i dont think even he knows that joey :P

anywho, here is a feather iv been designing:

    CrOoKeD MeTaL OnE:

    Weight: 13:6kgs
    Weight-Class: Featherweight
Paintjob: black with flames and boggle eyes on the front (crooked of course ) a gaping mouth on the front/flipper (with fangs) and a menacing picture of Jeremy Clarkson on the back 
Shape: a long box wedge with rounded side and rear
    Armour: 3.5mm ali all over
Drive: 2x 14.4v dewalt drill motors
    Power: a 12v NiCad pack
Weapon: a full pressure, front hinged, pneumatic flipper, capable of giving 25-30 flips 
Ground clearance: 0mm at the front, 2mm at the sides and rear.
    Dimensions: 45x50x12
    Locomotion: 2x blue wheels
    Shrimec: the flipper
Strengths: good flipper, oota capability, nippy, can€™t be stacked

any comments, ideas, a foam filled crocodile?

A decent spinner will chew up 3.5mm ali pretty badly.

Well heres an ant i've just finished:

        Wild-ant
        weight: 150g
        weight-class: Ant weight
paint-job: black all over with wild blobs of red.
        shape: low wedge.
        lo-commotion: 2x Lego wheels
        armor: 2mm polycarbonate all over.
weapon: my favorite part! it has a pneumatic flipper that can flip from 25-30 times each battle, also it can flip over 500g.
        dimension: 4€ by 2.5€ by 1€
ground clearance: 0mm at the front 1mm at the sides and 2mm at the back
        speed: Fast
        Power: 11.1v Lipo
Drive: Micro gear motors at 50:1
Strengths: Powerful flipper, speed, pretty good armor.

4x2.5x1, way too narrow and low, It will never fit. Give it 3.5 wide and 2 high You'd be more in the ballpark. You have to store your gas somewhere, and your lipo, and your receiver, and your ESC, and your ram, and your valve etc...

Joey, I'm talking about a couple of improvements I made to the double-clutch system. Now the gear won't get knocked out of place, and it won't jump back suddenly as it engages either the drive or clutch.

As I said, I am referring to the double clutch used on Cyrilium Mach 4.

I think he means a guide slot for the lever and solenoids.

That's what I meant. That way, when the gear repeatedly engages the drive/flipper, the lever won't get knocked out of position to where the gear cannot make contact with either the drive or flipper.

Cyrilium Mach 4 is looking much better now. But you're over-estimating the weight of the spinning rim. You're also under-estimating the energy levels it will produce by a long way. It doesn't really matter what features you're adding to this double-clutch system, because at the moment I think it would destroy itself. The batteries don't look quite right either. But otherwise it's looking good.

To be honest with you, I think a dog clutch like the one in a car gearbox would work better in this situation over a double clutch because they're designed to engage at high speed unlike a gear.

Check my site for the latest stats.

I replaced the double clutch with a dog clutch(though I may reuse the double clutch should someone help me increase its reliability), and increased the known KJ count of the rim.

                            ...couple of things Mark:

                            - Out of curiosity Andy put the figures for your ring through a kinetic energy calculator, and came up with a figure in the region of 350kj. This is not a good thing, with that much energy you are going to destroy just about any clutch you try and put that energy through, and if your weapon hits anything vaguely solid I'd be willing to bet the robot would never work quite the same again, the forces involved would break something - at best your weapon, at worst your entire chassis and drivetrain would be warped out of shape as well.

                            - I freely admit I don't know much about clutches, but I do know a bit - particularly about dog clutches - and I know enough to be 95% sure that you don't know what you're really talking about, like I said above with the energy you have trying to use any sort of clutch is only going to end in something being broken.

I'm almost certain that you just think this is a cool idea and haven't thought about the practicalities of it at all...sometimes it's best to go with simpler designs, time and time again you have tried to do complex designs and your lack of knowledge has completely ruined a good idea. I'd stay away from complex systems for now and just stick to simple designs that don't require much specialist thinking to understand and implement :P

I started out with a wedge that had a disc; it had crap stats and it came 2nd in VFT4 Pinball.

I modified it again. The main difference now is that the rim's speed is now 25% the speed it previously was. What would be the KJ count for that?
