast and maneuverable.
Weaknesses: The Srimech doesn't always work.

      Side Swipe 2
      Weight: 100kg

Srimech: The axe can easily self-right the robot.
      Strengths: Crushing Weapon.
Weaknesses: None that I can think of, yet.

EDIT: What about this new one?

      Darkwing 1.0
      Weight: 100kg
Shape: Tornado, you know, that basic rectangular wedged box.
Colour: Black, with DARKWING written on the top in red.
      Dimensions: 70cm x 40cm x 25cm
Drive: 2x 24v S28-400 Magmotors, powered by 4x NiCad battlepacks.
      Locomotion: 4 Omni-directional wheels.
      Speed: 20mph
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front due to Special weapon, 0mm at sides and back due to skirts. 4mm without skirts.
      Turning Circle: 0m
      Armor: 10mm Duralumin
Weapon: Now here's where it gets interesting. The robot has, at the front, 2 Tornado-like wedges put together. As in, there's one wedge on top with the inclined end facing the ground, and one wedge on the bottom, with the wedge in its normal position. The idea is: A flipper will drive in between the 2 wedges, try to flip Darkwing 1.0 over, and the resulting stress put on the flipper by the top wedge is so much, the flipper's rams will explode, rendering the flipper useless.
      Srimech: Invertible.
      Strengths: Invertible and quite maneuverable.
Weaknesses: Weapon is untested in combat.

Presenting the latest Gabriel version for your consideration
warning: this robot may contain large doses of ears

        Gabriel V

        DIMENSIONS: 110 x 80 x 25 cm
SHAPE: Elongated triangular pyramid, with a comparatively steep rear and shallow front...and large ears, which are explained below
COLOUR: See the pic, mostly yellow and black
DRIVE: 2 C40-300 Magmotors run at 32v (from 40 x 2.3ah A123 lithium ion cells giving 32v and 9.2ah in four packs), geared 10:1, driving two rear urethane rubber coated 2014 aluminium wheels. No castors, just runs on the nose cone.
        SPEED: 16mph
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0mm at the front due to the nose cone, which scrapes the floor, rising to 12mm at the rear underneath removable side and rear 5mm 7075 aluminium skirts.
CHASSIS: TIG welded 2mm wall 25mm stainless steel box section frame
ARMOUR: 4mm Hardox on both sides and the rear, mostly welded into one shell for extra strength. The base is 5mm 2014 aluminium (recessed into the chassis somewhat to protect from low mounted Spin Dash type weapons) and the front nose cone is 10mm hardened S7 tool steel.
WEAPONS: A front hinged full bottle pressure pneumatic flipper, constructed from 5mm stainless steel and fed from two 1.1kg CO2 tanks into an 80mm bore hydraulic ram, giving about 2.8 tonnes of lifting force.
There are two hardened S7 tool steel spikes located at the back of the nose cone as well, one either side, and these are brought into play by spinning the robot around, essentially making it double as a thwackbot.
SRIMECH: The flipper. The rear is at such an angle that stranding there is very difficult (and operating the flipper will unbalance it onto its back)
NOTES: Where possible, Gabriel V's internals have been shock mounted to prevent too much shock damage from spinners and ramming attacks.
The robot sports two removable triangular 'ears' at the back of each side, which are made of 15mm UHMWPE (supported by a bar of the chassis' box section) and designed to stop robots from going over Gabriel from the front and driving over the back and down.
THANKS TO: Martijn Benschop for the awesome renders, Kody Kunz, Andrew Jackson, and Aaron Knight for advice and constructive criticism.
STRENGTHS: Can hear the opposition coming from some distance away :P Well armoured, maneuvrable, powerful with an effective and fast weapon.
WEAKNESSES: Loud music, as it can damage the sensitive ears and remove its ability to hear opponents coming.

