Re: The Crash & Burn Tournament 4

Joey sez: I'm pretty sure I am right, I haven't heard anything about them using actuators on it before. If wrong, I stand corrected.

As for batteries...2 3600mah packs is 7.2ah, which is just about enough to keep a basic, 2wd heavyweight robot with no electric weapon going for about five minutes. Anything on top of that that is electrically powered will add to the drain, as will more wheels and other strange things.

A guide (accuracy not guaranteed, knocked up in five minutes from basic knowledge)

6-7ah (2 NiCad/NiMh packs) - will power a heavyweight with two standard (i.e. not starter or other strange devices) electric motors on two wheels and no other electrically powered components
9-12ah (3 NiCad/NiMh packs) - will power a heavyweight with two electric motors on four wheels, or a heavyweight with two electric motors on two wheels and an electrically powered weapon (except some spinners with large heavy discs)
12-16ah (4 NiCad/NiMh packs) - will power most heavyweights, up to four electric motors on four wheels or two motors on six or more wheels, and a large electrically powered weapon with one motor or hydraulic pump.
20ah (5 NiCad packs) - will power almost all heavyweights, including those with tracks, those with large amounts of wheels and motors, those with two or more motors on a spinning weapon (including Y-drives) or a combination of a hydraulic pump and another high current draw electric weapon.
24ah (6 NiCad packs) - needed if you're running some combination involving fully rubberised tracks and a large electric weapon or hydraulic pump. Very overkill but will ensure you're never short on power.
24ah+ - good starting point if you experiment with car starter motors for drive.

It's a bit general (it doesn't cover overvolting motors, although if you run things above their rated voltage you should add another pack to be sure) but it's worked for me so far (it's based on the same standards I use for working out battery power, although I eschew electrically powered spinners so I don't have that problem)

Andy sez: Thanks for the reserved place, Kody, and good to see you back. I'm working on some new otherweights and then I'll post my stats.

Re: The Crash & Burn Tournament 4

Well going by Joey's guide I should be fine with Maximum Genocide, its running 6 packs. As for LockJaw v3 I'll up it to 4 packs

Re: The Crash & Burn Tournament 4

*reserves a spot for Matty F*, if thats ok with Kody

*also enters Lethal Weapon, Shovearound 2.5, Novastorm, and Megabyte (http://strickenone.proboards99.com/inde ... kedvapours) for Tony* if that is also ok with Kody

*enters his own bots soon*, assuming, of course, thats okay with Kody

Re: The Crash & Burn Tournament 4

Thanks for waiting, Kody. Here's my junk:

                    TEAM BRAVEHEART:
                    1. Wedge Devolution
                    2. Killotine: EVO
                    3. Venus Fly Trap
                    4. Mornington Crescent (NEW)

                    AW. Wedge 3mm
                    FW. Rolling Pin FTW
                    LW. Minigig
MW. Killoteeny (May be swapped for new machine)
                    SHW. Revolver

                    STATS:
                    1. Wedge Devolution
SHAPE- low wedge with sloped rear
                    COLOUR- sleek and shiny silver
                    WEIGHT- about 100kg
                    DIMENSIONS- 90cm X 75cm X 30cm
                    SPEED- 16mph
                    TURNING CIRCLE- 0
GROUND CLEARANCE- 0mm at the front, 7mm for the rest of the robot. Fitted with Biohazard-style skirts on sides and rear, giving 0mm
                    ARMOUR- 4mm Hardox
                    WHEELS- inside robot, 4-wheel drive
                    POWER- 2 X LEM-130s; 2 x 12v 3amp NiCad packs, giving 36v @ 12amp
WEAPONS- As usual, the main weapon is a rear-hinged flipper. This is very similar to Chaos 2, except the blade at the bottom is bent ala Bigger Brother, allowing the flipper to have greater effect against bots with skirts or low centres of gravity. The flipper itself is powered by 2 X 80mm high pressure pneumatic rams, each running at 250psi. This should allow Wedge Devo to comfortably flip up to 1 tonne.
SRIMECH- The flipper can right the machine easily and the rear wedge should hopefully prevent a Chaos-style self-flip. Also, Wedge Devo is equipped with a grey semi-sphere on either side of robot to prevent it getting stuck on its side
NOTES- flashing red light on top of robot, flies Scotland flag
STRENGTHS- powerful flipper, fast, manoeuvrable, difficult to get underneath, tough armour, good traction
WEAKNESSES- could prove a bit tricky to control, limited CO2 (like all other flippers )
                    PIC- http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/7555 ... ionza6.png

