Yeah after going along to the Rampaging Chariots event, we felt there was an opportunity to follow a similar vein and use robotics as a means of encouraging the up-and-coming generation to consider engineering and technology as a possible career path. Roaming Robots, Robo Challenge and Robots Live are already doing a great job down south but there's not as much coverage up here so we've opted to try and push it a bit more to those north of the border.
Our aim with the kit is to try and keep it as simple as possible but as close to the weight limit as possible (in its fullest configuration) as we've noticed that many people entering with kit robots tend to get pushed around easily due to being a few kilos underweight. I'm sure that doesn't discourage them too much but hopefully by taking the weight of our kits up closer to the limit, it can give them a chance to dictate a battle more.
Organising this side of robotics is of course new to us, and things won't go flying off the start line as we've both got full-time jobs and other commitments. But we hope to move at a steady pace and see how things go as we progress. We're certainly looking forward to it

Now for an update that PJ will be proud of
Scot-Bots attended this years UK Champs to test our new kit bots and during the course of the event we inherited Kaisers old chassis that Ceri no longer needed:
It's a bit far gone for Jamie to hang on his Robot Wall of Fame in his shed so I had a rummage through it and went to town on pulling out everything that I thought could be given a new life in another robot in the future with some pretty good results:
Managed to salvage a load of screws, couple of strips of Ali, UK Robotics motor mounts, locking bar, lifting forks, sharp edge protection and drill motor with welded on threaded rod and nut. The motor was locked up when I got it but 10mins of work and a quick clean at the Champs got it working again, i'm going to strip it down again and clean it fully/add some fresh grease but at least I know it works. This will now form the basis of the lifter mech that was originally planned for Cicatrix when it was originally designed 2/3 years ago, I probably won't use the lifter in competition but it will be good for the Scot-Bot events.

Right, week off from work beginning next friday, a good chance to catch up on my poor neglected robots after the workshop is now free from its commandeering for building purposes. Looking for advise on a number of things to put into my new robot.
1. I'm thinking Botbitz 85A ESCs, but has anyone successfully used them at 24v? I know they're rated at 24v but whether they're proven to last on fully charged 24v batteries is something i've been wondering about. If they're ok they'll be getting ordered.
2. What type of wheel setup do people suggest for the new Gimsons? Nut insert or the Technobots ones? Looking for some around 75mm. The design is somewhat flexible at the moment so suggestions welcomed.
3. Best way of controlling a solenoid valve, Servo and switch? Battleswitch? Something else? Have used both but would like to know what people think is best.
Hopefully by 2 weeks time i'll have something a bit more interesting to post

Also, before I buy and risk making a mess of it, can you confirm that this is the adapter i'd use to attach Banebots wheels to a GR02?

Closest thing I can see on the Technobots website is this:

In new money, the 1/2 bore is 12.7mm. The shaft of a GR02 is 12mm so that may be a bit too small; the adapter could rock a little, resulting in loosening grub screws and wheels falling off. Then again, it could be okay, could be worth buying them to try, although at £8.65 each it's not the cheapest might-not-work experiment.Comment