Please tell me if there's any huge gaping flaws in the design please

Well, I have another bot I'd like to have checked out:

            Sgt. Pepper
            Weight: 100kg
            Shape: Sgt. Bash
            Colour: Desert Camouflage
            Dimensions: 100cm x 55cm x 60cm
Drive: I know this is going to look stupid, but 1 of Shunt's cold fusion engines attached to 2 gearboxes via a chain.
Locomotion: 2 foam-filled wheels. The robot also runs off of the smoothed nose.
            Armour: 10mm Duralumin
            Speed: 16mph
Ground Clearance: 5mm at sides and back, 0mm at front due to nose scraping the floor.
            Turning Circle: 0m
Weapons: First, there's a katar-shaped rending spike at the front. Secondly, there is a Pussycat-style blade at the rear, powered by an S28-400 at 1000rpm. Finally, there is what appears to be a flamethrower at the top: Instead of flames, however, It shoots out sparks reminiscent of the parks coming out of Matilda in Series 1 and 2 of robot wars. This weapon is purely designed for fan enjoyment, and does no damage.
Srimech: Um... Uh... It doesn't have one.
Strengths: Good pushing power, and turns very quickly.
            Weakness: NO SRIMECH!!!

...if you knew it was going to look stupid, why the feck did you put it in the stats Mark? That is quite possibly the stupidest thing I have seen so far this year...and I've seen some of Andy's comments after a night of boozing...

Cold fusion engines do not exist. Shunt, as far as I am aware, ran two Bosch 750 motors at 24v and the 'cold fusion engines' were a fabrication of the marketing department at either the BBC or Mentorn...change it to something sensible and real please.

The spark generator would also not be allowed under current FRA rules I believe, it certainly wouldn't be allowed by me.

afaik cold fusion does excist, only in an insanely inefficient way, but it is still labelled as cold fusion afaik, I may be wrong though and its all incredibly complicated... long story short I wouldnt use this type of cold fusion on a robot Mark

do I understand correctly that this Sgt. Pepper is somewhat of an experimental robot Mark? nothing wrong with it if it is but if it isnt you're gonna want a srimech and no flamethrower... actually if it IS an actual flamethrower you may have to drop it or you're gonna be banned from several tourneys, unless it only LOOKS like a flamethrower. With srimech this bot wouldnt be terrible really, the weapons are somewhat ineffective but it has a good drive (whats the RPM of the blade?), not your average rambot, perhaps swap the 10 mm Duralumin for something Hardox?

Yes, I guess it is an experimental machine.

                      I've modified it once more:

                      Sgt. Pepper
                      Weight: 100kg
                      Shape: Sgt. Bash
                      Colour: Desert Camouflage
                      Dimensions: 100cm x 55cm x 60cm
                      Drive: 2 36v LEM-130s powered by 5x NiCad Battlepacks.
Locomotion: 2 foam-filled wheels, covered by the Hardox armor. The robot also runs off of the smoothed nose.
                      Armour: 4mm Hardox
                      Speed: 16mph
Ground Clearance: 5mm at sides and back, 0mm at front due to nose scraping the floor.
                      Turning Circle: 0m
Weapons: First, there's a katar-shaped rending spike at the front. Secondly, there is a Pussycat-style blade at the rear, powered by a 24v S28-400, the blade spins at 3000 rpm. Finally, there is what appears to be a flamethrower at the top, but it doesn't do anything except turn left and right. It is not a real flamethrower.
Srimech: Um... Uh... It doesn't have one.
Strengths: Good pushing power, and turns very quickly.
                      Weakness: NO SRIMECH!!!