                    2. Killotine: EVO
SHAPE- compact box-wedge ala Storm 2, rounded back
                    COLOUR- red
                    WEIGHT- about 100kg
                    DIMENSIONS- 100cm X 70cm X 35cm
                    SPEED- 16mph
                    TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm at the front with spatula, 10mm at sides and back. Skirts at sides and back produce 0mm.
                    ARMOUR- 3.25mm Hardox
                    WHEELS- inside robot, 4WD
                    POWER- 2 X LEM-130s; 2 x 12v 3amp NiCad packs, giving 36v @ 12amp
WEAPONS- The main weapon is the large pneumatic axe, composed of 3.5mm hardox. It is very similar to that of Killerhurtz and operates with a rack-and-pinion system like Terrorhurtz. Running on 160psi, the axe runs off an 80mm X 20mm ram and stores its gas in a 2kg main bottle and 1kg buffertank. If anything goes wrong with the axe, Killotine can use its great pushing power to simply ram its opponents to death.
SRIMECH- The axe. Even if it€™s already been fired while flipped, the axe can right itself ala Killerhurtz. Also, just like the original Killotine, the machine has a rounded back and a red semi-sphere on either side of robot to stop it getting beached.
NOTES- flies the Scotland flag, thanks to Tom, Aaron & AJ for helping with the design
STRENGTHS- Fast, dangerous weapon, good amount of traction, difficult to get under, quick srimech, nice and fast
WEAKNESSES- so-so turning, limited gas supply
                    PIC- http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/8806 ... evocw0.png

                    3. Venus Fly Trap (HW)
                    SHAPE- wedge with sloped rear
COLOUR- green with an ugly great mouth
                    WEIGHT- 100kg, I hope
                    DIMENSIONS- 110cm X 70cm X 30cm
                    SPEED- 12mph
                    TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
                    GROUND CLEARANCE- 8mm
                    ARMOUR- 4mm Hardox
                    MOVEMENT- four inner wheels
POWER- 2 x C40-500 MagMotors. These will run at 36v and produce approximately 12hp.
WEAPONS- a large electric lifting plate fitted with barbs ala Mute. The idea is that the plate slides under an opponent and the barbs catch the wheels. The plate then lifts up and clamps the opponent onto the wedge. The plate is powered by an S28-400 MagMotor geared 250:1 for smooth and quick movement. To ensure it won't tip over trying to lift an opponent, Venus is fitted with a pair of long static forks on the front, made from 4mm Hardox.
SRIMECH- a separate electric arm on the wedge. Powered by a separate S28-400 MagMotor geared 250:1 for quick and easy self-righting.
NOTES- flies Scotland flag, thanks to Martijn and AJ for helping with the design
STRENGTHS- good traction, tough shell, fairly manoueverable, unique weapon
WEAKNESSES- untested weapon, exposed ground clearance, potentially vulnerable spikes
                    PIC- http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/6827 ... astgb9.png

                    4. Mornington Crescent
                    SHAPE- flat cylinder
COLOUR- white, with the London Underground sign for Mornington Crescent on the top and bottom
                    WEIGHT- approx 100kg
                    DIMENSIONS- 100cm X 20cm
                    SPEED- 12mph
                    TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
                    GROUND CLEARANCE- 8mm
                    ARMOUR- 3.5mm Hardox
                    MOVEMENT- 4 x inner wheels
                    POWER- 2 x S28-400 Magmotors, running at 24v
WEAPONS- Mornington Crescent is armed with not one, but TWO outer spinning rings, one on top of the other. The top ring spins anticlockwise, while the bottom ring spins clockwise. Each ring has four teeth and weighs about 10kg. The rings are powered by an LEM-130 running at 36v each and can reach speeds of 1500rpm. The two rings spinning in alternate directions should also help the robot be easier to drive - theoretically, anyway.
                    SRIMECH- invertible
NOTES- flies Scotland flag, thanks to Joey and Andy for helping with stats
STRENGTHS- two spinners for the price of one, nippy, manoueverable, tough, more controlled than regular ring spinners
WEAKNESSES- wheels open to axes and crushers, unpredictable bouncing?
                    PIC- http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/5661/m ... escent.bmp

