If using 100mm wheels, Id suggest going for a chassis height of 80mm if you want invertibility and a reasonable ground clearance. Why? Because the 100mm blue wheels are only really 100mm at the very centre of the tread width where the thin line runs round the middle of them as youll hopefully be able to see http://www.gimsonrobotics.com/shop_w...ert.html>here.

that ring around the outside of the wheel is whats known as flash. its just as the wheel is injection molded under high pressure a little ring of material escapes the mould and so is extra material. The diameter of 100mm will be to the out side of the wheel without the flash. just to give you an example aswell. Venom is still on his first set of wheels from 4 years ago. they were once 63mm diameter and they are around 61/62mm now and he is used on a weekly basis.

When I got my pair through Ewans shop, I put them against a 90mm high body panel, exactly in the middle and the ground clearance out either side was less than the 5mm I expected. So I measured the diameter of them and to me it seemed to be 100mm including the flash.

But then again, I could have made an error in the measurements - Ill check the next time I see the bot

They are still great wheels though, dont get me wrong. I hope I didnt come across as trying to say the wheels wear down quickly, just the little flash bit does because its only, like, a millimetre thick - the rest of the wheel will take a helluva lot to wear it down (my bits of flash are now part of my kitchen floor!)

Now need to buy two more 100mm wheels as part of my rebuilding plans

as you have probably gathered from my previous posts im looking to build like a rectangle box shaped frame. i will be using around 3800mm of box section just for frame. what size box would you suggest to keep the weight down but keep it strong. i was thinking like 20x20 box with a 2mm wall but its kinda weighty when u have a 4m length and ill only be using like 200-300mm less than the length i got, its the smallest lightest stuff i lying in the rack atm. what you think? 20x20x2 too heavy?

Hi Tom, your first pic is of CBF, one of my first robots. I dont have the chassis anymore, probably on Shane Lales wall of fame. What do you want to know? - 4WD, Gold Motors, bot packs (although did originally run lead acids), electronise speedos, welded steel chassis with armour consisting of bus shelter polycarb. And no I didnt steal it before you ask.

                    Hi Tom
Refrence my last post that is Dragon 2. As for cost got the polypro from work cost 0. The Ti I scrounged of team Scorpion the Hardox got of team Stratos Fear no cost. the 18v drill motors £12 pound each from Woolworths.
The second pic is of Electric Blue it uses 8mm Polycarb I think . Tatsu welded steel chassie 6mm Polypro for armour

if i was to do away with a steel chassis idea and go for 8mm or 10 mm polycarb like Electric Blue do you think it would be suitable for a featherweight rambot?

                            Hi Tom,

My robot whirlpool is very similar to your idea, the chassis is 10mm polycarb and so far has stood up quite well to the battering.

I use 4, 9.6v drills identical to the ones from gimson but I overvolt them to 14.4v.
Batteries- 2x 7.2 ,3700mAh Ni-Mh packs wired to give 14.4v.- We got these from model power for around £15 each.
Speed Controllers- Scorpion XL (xbots sell them)- great speed controller- £85
Radio Gear- we tried the cheap technobots 4ch set but had loads of problems with reception which is why we bought a spektrum.
Charger- X- Peak charger from model power £60 but does many different types of batteries.

                            Will
