Mr Bede states that he does not not know of the exact task except that it requires the retrieval of several artifacts and the destruction of several other ones. Which artifacts and why are unknown to him. However, several of them will only be accessible by certain members of your party.
(I poke around in Mr Bedes mind just to check thats all he knows. I also, if my telepathic range can handle it, see what is of use in the inn and the shop, failing that, I go there and check it out :P)
As the Sucker probes the mind of Mr Bede the huge man gives the Sucker a wink.
Its usually polite to ask first, but as I have nothing to hide personally feel free. Although youll find that my employer has locked his own identity using his own more than formidable powers.
Sure enough, where there should be the identity of the employer there is a dark psionic scar, as if someone just tore the memory from Bedes skull and left just a notion of it in the shape. Quickly rifling through Bedes own memory you find out a bit more about him.
He is a killer. A very very prolific killer, a mercenary or assassin for whomever pays the highest. That said you note that he isnt usually one for making small talk before killing, so you are probably safe at the minute. A glance through suggests that he spends his winnings on further cybernetic and magical enhancements. He can absorb energy into his own system to power himself up, his flesh is far denser than that of a humans, being something comparable to solid oak. He would also appear to be immune to poisoning and disease as well as having cybernetic batteries that give him endurance far beyond a normal human, being able to run at full speed without stopping for a week or more. He also has some minor telekinetic abilities, not enough to pick up a person but enough to fling one of his knives massive distances with perfect avccuracy and swing it round to cut a number of targets. This guy probably is not one to mess with.
Mr Bede sighs... As you are being indecisive my employer did give me another option...
With that he mutters a few complex syllables, and suddenly the ground beneath them feels like it was suddenly become water... The entire group drops into this water that looks like earth... to find themselves in a study.
Infront of them is a man, relatively aged in appearance, as well as being long limbed and gangly. His face is chiselled in its form but proportioned quite differently to that of a human... his nose is long and hooked, and the hair of his eyebrows flicks out into an elaborate shape. Snowlark whispers that he looks like he could be an elven half-breed with some other humanoid. Their is an elegance to his movements that his form didnt suggest. His eyes are entirely white and his fingers are laden with rings, quite unelven in their numbers and gaudiness. Less gaudy though is the silken waistcoat he wears embroidered with decadent fabrics.
He smiles when he sees the new arrivals.
As, I see Mr Bede got bored with waiting. He is never one for patience.
Mr Bede, who is standing behind them gives a curt nod.
I shall be frank with you all, ladies and gentlemen. I need the existence of some beigns ended. And I need certain possessions of theirs to become mine, and I need it done by someone that they cant have prepared for. And no one is prepared for who a faller might be
These are evil beings, evil evil creatures who have taken hold of too much power. I cant let them keep it, theyll just abuse it and destroy everything around them. I must make the world safe!
He looks passionate in his conviction, and his lips tremble as if he has some personal investment in this and his eyes well with tears..
I need you to kill four monsters, there were two more but fortunately they have been dealt with in the mean time. The first I need to dispatch though is one of the old dark gods... He has the head of a silver spear lodged in him from an ancient war which grants him vast power....
If you agree I shall use my magics to teleport you to near him immediately if you wish...
(Hmm. Im all for being teleported, but I think considering what we know about the situation we should keep an open mind regarding who our friends and enemies are. I shall be anyway)
(Asking Alex on MSN, although I do find it odd that I have MSN inside an underground study, and with no computer, pr limbs to actuate the keyboard...wait...uh...using my...powers...of perception I feel that would be an unwise use of my probing powers. )
(Frank: I dont remember mentioning a war? Unless you mean the one thousands of years ago to destroy the lords?)
The man looks saddened for a moment at the question, and then nodds as if resigned to something.
Very well, I shall tell you my tale...
It basically amounts to a story of his young niece being killed in a rampage by one of these great powers. He reveals he only knows one of these creatures at a time, and he only needs the artifact it possesses to divine the location of the next.
This creature apparently dwells in the oldest forest on this planet, far to the north of even where you were before. It only appears at night, and so details of it are difficult to determine but it can be assumed that it is very large and very strong but probably not that intelligent.
Tarein will inquire if there are any details that are known about this creature; it could give us an better idea of what were about to fight, and give us a slight edge.
Also, shell ask if there is a person around this town whose expertise is in magic jewellery, though keeping quiet that we have a hoard of it stashed away.
we have been sat around here for far too long now and brutus thinks we should go and rumble. brutus fingers are getting twitchy and needs some action. and food