                    NAME- Wedge 3mm (AW)
SHAPE- low box with front wedge (very similar to Mute)
                    COLOUR- light grey
                    WEIGHT- about 150g
                    DIMENSIONS- 8cm X 5cm X 3cm
                    SPEED- 40cm per second
                    TURNING CIRCLE- 0
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm at the front, about 4mm at the sides and rear to aid manoeuvrability
ARMOUR- 1mm polycarbonate, with 2mm for the front wedge (just in case )
                    WHEELS- inside robot, 2 X 30mm wheels
                    POWER- a NiMh 4.8v battery with 9g HS-55 servos
WEAPONS- The main weapon is a broad flipping arm with Chaos 2-style front plate attached (bent at the end ala Bigger Brother to aid in slipping under other bots). The arm is top-hinged (ala Tsunami, Chaos 2 etc) and is powered by Lego pneumatics at 100psi.
The whole set-up weighs 36g, including the 15g ram, 3g pneumatic Lego switch, 15g aluminium pressure tank and 5g servo to activate the switch. This should be able to flip other Ants about 10cm up and about 15cm forward!
SRIMECH- flipper, rounded back, 1 little grey semi-sphere on either side of robot to prevent getting stuck on its side
NOTES- wee flashing red light on top of robot, flies Scotland flag, just a scaled-down version of Wedge 3 (in case you hadn€™t noticed! )
STRENGTHS- powerful flipper, tough armour, fast, manoeuvrable
WEAKNESSES- could be a bit tricky to control, lack of skirts, iffy traction
                    PIC- http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/2463/wedge3mmzy1.png

                    NAME- Rolling Pin FTW (FW)
                    SHAPE- cylinder ala Barberous
                    COLOUR- brown
                    WEIGHT- approx 13kg
                    DIMENSIONS- 30cm X 50cm X 20cm
                    SPEED- 15mph
                    TURNING CIRCLE- 0mm
                    GROUND CLEARANCE- 10mm
                    ARMOUR- 3mm titanium monocoque body
MOVEMENT- 2 x outer wheels with a rolling pin handle on each
POWER- 2 X 9.6v drill motors, running on 12v. The motors run on 4000Mah NiCad€™s, resulting in a 4amp battery
WEAPONS- Why, the robot itself. Rolling Pin FTW is armed with a full-body spinning drum, powered by a Speed 900 at 24v, with a second 4amp battery powering it. The drum can reach speeds of 2000rpm for the perfect balance of spin-up and slaughter.
                    SRIMECH- invertible
NOTES- flies Scotland flag, cheers to Joey for help
STRENGTHS- Fairly destructive, fast, manoueverable, well protected
WEAKNESSES- low pushing power, may prove tricky to control
                    PIC- http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/517/ ... ftwhs5.png

                    NAME- Minigig (LW)
                    SHAPE- low disc
COLOUR- bright yellow with Mauler-style face on top and bottom to show direction
                    WEIGHT- about 27kg. I hope.
                    DIMENSIONS- 60cm X 60cm X 25cm
                    SPEED- 15mph
                    TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
                    GROUND CLEARANCE- about 5mm
ARMOUR- 3.2mm hardox for the shell and 3 mil polycarbonate for the rest
                    WHEELS- inside robot, 2WD
POWER- uses 2 X 18v drill motors at 24v for the drive, uses 24v at 6amp of NiCads for the main power supply
WEAPONS- The main weapon is the 6kg rotating shell. Equipped with 9 little Pussycat-style teeth (3 along the top, 3 along the middle and 3 along the bottom) and powered by a LEMCO-130 at 24v, the spinner can reach speeds of up to 1800rpm in about 3 seconds...should be enough to gut a few of the poorly armoured.
SRIMECH- the robot is invertible and the blades prevent Whirly landing on his side
                    NOTES- flies the Scotland flag
STRENGTHS- powerful weapon, fast, very manoueverable, tough armour
WEAKNESSES- could prove vulnerable to flippers, tricky to control
                    PIC- http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/9251/minigigjg7.png

