            Heat H

We are nearly at the half-way house, so close that you can smell the bacon, but before we get there, we need to sort out the heat of doom, where all robots have been a semi finalist in another contest or another

            Round 1, Fight 1

Ram-Rod (19) vs. Cyclone Force 2 vs. Mute

From Oxford, and 19th seed, Ram-Rod. The ramming machine of Dave Weston is back, this time, like the series 8 version with a total of 8 spikes, and 20 horsepower from it€™s 4 LEM 130 motors. Will Ram-Rod ram to victory or will the kinda weakish and crash out?
In FAR 8: Beat Dervish Quattro in round 1, before smashing up Wind Chiller, then came against Gravity and suffered damage after landing several times.

From England, Cyclone Force 2. This invertible interchangeable 6 wheel drive robot with a common of LEM 130 motors. It has 3 weapons to choose from, but the polycarbonate armour can be broken up by crushers and discs as easy as cooking a pie. Will Cyclone Force 2 feel the force and create a cyclone? Or might it die out?
            In FAR 8: didn€™t enter

From England, Mute. Entered originally by Kody, but now driven by Medibot. This double wedge with a double flipper. It is mad, but when self-righting it can hop around like crazy before self-righting. It has the world€™s toughest armour, because Mute was designed for the 80 kg weight limit, so it has 20 kg of extra armour. Will Mute hop to the final or hop out of the arena?
In FAR 8: Out round 1 to Shredder Evo.

And now for the half-time pie report€¦

            €¦PIE!

All 3 robots are in the arena, with Cyclone Force wearing the crusher set-up, as it€™s the battle of the LEM 130 motor.

            3
            2
            1
            ACTIVE

Nothing between the acceleration from the robots, as all three shot off to attack each other. Dave turns Ram-Rod around and rams into Cyclone Force, which rams into Mute. The crusher comes in, but no damage is done to the tough armour. Mute fires it€™s flipper, but Cyclone Force 2 wasn€™t on the flipper, as all 3 robots are pushed into the hammer. The hammer comes down, hitting onto Cyclone Force 2, as Ram-Rod rams Cyclone Force 2 onto the flipper. One flip, sends Cyclone Force 2 over onto the top of Ram-Rod.

Cyclone Force 2 turns and opens the pit up, as Mute goes underneath Ram-Rod and flips Dave Weston€™s machine over onto it€™s back. Ram-Rod is invertible, so it doesn€™t matter if it is flipped. Cyclone Force 2 rams into the front end of Ram-Rod and starts to crush into the armour, but because of the strange sides, the ends of the arms are not getting a good grip, as everything turns into a power surge, the wheels are trying to get the torque onto the floor, as Mute slams underneath Ram-Rod and flips it over on top of Cyclone Force 2. Ram-Rod drives off, as Mute flips Cyclone Force 2 over once more.

Ram-Rod rams into Cyclone Force 2 and forces it backwards. Mute goes straight into Ram-Rod and flips Dave€™s machine over, as Cyclone Force 2 turns around, shaking Ram-Rod off, and ramming into it€™s side. Dave is trying to put down the power, but he isn€™t getting any traction going sideways. Mute slams underneath the rear end of Cyclone Force 2 and flips it up, as both Cyclone Force 2 and Ram-Rod crash down the pit.

            Cease

A double pitting, but who hit the floor first?

Result: The 19th seed is out, long live the 20th seed. Ram-Rod hits the floor of the pit first, as Cyclone Force 2 and Mute.

            Fight 2

Slammer 5 (14) vs. The Disc 5 vs. Razer

From England and 14th seed. Slammer 5. Entered by Alex, this interchangeable robot has an uncountable number of different set-ups including a disc, flipper, wedge, shield, and everything you can think off. It is a good machine, but against a crusher the armour isn€™t good, and the sides are open to attack. The acceleration is ok, but not the best in the world. It is invertible and can flip itself around.
In FAR 8: (As Slammer 3) Beat St Agro, Simply Swinging and May Tracks Evolutions before coming unstuck against Flaming Hell in round 4 and left the arena in a number of bits.

