  • Re: How could I Improve pt 2

And to get back to my original question:

Would using Armox in this way be workable?

    • Re: How could I Improve pt 2

yes, it would work, but it would be quite hard to get the robot under 100kg, and also space inside the robot is an issue.

Could you give a design picture, top bottom ? Cause I'd like to see how you would fit 2 co2 canisters (40cm long, 14cm diameter), 2 magmotors and a 17cm diameter ram inside such a compact space.

Also, no buffertank ? So filling the ram straight from the co2 canisters ? If yes, then bad idea

Not really. I'm rather pathetic at drawing, and would have no idea how to draw it. But anyways, revised stats:

        Bandwagon 3 (Active)
        Weight: 100kg
Shape: It's a box with wedges on all sides ala Storm II. Gone is the scoop on the front.
Colour: Gold with chrome chassis and black skirts.
        Dimensions: 90cm x 85cm x 25cm
        Drive: 2x 24v S28-150 Magmotors, powered by 2 3000mAh NiCad Battlepacks.
Locomotion: A pair of Goodyear foam-filled Go-Kart tyres.
Armour: Here's where the armour gets a bit unusual: Like Killobite Hex, the chassis(3.25mm hardox) is part of the armour, however in between the chassis bars are plates of 4mm Armox that I have slid into slots in the hardox frame.
        Speed: 15mph
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front, and at sides and back due to 3mm titanium skirts. 5mm without skirts.
        Turning Circle: 0m
Weapon: The weapon is a rear-hinged flipper, powered by a 2.5kg Co2 tank at 750psi(with a 750g buffer tank) via a 100mm bore 200mm stroke ram. This should give my flipper enough power to flip about 1600kg. The flipper's ram is positioned to give me a 2:1 reduction, giving me 800kg of flipping force at the tip of the flipper.
        Srimech: The flipper.
Strengths: Very tough, powerful flipper, etc.
        Weaknesses: Made by a novice.
Bio: After reading a page about Armox on the SSAB website, I decided to use it in a vapour. Seeing as it's very tough against explosions, it should survive in the arena...
        Win/Loss Ratio: N/A

I can see a couple of things wrong there:

          1) I don't think S28-150 Magmotors are powerful enough for heavyweights. You might get away with it if you don't do any pushing. But it's better to be safe than sorry, so I'd try and get some S28-400's in there.

          2) I don't know a lot about pneumatics but I'm 99% sure there is so such thing as a 750g buffer tank. If one does exist, I would assume that it wouldn't be adequate for this purpose.

Is there a particular reason you're using Armox? Does it hold any advantages over using Hardox, Titanium etc.? Or are you using it just for the sake of using it? I'd probably increase the ground clearance a bit as well... Other than that it doesn't look too bad.

1: S28-150s are used by many a US Heavyweight(albeit mainly the lesser-known ones).

2: I took the idea from Jack Orr's CrOoKeD eVo's stats:

            Weapon: A Co2 full pressure flipper at 750psi with 1 110mm ram,and a 2kg bottle and a 750g buffer tank.
3: To quote something Leo said earlier in this thread about Armox:

You can't drill it, you can't weld it, the only thing you could do is clamp it in something, but that thing would probably get ripped off before the plate gets a scratch.
Apparently, Armox is very tough, perfect for a robot...

So you can't drill it or weld it? Then how do you plan to attach it to your robot?

I think he plans to have it slotted into a frame made up of what could possibly be described as hardox glazing bars.

Yup, just noticed it says that in the stats - I should've properly read them before posting that

                    It's okay, Jamie.

But anyways, meet the first ever Armox-covered robot!!!

EDIT: And if you check the SSAB website, they do have weldable Armox now, I'm just using the tougher non-weldable Armox.

Might want to think about using it, Jack. Especially the new weldable Armox. Might help you with Boxx 2 & Pickaxe of Doom 2. .

right ive decided to design a shuffler, hope you can give me as much advice as you can

                            metallic doom
                            shape: drillzilla low box

                            Drive: 2 36v LEM-170 motors, powered by 10x 36v A123 Battlepacks, giving me an average of 26hp.
Locomotion: 2 Drillzilla-style shuffling feet at the rear, giving Metallic Death good traction and pushing ability.
                            speed: 40mph
ground clearance: 0mm at the sides, 5mm front and back

weapons: drillzilla steel jaws and a pneumatic, double headed version of mortis' axe, powered from a co2 divers bottle,
                            delivering 400kg
of of pressure per square center meter
                            strenghs: bloody fast
weakness: robot bounces in the air when axe strikes
bio:my (i believe) 6th design thats is like and updated drillzilla

and forms of advice are welcome

Remember, I'm not necessarily an expert, but I can point out some errors...

                              Metallic Doom

                              Okay, good name.

                              shape: drillzilla low box

Don't you mean A low box shape like Drillzilla?

                              weight:150kg

                              Okay.

                              dimensions:43 x 38 x 7

According to my calculator, and the formula stating 2.5cm = 1in, the dimensions are 107cm x 95cm x 17cm, which are good.

colour: left hand side blood red, left hand side black

Don't you mean the right hand side is black? Anyways, okay.

                              Drive: 2 36v LEM-170 motors, powered by 10x 36v A123 Battlepacks, giving me an average of 26hp.

                              To quote Kody:

LEM-170s only turn well 1 way.
So you'd have to get the motors rewound to work well both ways. Also there are no such things as 36v A123s. The closest thing would be a 36.3v, so you'd need 11 packs.

Locomotion: 2 Drillzilla-style shuffling feet at the rear, giving Metallic Death good traction and pushing ability.

For some reason, I feel you directly copied Me Name is Death's Locomotion stat, aside from putting your own robot's name in...

                              speed: 40mph

Too fast. You want a speed of at max 20mph.

ground clearance: 0mm at the sides, 5mm front and back

                              Okay.

                              turning circle: 0m

                              Okay.

weapons: drillzilla steel jaws and a pneumatic, double headed version of mortis' axe, powered from a co2 divers bottle,
                              delivering 400kg
of of pressure per square centimeter

The weapon description is very vague, plus with more detailed Drillzilla jaws, you won't need the axe.

                              strenghs: bloody fast

                              A bit too fast, actually.

weakness: robot bounces in the air when axe strikes

You don't really describe how the axe strikes...

bio:my (i believe) 6th design thats is like and updated drillzilla

If you add an axe, that takes away the Drillzilla feel. Plus there's no srimech and no armour.
