  • Re: How could I Improve pt 2

its 7mm at the sides and back, and 5mm at the front.

    so...

Name: ooh! Im dizzy€¦or O.I.D for short lol
Shape: an equilateral triangle, with what would be the pointed bit as the front.
    Weight: 100kgs
ground clearance: 7mm at the sides and rear, and 5mm at the front
Drive: 2x Lem130€™s, powered by 5x NiCad Battlepacks.
Armor: 3.2mm hardox all around, but at the back there is a 5mm hinged hardox wedge.
    Locomotion: 2 Vulkalon coated wheels
Weaponry: the best bit! It has a nasty 20kg horizontal spinning disk, sunk slightly inside the robot, made out of 8mm hardox with 6mm teeth, its powered by a LEM-130 Lynch geared down to 2000rpm
    Dimensions: 99x90x33
    Scrimec: it is invertable
    Strenghs: strong, tough, destructive
    Weakness: untested in battle

Now that look right! A bit of spell-check could help, and the robot probably won't win a tourney its first time out, but it looks fine now.

A new robot to replace Side Swipe, who has clearly survived too long...

        Tank
        Weight: 100kg
        Shape: King B Powerworks
        Colour: Green and brown Camouflage
        Dimensions: 100cm x 75cm x 20cm
Drive: 4x 24v S28-400 Magmotors, powered by 6x NiCad Battlepacks.
Locomotion: 4 solid rubber wheels, with aluminum boron carbide hubs.
        Armour: 15mm Polycarbonate
        Speed: 25mph
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front due to spikes, 20mm at back, and 5mm at sides.
        Turning Circle: 0m
Weapons: At the front, there's a 3-pronged lifting spike at the front. It scrapes the arena floor, making it 0mm at the front. At the rear, there's a large 8kg horizontally-mounted circular saw powered by a standard 24v S28-150 Magmotor. The blade spins at 1000rpm, and produces massive amounts of sparks.
        Srimech: It is invertible.
        Strengths: It looks cool.
        Weaknesses: Weak armor.

          A few things to note:

          1) The name Tank is taken by Alex MacWillaims' HW vapourbot.

          2) 25mph is not needed; it will prove too hard to control

          3) polycarb is any thickness isn't really strong armour, you might want to switch to something stronger...

          4) why do you put strengths and weaknesses? it is not a good idea to put them there in the first place (as I have learned)

          5) What powers the front lifter? what's it made of? what's the saw made of?

          6) Simply stating a robot to go by the shape is not a good idea, as you have been told countless times. Some people may not have seen King B Powerworks before... :P

          Apart from that, it's fine.

I put them there to state the obvious. Plus it makes the stats more Robot Wars-esque.

But I did mess something up...

I quite agree with this part of AJ's post. Though it is up to you, it's rather bad to have in your stats, no matter what people may have said about Robot Wars.

I get it, but either way, I think it's actually nice to have weaknesses. You have to lose eventually...

The writer should decide how you lose.

For instance, if you give strengths and weaknesses for bots that you enter in my tournaments, I will delete said strengths/weaknesses from the stats I save to use in the tournament. In my tourneys, I decide how you win or lose, not you.

I think I am with Mark on this one.

I always put my strengths and weaknesses in my stats because I acknowledge that every desings has it's pro's and con's. Besides if you can see your opponent in real life you would know what those weaknesses are and act upon it, that is a luxury you don't have in vapourboting.

                          Just as an example:

                          SPLINTER EVO
                          Weight: 100kg
                          Power: 2 750w motors
                          Weapon: Axe and clamp
Strength: Grabs and won't let go
                          Weakness: None

If you see the robot in real life, you would see that its weakness is being flipped. Therefore we should keep weaknesses, because they as close as we can get to seeing the other person's bot and noticing their weaknesses.

...well...the stats for a Splinter like robot in fanfic would be much more detailed than that, and would include details of srimech or lack thereof among other things.

Careful study of a robot's stats should tell you where its strengths and weaknesses lie, you shouldn't have to state them seperately. I once did but now don't bother :P

Um... those were supposed to be the stats of Splinter in Series 5...

While studying the stats is important, it's still easier for me to just look at the weaknesses and try and develop a strategy.

...that's why I don't give you any real weaknesses to work with?