From England, and holder of the most annoying robot to write fights for award, The Disc 5. The world famous Disc has caused more upsets than everything. It is now a 6 wheel drive Axlebot! The retired Frank has spent some time designing this robot to kill. The disc is still in place ready to love and destroy and the main chassis spins to stop crushers crushing. However The Disc 5 isn€™t the fastest robot in the box, and it wastes a third of the power in turning mid-air. Is the Disc 5 the only robot that can climb stairs?
            In FAR 8: Didn€™t enter

From England, the robot that needs no introduction, Razer. Entered by Scott, double world champion, series 5 champions, and FAR 3 runner up. This is the extreme 2 version with the wheels, better speed, and acceleration.
            In FAR 8: Didn€™t enter

All the robots are in the arena, as Slammer is wearing the vertical disc.

            ACTIVE

The two disc weapons robots spin their weapons up to speed, as Scott is driving Razer, dodging the front end of Slammer 5, as the front wedge goes straight into play getting underneath the side and before Alex can do anything, the crusher comes into play, crushing though the 5mm aluminium like it was paper. The Disc 5 comes around to hit into the side of Razer, as Scott turns Alex€™s machine around into Frank€™s robot.

Bang, The Disc comes away from the attack, and the side panel of Slammer 5 is into the arena, as Frank tries to get around the sides of Slammer 5 to get at Razer. Alex is trying to everything to avoid getting caught, as it is taken towards the pit release. Scott doesn€™t want to show-boat, as both robots are dangerous. Frank is getting back into the match, as Razer let€™s go of Slammer 5 before the 30 second time limit, and Scott packs up and runs away from both robots which turn onto the twice world champion.

Razer is on the other side of the arena, as both The Disc 5 and Slammer 5 are coming in towards it, both at 10 mph. A dust cloud rolls across the arena, as Razer turns and gets away from The Disc 5. Scott knows he can take out either one of the then, but not at the same time, as Razer crosses the arena, the wheels turning to keep the front end pointing towards both robots, which turn and come onto the attack. The time is slowly ticking away, with 3 minutes left on the clock, as it is a game of dancing out there, Alex and Frank have a truce not to attack each other, but how long will it last?

Scott turns and crosses the arena again, and comes quickly onto the attack, heading towards Slammer 5, as Slammer 5 flips itself over, as The Disc 5 turns, as Razer slams into the front end, the disc is cutting mid-air, as the crusher comes down into the heart of Slammer 5 itself, with the weapon motor. Scott turns Slammer 5 around and hits it into The Disc 5, as some more damage is done, as the front disc of Slammer 5 starts to slow down. Razer turns and starts to push Slammer 5 backwards, the wheels are spinning to get some traction, but The Disc 5 is left in the background, unable to keep up with the flow of the fight, as Razer lifts up Slammer 5 with style, the invertible champion and semi finalist last year is being held over the pit like a rag doll.

The arm comes down, dropping the 14th seed down into the darkest of dark holes. The Disc 5 finally gets an attack, and hits Razer down into the pit as well.

            Cease

Result: It€™s a double seed knockout, as Slammer 5 is down in the pit and out. The Disc 5 and Razer, they go into round 2.

No, TD5 cant climb stairs. Too wide, and the wheels are too small. I think 101 and other tracked machines might be able to though :P

Against Mute, nothing fancy. Just drive straight at it with the weapon running full kilt. If I hit the flipper Ill probably break it, and if I hit the side and knock Mute over, then the fun really begins Not worried about the weapon on Mute. Itll push me away rather than flip me over.

                    Heat H, Round 2

                    Fight 1

                    Cyclone Force vs. Razer

After both seeds crashed out in round 1, which un-seeded machine will make it into the semi finals?

Chris has chosen to use the front disc, will this pay off?

                    3
                    2
                    1
                    ACTIVE

Scott presses the forward button on Razer, as Cyclone Force starts on it€™s run, getting up to speed in a quick method. Razer turns to keep the front weapon of Cyclone Force facing the front beak, no matter how fast you are, Razer€™s chassis is probably the best in the world, as Chris goes head first into the front beak. The arm starts to come down, as the disc starts to create sparks, and the arm is into the polycarbonate shell like it is made of paper.

The rear end is up, as Razer lifts Cyclone Force 2 up into the sky, the front disc isn€™t spinning any more, as the broken chain is limping outside the robot, as Scott lowers the rear tail and takes Cyclone Force 2 towards the arena hammer. The hammer comes down, once, twice, third, and a record 4 times in a row without breaking, why do you come here when you know it makes things hard for me? Razer releases Cyclone Force 2 down, as the top panel is badly damaged, as Chris makes little work of escaping away, the front disc is hanging loose, the first impact broke the chain. However look at the beak of Razer, there is a part ripped off the side, as the left hand side self-righting wing is being held up by the top wire only.

