Re: Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death 3

      My turn:

      Name: Flipping Hell
      Dimensions: 120cm x 80cm x 40cm
      Weight: 100kg
Shape: steep wedge front, elongated wedged tail (not used as a weapon)
Weapon: 50 Bar 2 pivot pneumatic flipper, 100mm bore, 180mm stroke ram powered by CO2, which generates a force to throw a 100kg robot 20ft up and 15ft across. The mechanism is a 4 bar flipper, but the rear arms sit much lower in the robot than those of Storm 2 and Biohazard. I will try and get a picture.
      Top speed: 15mph
      Transmission: just like Razer€™s
GC: 0 at the front, 2mm down the side, 4mm at the back end
      Turning Circle: 0cm
Armour: 6mm aluminium and steel alloy
Strengths: Can win with one weapon shot
Weakness: Limited Gas supply, 2 stage self right
Notes: 4 wheels, the rear two of which are Razer type, so the flipper is always facing its opponent.

The self righter: Look for a video on YouTube of Biohazard fighting Vlad in early RW, and yu will see what I mean by 2 stage self righting, but FH does it considerably quicker.

Re: Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death 3

Apocalypse II vs. CrOoKeD: Apocalypse II to get under CroOKeD's 2mm side and back ground clearance and OOTA it.

Mornington Crescent vs. Flipping Hell: I'm willing to say Mornington Crescent here. In Eye of the Robot... 2, I think, Flipping Hell broke down via shock damage to a drive chain. Same thing to happen here, I think.

Die-Reverta-Tops vs. Envy: Die-Reverta-Tops to OOTA the realie.

The Final Cut vs. Gabriel V: Gabriel V to use those ears to hear AJ's tactics and defeat it. :P

Lethal Weapon vs. Qwertyuiop: I'll go for Anthony to beat the relatively inexperienced Navaha.

Nitro-Gene 5.0 vs. Monsoon Season: Storm season is over, Monsoon...

Under Pressure vs. Symmetry: Symmetry to suffer the same fate it did in Liam's mini-tourney.

Minesweeper 1.1 vs. Next Stop Jupiter: Well, let's say this will possibly decide whether NSJ has a chance in VRW 4, shall we? He may have the flipper and the spinning rim, But I have the invertability and the tough armor. I think this time, I'll move to the side, and try to get under the side of the wedge extension, and utilize that 6mm ground clearance to my advantage. He probably won't be able to damage my plows, and he can't out-push me. Ram him around a bit, then press the pit release button and shove him down. If I feel that I can't push him in without suffering major damage/being pitted myself, I'll shove him into one of the house robots. Only after I feel he's been worn down to near-immobilization will I pit him.

The Final Cut vs. Gabriel V

First things first, the removable side and rear skirts will be removed prior to the fight as if they get removed during the fight, they'll count against me as damage

We're fairly evenly matched imo, I can't do much to it because of the shape but then he can't do much to me because of my angled armour, that and there's not a lot to grab onto. The ears are at risk but I'll try and maneuver to make as little contact between ear and disc as possible, and concentrate on getting beneath it at the sides and flipping it around repeatedly by getting in underneath and flipping again once it's flipped, hopefully before it can react.

If I get a clear opportunity to do so, ram into it with the rear end to stop the disc and carry on to shove it down the pit; otherwise just flip and dominate it till the judges are called in.

            ...in theory...

Best of luck Andy, should be a good fight

              Apocalypse II vs. CrOoKed

Well I will certainly have a huge manouevrability advantage, as CrOoKed has at most a 2mm ground clearance. So the plan is to use the superior speed to zip around to the rear or side, get under and get it stuck on the barbs, then take it to the pit or flip it out of the arena

              Good luck Jack

As for predictions I think Mornington Crescent, Envy, The Final Cut, Qwertyuiop, Nitro-Gene 5.0 , Under Pressure and Minesweeper 1.1 will proceed

Looks to be another cool minor Kody

CrOoKeD will get the opponent from the side and flip him OOTA or push him into hazards

Re: Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death 3

Tactics: Nitro-Gene only has 15 flips, and even at that rate it is unlikely that every single flip is going to as powerful as the first, reducing its chances of flipping Monsoon Season OOTA or even self righting effectively. Main tactic in this fight is to get Nitro Gene to waste as many of its flips as possible by flipping it upside down constantly, acting dogged and tenacious from the word go. Attack te corners of Nitro Gene where the skirts meet, breech them and flip Nitro Gene over. If possible, when Nitro Gene is upside down use my 15mph speeds and good torque to slam Nitro Gene into the arena walls or house robots (whichever is nearer/ more deadlier, LOL).

                  Good luck Paul

                    Mkay then...

Minesweeper, eh? Well, just avoid the front, and try to get undernearth the sides and back. If I'm near a wall, then I will be able to flip it OOTA. Just never give it any chances to attack, and also be very agressive. I will try to use the spinner when needed, as well... and don't forget, I am invertible too, so flipping it does virtually nothing.

