    12-15 June 2008 - RoboGames - San Francisco

Team Storm will be attending RoboGames 2008 with Storm II - the tickets are booked and we€™re ready to go.

We have a number of sponsorship announcements to make in the coming weeks, however thanks to our International Shipping partner Davis Turner; Storm II will be flight cased and air-freighted to San Francisco, and the team will be flying out with the help of British Airways. The rest of the teams costs are being met using some of the funding that our other sponsors (to be announced shortly) have provided.

More details will be appearing on our website soon.

        Hi Jonno,
We will try to hit both events, mostly because we want to be loyal to the on going west coast events, and also because I hope some of the vetrans come out of hiding since the cameras went away...and play with the new breed of bots!!! I always like a chance to play with BB vets!

As to where it will be, BB will most likely happen at the close Mare Island Navel Base where the arena is stored about 20 or 30 minutes fron S.F.

((Ive now seriously condemed myself to all first and second round losss!!! Oh well...))

I believe that the two event wont hurt each other to much because few of the east coast builders that will come out to BB only, wouldnt go to RG. and the ones that will make RG will do both anyway. I know their are some that will choose one over the other, but that will happen anyway!

There is still to many egos and bad feeling in this sport still to this day...I just like to play in the arena...I dont care whos arena it is!!!
I dont think TV we hurt us in the long run because tv will bring more builders than live event. Well I mean they see it on tv, look it up on the net, come to a live event, and then build!
        Thats what we did!
So it might hurt this/or the first season, but it should grow the number of builders looking for a place to fight!

Good job Tim cant wait to see STORM II again,

I sure hope some of the flippers can make it...
and remember their wont be a megabyte there
(Ive tried to get him there but I dont think theyll make it out)
Just a couple of spinners to worry about

Good luck over there with TV and all the live events

As for BattleBots - it will be the 2nd week of November at Mare Island. The collegiate event will be shot for TV. The non-collegiate stuff wont be for TV.

FYI on US bots in general. I was looking at historical ranking of US bots, and in the 220s, the 3 highest ranking bots arent spinners - theyre lifters. So Uk builders shouldnt worry about spinners as much as you do.

            hi dave.
can i just say that the majority of uk bots really dont mind fighting spinners and are not afraid of your us spinners. with 2 posts telling us not to worry about them seems a like we are a bunch of robot wimps. we dont have many spinners over here simply because we dont have an arena to contain them. Envy and Thor would love the chance to come over but simply cant afford it this year. mabee will see you at uk champs? if so look forward to a drink.

I second all that Swanny said (specially the drink part ). I never back down from any fight, but there is no use going into an arena for me where I cant win by lack of pit.

Well Swan, when I was in Wales, I think just about every builder I talked to brought up spinners. You may not like it, but I never thought about it prior to my trip over there when people kept asking me about it...

Sorry Leo. No pit. Nice rail, though.

David, the only roboteers that are afraid of spinners (and i put those quotes in deliberately) are usually the ones that never fought against one. Once they find that it usually isnt too bad with the odd exception, the apprehention fades away. But since there is no arena to fight them in in the UK, those roboteers never face them so the apprehention lingers on.

The rail is of no use to me, not yet anyway.

What about Shrederator - thats an EVIL machine, but I read that it was beaten 16 times in the past, so it cant be that bad.

If you go onto YouTube, you can see a battle it had against Tekka Maki, where Shrederator lost! I was surprised.

A quick update from Team Storm on our trip to RoboGames and what the team is up to in general at the moment. Weve just signed a sponsorship deal with two heavyweight IT companies, VMWare and Computacenter.

This isnt just great news for Team Storm, its also great news for the sport as it shows that people are still interested and see our robots as something worth getting involved with. The funding that Team Storm has obtained has opened the doors to allow us to compete internationally, as well as putting the team in a unique position to use some of that funding to promote robots and roboteering.

As well as new sponsors weve also just updated the Team Storm website with loads of new content, as well as some old content (event reports going back to 2001 from the team). Theres details about the Team Storm Academy also on there which is all about our desire to put money back into the sport.

Were really looking forward to getting out to the US and showing what us Brits are made of!

Keep up to date with our blog, to be updated regularly from San Francisco on our website.

Thats good news Tim. I hope to see all there aswell, but without a robot.

Im still having some minor issues with booking the hotel and flight, but that should be solved tomorrow. Does anyone have an idea how i could enter the pits? or do i need to be signed in with a team?

Youll be coming home in a binbag then... Seriously, good luck and I think you have a really good chance at at least a podium finish.