                    NAME- Killoteeny (MW)
SHAPE- compact box shape with a front Storm 2-style wedge and a rounded rear
                    COLOUR- red
                    WEIGHT- about 50kg
                    DIMENSIONS- 80cm X 60cm X 25cm
                    SPEED- about 16mph
                    TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
GROUND CLEARANCE- virtually 0mm at the front, 5mm at sides and back without skirts, 0mm at sides and back with skirts
                    ARMOUR- 5mm polycarbonate
                    WHEELS- inside robot, 4WD
                    POWER- 2 X S28-150s, running at 24v
WEAPONS- The main weapon is the large 180 degree pneumatic axe, very similar to that of Killerhurtz, which operates ala a rack-and-pinion system like Terrorhurtz. Running on 160psi, it really packs more than a punch and can very easily self-right the machine.
Also, if anything should happen to the axe, then the robot can use the low wedge and great pushing power to resort to a Tornado-style tactic - ram to death!
SRIMECH- The axe. Even if it€™s already been fired while flipped, the axe can right itself ala Killerhurtz, aided by a rounded back. Also, the machine has a rounded back and a red semi-sphere on either side of robot to stop it landing on its side.
                    NOTES- flies the Scotland flag
STRENGTHS- Fast, dangerous weapon, good amount of traction, difficult to get under, quick srimech, quite good armour
                    WEAKNESSES- so-so turning
                    PIC- http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/3106 ... enytj6.png

                    NAME- Revolver (SHW)
SHAPE- box wi' skirted sides and rear
COLOUR- painted like the infamous Yellow Submarine with portholes on the sides 'n' that, with red hinged skirting and the cover for the album Revolver pasted on the top
                    WEIGHT- under 145kg, hopefully
                    DIMENSIONS- 110cm X 75cm X 28cm
                    SPEED- 18mph
                    TURNING CIRCLE- 0m
GROUND CLEARANCE- 10mm all over without skirts, 0mm at sides 'n' rear with 'em
                    ARMOUR- 6.75mm monocoque Hardox. Booyah.
MOVEMENT- 4 inner wheels and a little caster on top/bottom at the front for balance
                    POWER- 2 x C40-500 MagMotors, running at 36v (should give about 12hp, I think)
WEAPONS- The main weapon here is a large horizontal spinning disc at the front resembling an LP record. This is powered by an LEM-130 motor at 36v and runs at around 2500rpm. The flywheel bears two Hardox teeth (curved ala Pussycat's), making it ideal for ripping into the other contestants. It could also charge at other competitors, get under them with the skirt and become a passive rammer should things start to get hairy.
                    SRIMECH- invertible
                    NOTES- flies the Scotland flag
STRENGTHS- powerful disc, fast, manoueverable, pushing power, invertible
WEAKNESSES- wheels exposed to overhead attacks, control could be an issue
                    PIC- http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/2271/revolverpq1.png

Re: The Crash & Burn Tournament 4

Dan would also like to enter!

                      Robot Name: Monsoon Season
                      Dimensions (L x W x H): 90cm x 80cm x 35cm
Shape: Box wedge, slanted sides and steep rear wedge.
Colour: The main body shell is black, with the flipper/ramming plate in bright green. The sides of the machine have skulls drawn on them in the same colour green as the flipper/ramming plate.
                      Weight: 110kg
                      Drive: 2 x LEM130s running at 36v, powered by a bunch of 36v NiCads.
                      Top Speed: Approx 15mph.
Tracks: This version of Monsoon has tracks instead of wheels, therefore allowing me to have an extra 10kg of weight in the machine. The tracks are made from Titanium/Vanadium alloy and have Vulcalon pads on every section of track in order to fully incorporate grip on the arena floor.
Armour: The baseplate is 5mm Titanium. The main body shell is constructed from a single piece of 30mm HDPE. The flipper/ramming plate is made from 4mm Hardox and covers the whole of the front of the machine.
Weaponry: At the front of the machine is a 4mm Hardox flipper/ramming plate, similar in style to Atomic from Series 7 of Robot Wars. The flipper/ramming plate is powered by 2 x 80mm bore 60mm stroke pneumatic rams, run off CO2 gas contained at 1000psi. The gas is held in 3 x 1.1kg CO2 gas canisters inside the robot, and should allow for plenty of flips in a battle (roughly 35 flips). The front of the machine can also be used as a ramming plate, allowing Monsoon Season to use its enormous pushing power as well as the ability to flip its opponents clean out of the arena.
                      Turning Circle: 0m
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front, 7mm at sides and back.
                      Srimech: Flipper.