                    Good luck, Mark

                      REVISED TACTICS:

Okay, both of our robots are invertible. That's fair. The downside for me is that I don't have an active weapon, which is okay. The upsides for me are tougher armor, 0 ground clearance at front and back due to my scoops, and better pushing ability. I will not give him a chance to get under either the sides, and will keep the front and back towards him at all times. I will still try to exploit the side and rear ground clearance, and use my pushing ability to ram him around and into the pit. Once again...

Good luck, Samuel. Even if you lose this fight, you'll still have a chance in VRW Series 4.

Re: Crash & Burn: Mini-Tournament of Death 3

After 5 days waiting for tactics, the tournament begins! Fasten your seatbelts!

The Crash & Burn Mini-Tournament of Death 3

                        ----

                        Eliminator 1
                        Apocalyse II vs. CrOoKeD

Team Welsh Warlords bring in the first robot of the tournament, armageddon style! Apocalypse II is a low sloped 4WD box, with a rounded rear, and one hell of an attitude with 9hp on tap and three sets of great tungsten barbs running down the robot from front to back. The real threat, however, is the 4-bar flipper, full pressure with 1.5kg of CO2 and a 120mm x 100mm ram running it. It's also heavily armoured with a 3.2mm monocoque of Hardox, strengthened with 5mm of ti/v alloy in certain areas...however, under the 5mm titanium skirts is a 8mm ground clearance that can be capitalized by some ramming wedges, and only 10 flips in the flipper means that the Apocalypse may never happen.

Jack Orr barges right in with his team's robot, CrOoKeD! Don't laugh at the weird capitalization, or you'll be flicked out by the CO2-powered flipper this box wedge brings to the table. It's armoured in 6mm Hardox at the front and 6mm titanum at the sides and rear, so it's a tough nut to crack, assuredly. It's got 2WD in the form of MagMotors, go-kart locomotion, and SLA batteries. Its 6mm mild steel chassis is also sturdy, protecting its insides, but the ground clearance around the sides and rear may not give this robot the best manoeuvrability, and with a speed of 20mph, it may prove hard to control as well. Thing is, can CrOoKeD straighten these things out in the warzone, or will the battles leave it warped?

                        Roboteers, stand by...

The house robots are King Leer and Asterix Anarchius. The Watcher is, as always, waiting to count out the competitor who expires first.

                        3...
                        2...
                        1...
                        ACTIVATE!

Mini-tournament, anyone? Like it or not, it's begun again, and it's Liam on the attack first, as Apocalypse swerves around the incoming charge of CrOoKeD and meets the side, almost lazily, as Liam grins! Jack tries to back off, but Liam's already found the side and has snuck under that tiny 2mm ground clearance...but that means CrOoKeD now has enough clearance to get the hell away, and it does so before Apocalypse can take advantage! Once away from Apocalypse, however, CrOoKeD is having a hard time turning. The Welsh robot moves around CrOoKeD easily, getting at the rear of the machine, but CrOoKeD moves straight away! It can go forwards and backwards quite well, but turning seems to be its weak point, and Liam chasing in from behind realizes this all too well, mashing CrOoKeD into the arena wall from the rear, and giving the box wedge a mighty toss! It's unfortunate that CrOoKeD was on an angle however, and Jack's robot flies into the air, in an almost linear trajectory, spinning diagonally, as it comes right back down onto Apocalypse with a rather noisy CRUNCH. It's stuck on the barbs of Apocalypse, and can't get away...and Liam is mightily chuffed by this. He knows he has the advantage, and goes for the pit release button. It's easily struck, but the shock sends CrOoKeD away...almost! CrOoKeD is still hanging off the end of Apocalypse, like a drunkard pinching onto his last pint! Liam, with a rather nasty smirk, backs all the way across the arena, straight towards the pit! But Liam's victory is denied, as with a flick of the flipping arm, CrOoKeD jolts himself off of Apocalypse and out of danger, as APOCALYSE NEARLY GOES DOWN THE PIT HIMSELF! Whoa, what a CLOSE call! Liam was almost tricked into that, but Mr. Low Box isn't going down there just yet.

CrOoKeD again tries to turn, but still its manoeuvrability is hindered by that too low ground clearance. This means that Apocalypse crashes into the side of CrOoKeD with the force of a rampaging rhinoceros, and slides under with hardly the effort of before! CrOoKeD can't even try to escape like last time, because the barbs have impeded his escape route, which happens to be Apocalypse's own front wedge! Liam doesn't waste any more time. Rather than toy around with his opponent using hazards and house robots, he goes straight to the arena wall and ejects CrOoKeD from the seat of his wedge! CrOoKeD takes flight, bounding over the arena wall like a hurdler, and smashes noisily into the plexiglass beyond the wall, before coming to rest directly onto the camera track below. As the house robots shift angrily, annoyed at their lack of fun this battle, Apocalypse II spins around with its arm raised, and Liam punches his fist into the air with a slight smile, having quickly taken Round 1.

                        CEASE!

Aww, Jack, are you feeling CrOoKeD? There's a curling iron for that.
Apocalypse II advances to Round 2!

                        ----

                          ROUND 1
                          Flipping Hell VS MORNINGTON CRESCENT

Avoid the flipper at all costs and use my rather nifty manoueverability to attack Flipping Hell's sides and batter it into submission. The two rings should hopefully be able to leave their mark on the alu/steel shell.