I also have some old concepts I'd like to bring back:

                      Wishbone
                      Weight: 100kg
Shape: Barberous 2'n a Bit, including the little yellow wheel stabilizers(Although they're a different color).
Colour: Gold and Silver stripes across the drum, with black wheel stabilizers.
                      Dimensions: 20cm(30cm including the stabilizers) x 100cm x 20cm
Drive: 2 S28-400 Magmotors powered by 4x NiCad Battlepacks.
                      Locomotion: 2 solid rubber wheels
                      Armour: 4.5mm Titanium-Vanadium alloy
                      Speed: 19mph
                      Ground clearance: about 9mm
                      Turning Circle: 0m
Weapons: First there's a 24v S28-400 Magmotor turning the drum-like outer shell at 2500rpm clockwise. the impact should have enough force to flip a robot into the air about a meter. Also, the drum is divided into 2 parts due to a slot running down the entire middle of the drum. Sticking out from that slot is a 360 degree smacking mace attached to a solid Hardox arm, which won't do that much damage.
                      Srimech: Invertible
Strengths: The drum can flip robots. The mace might also do some thwacking damage. (Yeah right...)
Weaknesses: Somebody might complain of its resemblance to Kody Kunz's Laertes the 2nd.

                      Destructophobic
Shape: A long and wide wedge with a rounded back, reminiscent of Roger Plant's The Big Cheese)
Colour: Yellow, with Destructophobic written down the sides. The flipper is gold.
                      Dimensions: 110cm x 50cm x 15cm
Drive: 2 36v LEM-130 motors, powered by 7x NiCad Battlepacks
Locomotion: 2 solid aluminum wheels, with rubber tyres and Aluminum Boron Carbide hubs.
                      Armor: 3.5mm Hardox
                      Speed: 15mph
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front, 5mm at sides, and 7mm at back.
                      Turning Circle: 0m
Weapon: A rear-hinged flipper built into the wedge, powered by a 1.5kg Co2 tank specially made to use up excess space in the robot's frame. The flipper has a standard 150mm bore 70mm stroke ram powering the flipper.
Srimech: The Flipper can self-right the robot.
Strengths: Low to the ground, very maneuverable, average armor.
Weaknesses: Based on an outdated machine, might not work out.

                      Any problems with these?

um... maybe the fact that they're both complete clones of old Kody robots?

Mark you havent been back 2 minutes and you're already stealing...

Here's a question: Why? Both of the machines these are supposedly based on are outdated, have poor combat records, or both, so why mentioning the fact that these look like Kody Kunz-bots?

I am willing to admit however, that the two-sided slotted drum was inspired by Laertes: nothing more.

EDIT: Scratch that. I'll retire Destructophobic early. If Kody's original design didn't work out, then this one won't.

Mark, are you aware of the phrase intellectual property? Taking someone else's intellectual property and passing it off as your own is plagiarism.

And it is so unnecessary, getting your own stats together is not that hard.

I think it might be best to let Kody himself have a say in this...say if I were to want to design a vapourbot, that was four wheel drive with a tapered wedge on the front that had a spinning disc set into it, and for some unfathomable reason I wanted to call it The Grand Disillusion.
This is basically tantamount to developing Kody's idea, so it's only really fair to ask Kody for permission to clone (for lack of a better word ) his machine, since it is his intellectual property and he would be perfectly entitled to say No, Joey, I will not allow you to copy my robot or, should I go ahead and post it anyway, to say That is my original idea and I think you ought to change your machine so it's less like it, and I won't allow you to use the name.

This is all despite the fact that The Grand Disillusion has not seen combat in quite some time and has since been evolved into something rather different. It'd be the same situation if it wasn't Kody and it was me instead, and you came out with a flipping robot with a snooker theme called 147.

On a different note...are you really so devoid of ideas that you have to stoop to the level of stealing Kody's ideas to satisfy yourself? And do these stolen ideas appeal to you so much that it is necessary to add them to a team which seems to be becoming less and less about having a squad for tournaments, and more and more about having as many vapourbots as you can possibly claim to have designed/stolen?

Okay, I admit it... Destructophobic was an attempt to bring back one of Kody's oldest bots. It looked like a good idea, but not anymore. I guess we'll have to hear what Kody says when he gets back.

As for Wishbone, it is not a clone of Laertes.
