Re: The Crash & Burn Tournament 4
Let's keep rollin' on, folks.
Heat F
Fight 1
Venus Fly Trap (11) vs. *69
From Glasgow, Scotland, seeded number 11...Venus Fly Trap!
A rather vengeful 11th seed comes through our tournament's looking glass...
Melissa: So what are you planning to do with the opponent out there?
Steve: Clamp, lift, pit. Easy as one, two, three.
Melissa: Well with that kind of a plan, you can't fail.
Steve: Now now, don't give me undeserved confidence. I am always supposed to win when I believe that I won't.
Melissa: So you're a bit of a fake pessimist? :P
Steve: Pretty much. :P
Melissa: Blimey...
Sigh...it's a Hardox-armoured wedge with prongs and a lifting plate powered by an S28-400 MagMotor, designed to grapple opponents and bring them wherever it pleases...versatile, somewhat powerful, and nippy, but the weapon is rather exposed and so is the ground clearance...could we have a withered 11th seed on the horizon?
C&B1: Didn't compete.
C&B2: Didn't compete.
C&B3: Went down the pit in its Heat Final thanks to current champ Disco 5.
From Kelvedon...*69!
The phone's ringing...and somebody's answering with a vicious tendency!
Melissa: How's *69 doing?
Martyn: A little peeved since Gravity defeated him last series.
Melissa: And what's your plan here?
Martyn: Spin up...and hit things. That's basically all it does. :P
Melissa: Well then I will basically say...good luck to you.
Martyn: And I'll say...thanks, I guess.
It's a ring spinner shaped like a star...dear me. A LEM200 Lynch motor powers the ring where it reaches horrifying speeds, two LEM130s take the drive and Hardox armour covers the rest! Unfortunately it seems rather ill-adapted for pushing despite its power...could the stormy skies return to cloud this star's shine?
C&B1: Didn't compete.
C&B2: Smashed apart by Tengu VII in Round 2.
C&B3: Collapsed again in Round 2 when Gravity flipped it into the pit.
Roboteers, stand by...
House robots? Sorry, we don't currently have any...

...WERE YOU HONESTLY WILLING TO BELIEVE THAT? Ha!

And immediately!...the shell of *69 is up to speed! So Steve's hopes are misplaced because it IS quite dangerous right now! What a blur! In comes...Venus Fly Trap, but looking rather pensive, not wanting to risk damage...unfortunately that's what it seems to be in for! And now Martyn pours on the aggression, *69 is in pursuit and the seed backs off...but finds his predator faster than he is! Terrified, Venus Fly Trap heads for the middle of the arena, but gets hit by the arena saws! BZZT! Ah, but they throw him out of the path of *69, who has to stop and re-orient itself. That gives Steve enough time to head over to the pit release and slam it, opening the pit and whoooa-hey, watch out for that pit, Martyn! *69 skitters away from it, still on its spinning blowhard and Venus Fly Trap sees no other alternative; gathering courage, it plunges into the star's depths!
CRASH!!!
Whether it was bravery or just plain foolishness, it only looks to be foolishness at this point; one of the prongs is gone! Dislodged and lying bent ten feet behind its owner, it'll be of no use to Steve now! But it doesn't seem *69 is spinning...ah. There we are. It seems to take *69 a bit to time to recover, but Steve hasn't had time to react and now *69's got its weapon spinning and immediately back to full smashing power! Its weaponry diluted in usefulness somewhat, the 11th seed tries to take a defensive approach to this; dodging around the spinner, it heads to the middle of the arena, hiding behind the arena saws that it tripped over in the beginning of the fight. Martyn knows Steve's strategy but is unsure now if he can take it out like that. *69, after a moment's pause, cautiously moves around the saws to avoid them popping up and accidentally being struck, but Venus Fly Trap moves around again to put the saws between it and its fearsome opponent! Martyn curses, and so becomes a bit reckless; *69 charges over the saws!
CRASH!!!
And it seemed the right thing to do, as Venus Fly Trap's lifting plate is now warped much too out of shape to properly use now! *69 however isn't spinning again, and Venus Fly Trap moves in to try and get that plate under *69...but it's too bent to even slide under *69 now. What's more, *69 seems to be pushing back, and winning! Steve tries to gain some ground in the pusher contest, but finally concedes it when *69 slams it into the arena wall and holds it there for a few brief seconds...before Venus Fly Trap actually gets the plate under *69! Up it...goes? Up Venus Fly Trap goes! The left-side pivot is gone, of course, so that means Venus Fly Trap has lifted *69...and then itself, sideways! Realizing this isn't going to work at all, Steve lets *69 go, but flies after it. It's too bad however; *69 is again spinning back up, and is at full speed when Steve finally catches up to it...but that's because *69 stops retreating and starts aggressing!
CRASH!!!
And starts ripping panels off of Venus Fly Trap! The plate is gone! The supports are there but they're bent into pieces and the lifting plate's been decked into the side wall! With only one situated prong on the side of his wedge to help him, Steve is really fearing for his robot's safety now, as *69 begins spinning again! Venus Fly Trap is in there again, but again *69 is just too quick at escaping and then spinning up! With another brutal onslaught, *69 meets its wedgy opponent!
CRASH!!!
It meets the side of Venus Fly Trap's wedge and bends it inwards, sending itself flying across the arena in the process! Ahh...dear. Steve moves in again, but *69 has cornered itself in an empty CPZ where it landed, and it can't get way in time before the wounded seed wedges it and slams it into the wall! It's all Steve can do now however, as *69 has utterly demolished its weaponry! Renegade is nearing the patrol zone, and Venus Fly Trap quickly exits it before the house robot does appear! *69 tries to follow but finds its progress blocked as 215kg of mean, green Darkzlayerz squishes it against the arena wall, clamps in, and starts hammering on it! Venus Fly Trap waits outside the CPZ patiently, but it's only a couple of seconds before Renegade releases the star, which pushes past the wedge before it can attack and tries to get some room to start spinning. Venus Fly Trap isn't hearing any of it and pursues it, but *69, deftly evades another charge and finally gets to spinning up again! Steve is frantic and does a 180 almost instantly, but *69 is spinning way too fast to be stopped!
CRASH!!!
And it tears into the wedge itself this time, bending and carving it up! Both bots are flung across the grounds again, and the seed really looks beaten up here! *69 isn't spinning again, though, so Steve is after it! What a tenacious little robot! Martyn has his robot evade the charge...but where's the spinning action? A quizzical expression passes Martyn's face and we definitely know something's wrong here! *69 cannot spin up again, it looks like! Has it dished out its last meal of pain? Has it short-circuited? Whatever the case, his victory is slipping and Venus Fly Trap sees new life given to it! It flies into the baffled ring spinner and stuffs it into the wall, unable to get it towards the pit. *69 is stuck against the wedge and on the wall and the seed futilely tries to push it towards Count Bleck's CPZ, but desists after a few seconds.*69 gets away again, and Venus Fly Trap iss a bit too slow to catch it, but *69 still cannot spin up! Martyn is really feeling nervous now, he wants to avoid that pit as much as possible, but Venus Fly Trap looks to be all over it now! It isn't long before *69 is cornered again and Venus Fly Trap has it on the wedge! This time, Venus Fly Trap takes it into the Disc of Death nearby!
CRASH!!!
Some sparks, but the hit is largely ineffective, and sadly it's dislodged *69 from Venus Fly Trap's grip! Not that it really matters much, *69's weaponry looks to be disabled and it's having a real hard time fighting now! Venus Fly Trap is in its face again, *69 avoids it again but can't avoid the turnaround charge and is wedged again, this time balanced on Venus Fly Trap's remaining prong! With a now secure grip on its opponent, Venus Fly Trap finally turns to the pit and flings itself across the arena as desperately as it can! Martyn's agonized look tells the tale here as the battle turns completely on its head and the impressive-looking *69 eats pit bottom!
CEASE!
The weatherman's called for a 100% chance of some heavy showers, Martyn. Your *69 is extinguished.

