  • Re: How could I Improve pt 2

hello CPA23 aka A Wafer Thin Mint, feel welcome! its good to see we still get newcomers these days, may I ask how you found this place?

As for your first attempt, not bad and fairly original, lets see, for starters I think the description of the shape could be clearer Truncated Pyramid with wedge at front, a truncated pyramid I understand, but by definition a pyramid has wedges on all 4 (I take it its a 4 sided pyramid?) sides, so with wedge at front confuses me.
Also the dimensions, while they are far from unrealistic, I get the feeling this bot could be lower, as it is its nearly a cube, then again the height may be due to the drum resting on top, but even then I get the feeling its fairly high.
Now for the weapon, the Warrior SKF flipper is a complicated weapon and nice to see you use it. You have to consider how the weapon works though and thereby how to alter it, like by using a vertical drum instead of a horizontal disc. The flipper of Warrior has a... metal thing under it somwhere, that can be lowered so its touched by the teeth of the disc. When the disc hits it, the flipper can do nothing but go up and because of their different movements (vertical/horizontal) they merely nudge each other and both continue their own path. If you'd use this technique with a vertical flipper, I think you'd rip your own flipper off. Id like to point you to Joey's robot The Hurting, first post on the following site: http://strickenone.proboards.com/index. ... thread=492 . In this complex but clever robot a vertical flywheel powers a flipper.

I can see this design doing well with some minor tweakings, good job

Incorrect. The flipper is actuated by an offset ring on top of the spinning rim. When the linkage to the flipper drops onto that offset rim, it causes it to be pulled back towards the center of the robot, pulling the top pivot of the flipper and making it lift. If it relied on a tooth hitting the flipper to work it would destroy itself after a few hits :P
I have some photos at home I can post up to show how it works if you don't understand with my rough description

lets just say I got a very rough description of how it works once, let some years go by, and what you can read in my post above is whats left of my memories, lol, your rough description is fine but Id love those pictures nonetheless

I've been interested in robotics for a while, and I decided I could use some guidance, so I looked up combat robotics forums and this came up.

Also, is the flipper a viable weapon?

          And what dimensions are suitable?

            Archives.org has them...

It uses a Magmotor to spin a 2 thick chromoly shell to about 900 RPM, and then uses a high power servo to pull an engagement pin.
This pin causes the flipper arm to drop down and ride an offset ring on top of the shell, which in turn powers the flipper, and recocks it!

                  I'll try one too

Gravity 5 (currently a vapourbot, hopefully a real one soon )
                  Weight: 100kg
Shape: Big wedge, with the front 30cm of the sides also angled in a wedge
Colour: red frame, (so red box section) rest black (armourplating between the box section)
                  Dimensions: 80cm x 70cm x 30cm
Drive: 2x 24v Bosch gpa 750's, powered by 3 PBQ 12V 9Ah sla batteries in series to give 36V.
Locomotion: 20:1 aluminium gearboxes with steel gears, running a go carth wheel/tire combo. This time the tires are filled with foam stuff so they can't get punctured
Armour: 4mm Hardox, with some 10mm polycarbonate somewhere for good looks, and some loosely mounted hdpe for the axes.
                  Speed: 15mph
Ground Clearance: Front and the first 30 cm of the sides : 0mm @ rear wheels : 30mm
                  Turning Circle: 0m
Weapon: Rear hinged full pressure flipper, powered by 2 burkert valves, 2 1,7litre buffertanks and 2 2kg co2 tanks
                  Srimech: the flipper
                  Strengths: history
                  Weaknesses: dunno
Bio: after 2004, finally a new gravity

Why is everyone using my Standard Stat sheet?

Anyways, WJ, what do you plan to do with the Vapour Gravity?

Give everyone that is currently using Gravity 5 (the one that doesn't even exist) in fanfics an idea of the specs, so now it can be used the way it's supposed to