Cyclone Force 2 has opened the pit, and goes towards Razer, as Chris is trying to dodge the dodgy crusher and get around the sides, Scott turns Razer around, and both robot€™s fronts meet, and as predicted, Razer gets underneath Cyclone Force 2€™s front, and the arm comes down, crushing the front part with 6 tons of force, the polycarbonate cracks open like a nut shell, as Razer looks to be taking the fight home with him in a bag, as the arm starts to rise, lifting Cyclone Force 2 up in the air, as Scott drives towards the spike.

The spike fires, as Cyclone Force 2 is placed onto it€™s back, as the top panel comes away, as the wheels are spinning off the panel and gets away from Razer, which hoped that Cyclone Force 2 would have grounded out by now. Chris comes back onto the attack, and slams into Razer€™s front, and reversing before Scott can lower the arm. Chris dodges once, and again, as he manages to get around the side of Razer and starts to push it sideways. The power from the drive pulls Razer around, and under the sides of Cyclone Force 2, and the arm comes down, a pop is heard, as the arm comes up, with the disc motor on the end of the arm, as the disc of Cyclone Force is completely gone, with the gearing clogs left, and a hole around a bent chassis. Razer is looking happy with the motor, as Cyclone Force 2 comes smashing into the side and pushes the former world champion sideways.

The wheels on Razer are spinning, but not giving traction, as Razer is pushed down the pit. The smoke is rising, as Cyclone Force 2 turns around, Chris is happy that he is in the heat final, but at what cost?

                    CEASE

Razer, controlled the fight, but ended up in the pit, Cyclone Force is in the heat final, but with the top armour destroyed, the bottom armour with a hole and the front top chassis bent and no disc, Chris has his work cut out to fight.

                    Fight 2
                    The Disc 5 vs. Mute

Frank is smiling, as he sits in the control booth, Medibot is in the second control booth, worried on what on earth to do with The Disc.

                    3
                    2
                    1
                    ACTIVE

The Disc€™s disc spins up to speed, as the 6 wheels start to spin, 4 move The Disc, but the top 2 wheels are spinning in mid-air. Mute starts to drive towards The Disc 5, with no set game plan in place. Frank drives straight at Mute, as the disc hits into the top armour, causing pretty sparks, as Mute flips The Disc 5 over, the wheels rotate, and another flip, as The Disc 5 rolls around. Frank turns around and smashes into the side plate of Mute, flipping the flipping robot over.

Mute self-rights, this time it works, but The Disc 5 rams into the sides once more, flipping Mute against the arena wall, a quick self-right from Mute, clears it away from the wall, as The Disc 5 nearly hits the wall. Mute is away and opens the pit, as Frank turns around and gives chase. Mute is in control so far, with the greater speed and acceleration, but nothing can be done to The Disc 5, as Frank turns around and rams into the side of Mute once more, and again, as Mute goes into a barrel roll. The flipper self-rights, and Mute lands on it€™s back, another flip self-rights Mute.

The Disc 5 is taking the hits well for the old age, as Frank comes onto another attack, but Mute gets the front wedge underneath, as the disc hits the titanium armour and makes pretty sparks, as the wheel is flipped up, as The Disc 5 is completely inverted, Frank presses the switch and makes The Disc 5 more easy to control and slams into Mute€™s side once more, and for a 2nd time, and once more, as Mute€™s side is now looking very bent, as it does a 360 degree flip with the flipper, and again. The Disc 5 rams into Mute and Mute self-rights, landing pretty close to the arena wall as The Disc 5 drives into it, disc at full power.

Mute is on the fence itself, the front bent, as The Disc 5 rams into it once more, giving enough uplift to send the series 7 semi finalist down onto the camera tracks.

                    CEASE

Mute, attacked well, but in the end lands on the tracks on the way home. The Disc 5 moves one step closer to the first prize medal.

                    Coming up soon:

Personally Chris, Id suggest the disc set-up. If I hit you, youll be going over meaning your lifter will be useless and really limiting your options. With the disc you retain usefulness either way and have a chance of doing some damage in return.

For my tactics, Ill aim for the sides, and just do enough to break the poly up and imobilise him.

Generally. There are exceptions. Anyway, considering the damage would be impossible to fix, Chris would be looking at a replacement motor and drive chain which shouldnt take more than 5-10 minutes to install. If he wants I could always lend him a spare Lem 130 from The Disc:P