Bloody Frigid vs. LowDown
From Patricia, Canada...Bloody Frigid!
A blood-chilling tale to be sure for this newcomer.
Melissa: And welcome back to the pits! You've got a robot in the Semis already! Going for another?
Tracy: You bet! And I'm thrilled.
Melissa: Great! What's your game plan here?
Tracy: Nothing special, to be frank. Just grab the bugger and pit it.
Melissa: And it'll be enough to grant you a second robot in our Semis?
Tracy: I'd like to think so.
Melissa: *aside* A little happy today, I think...
Remember Razer? Well this seems to be inspired by it. Low wedge design with a crushing beak that can exert 15 tonnes of force at the ram. It has a thick Titanium monocoque and has a powerful drive system to outpace most robots. It also can right itself, but it's slow to work, and the ground clearance is a bit yawning for me.
C&B1: Didn't compete.
C&B2: Didn't compete.
C&B3: Didn't compete.
From Merthyr Tydfil, Wales...LowDown!
Ironically went down to Razer itself last wars...
Melissa: So I take it you're not pleased about going up against another crusher?
Daniel: Not really. Razer got us pretty good in the last wars. So I hope to change that but I'm not...really confident, haha.
Melissa: Haha, well how are you going to prevent the same loss this time?
Daniel: Well hopefully we're going to dodge the crusher, get to its sides and try to flip it over somehow, then push it into the pit. Or pit it right-side-up if I can.
Melissa: Seems like a good enough plan to me! Good luck!
Daniel: Thanks. We'll probably need it.
An invertible Hardox brick with a pointed rear and bolted sides to stop stranding. It has decent power with 2 S28-400 MagMotors on its 6WD, and ha two potent lifting spikes that can work either way up. Unfortunately it has a high ground clearance and that made it susceptible last time around. Will we see it go down even lower this time?
C&B1: Didn't compete.
C&B2: Didn't compete.
C&B3: Clamped and pitted by Razer almost instantly in Round 2.

They've already gotten around to LowDown's side, they're taken advantage of the sketchy 6WD, and they've clamped it! Now where do Team Britespark go from here? There's no escape, the beak weaponry is puncturing that 4mm Hardox already, oohh! Look at that! A great breach in the top armourment! And Tracy isn't merely content with damaging it, she wants to win! Oh ho, there's the pit release button! Will LowDown suffer the same fate as last wars? A great display from the newcomer! Poor old LowDown, it's driven into the button...ah, pit pit pit, cry the crowd. LowDown's doom is niiiigh...and it crashes out!