Robot Name: Dervish: The l337 Generation
                      Dimensions (L x W x H): 40cm x 100cm x 40cm
Shape: Axlebot with triangular wheels guards€¦ look at the CAD. Unlike the CAD, the outsides of the wheel guards come to a slight point in the centre so the robot cannot rest on its side.
                      Weight: 100kg
Drive: 2 x S28-400 MagMotors running at 36v, powered by some 36v NiCad batteries.
                      Top Speed: 10mph
Wheels: 2 x custom made Titanium wheel hubs with Vulcalon tires for grip. The wheels are 8cm wide.
Armour: Each wheel guard is made from 4mm Hardox monocoque section. The beater is made from a single piece of Titanium 10cm thick.
Weapon: In the middle of the robot is a spinning beater made from a thick piece of Titanium. The beater is 40cm long and 10cm wide, with the centre of it being cut out, leaving a 10cm thick gap throughout the beater. In total the beater weighs roughly 22kgs. The beater is powered by a LEM130 lynch motor, geared appropriately to give a top speed of 1500RPM. Can you say, ouch?!
                      Turning Circle: 0m
Ground Clearance: 0mm when moving forwards due to the corners of the wheel guards going along the floor when it moves forward. 6mm when reversing.
                      Srimech: Invertible.

                      Robot Name: LowDown
                      Dimensions (L x W x H): The main body is 70cm x 40cm x 8cm
Shape: Invertible box with an angled < shaped back end and large bolts on the side to stop stranding.
Colour: The main shell is red, with the edges painted white. Lifting forks are red with white dots spray painted randomly over them.
Weight: Around 100kg, maybe a couple of kgs lighter.
Drive: 2 x S28-400 Magmotors running at 24v, powered by NiCads.
                      Top Speed: About 12mph.
Wheels: 6 x 10cm diameter wheels made from Titanium/Vanadium alloy and coated with Vulcalore. The robot has 3 wheels on each side, with the power going directly to the middle wheels. Each set of wheels is linked with a heavy duty rubber belt.
Armour: 4mm Hardox all over the machine bolted directly to the chassis (which is made from mild steel tubing) with thick Hardox bolts.
Weaponry: A pair of electronic lifting forks powered by 2 x S28-400 Magmotors running at 36v. The Mags are on a 75:1 reduction and can be used even when flipped. The Mags are powered by some 36v NiCad batteries. The forks are made from 6cm Hardox, are 20cm long and are cone-shaped, with the point facing the front.
                      Turning Circle: 0m
                      Ground Clearance: 1cm all over.
                      Srimech: Invertible.

                      Robot Name: Macbeth
                      Dimensions (L x W x H): 85cm x 75cm x 40cm
Shape: Invertible box, sides are slanted. The rear of the robot is completely vertical, like a normal box, but on the sides are two scooped blades that can be used when inverted.
Colour: Bright yellow with dark yellow trim.
                      Weight: 100kg
Drive: 2 x 750w Bosch motors running at 24v, powered by a bunch of 24v NiCad batteries.
Top Speed: 20mph, but stays at a conservative 14mph.
Wheels: 2 x 44cm diameter, 20cm wide Titanium/Vanadium alloy hubs, coated in Vulcalon for extra grip on the arena floor. Casters at the front of the machine (one on the top and one on the bottom) aid in manouverability and turning.
Armour: The whole robot covered in 2cm Polypropylene (light but incredibly strong), and according to Matweb weighs a total of 34kg. The rear scooped blades are made from 1cm thick Aluminium alloy.
Weaponry: At the front of the robot is a hefty spinning disc, 40cm in diameter and 3cm thick. It is made from Titanium and has 2 large Titanium blades attached to it, each weighing 5kg. In total the disc weighs 26kg. The weaponry is powered by a LEM130 Lynch motor at 36v geared down to the top speed of the blade is 1500RPM. The motor is powered by some 36v NiCads. The weapon is mounted differently compared to other horizontal spinners - it is placed on the underside of the robot so it can attack like an undercutter (like TopBot in RW).
                      Turning Circle: 0m
Ground Clearance: 4mm at front (protected by the spinner), 0mm at the back (due to the scooped blades) and 6mm at the sides.
                      Srimech: Invertible.

Mkay, so! There's one more spot in the main competiton, if anyone wants it, but the ones who were given reserved spots at the beginning of the tournament are only given another extra week to hold it; thus AJ, Martijn, Tracy, and Paul will find themselves out of a spot on April 2nd. Those who have reserved a spot after only have a week after that reserve post to get their bots in; thus, Aaron's got until the 26th, Matty and Alex M&W have got until the 28th, and Martyn and Richard have until the 29th. I'm being quite strict about places, and I'll e-mail people who haven't been paying attention to this thread (Tracy and Paul for example)

                        Thanks everybody!

Right, sorry bout that, Samuel...unfortunately, the forum still won't allow you to edit posts longer than 10-15 minutes so I can't fix that. It'll be fixed next post though.
