  • How could I Improve pt 2

The MW one might be pushing the weight a bit, with a 12kg weapon motor, 5kg of drivetrain (not counting the wheels), about 15kg of batteries to run everything (2 battlepacks wont cut it, theyll last about a minute :P), it isnt looking good to fit the armour, weapon, controllers (serious ones or a 2kg contactor for the etek) and wheels in the rest of it.

Your attention, fine ladies and gentlemen of the vapourboteering community, is requested as that famed vapourbot designer and professional sad person Mr. Joseph McConnell has designed another vapourbot, which is recognisably distinct from his other machines in that it is a wedge shaped flipper.

      Presented for your consideration:

      Stiltskin
      DIMENSIONS: 120 x 95 x 35 cms
SHAPE: Your common or garden wedge, with a rear reverse wedge and slightly sloped sides
COLOUR: Transparent, inner panels are white
DRIVE: 2 LEM130 motors run at 36v from 6 NiCad packs, driving custom built T6 aluminium and urethane rubber tracks, which are laid out within the robot similar to Kater Killer in S3/4.
      SPEED: 12mph average, 20mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 due to the tracks at the sides and the flipper at the front, about 10mm at the rear and under the side armour
ARMOUR: This is slightly complicated: The main drive motors, electronics, and batteries, as well as all the pneumatics gear save for the ram, are located inside a 4mm Hardox monocoque, which is attached to two 5mm Hardox plates that support the tracks and their drive/idler sprockets, with a 3mm titanium sheet on the outer sides of the tracks to protect from spikes and discs.
However, the main body shape of the robot is constructed from 7mm polycarbonate, with a Hardox frame and reinforcing supporting the front flipper, which both gives the robot its shape and acts as a crumple zone to protect the inner components from harm.
For those who hate descriptions: Hardox and titanium inner armour, polycarbonate outer armour with some Hardox on the front.
WEAPONS: A very powerful rear hinged pneumatic flipper in the front wedge, run on 1000psi Nitrogen stored in 2 2kg tanks to give around 10-15 flips in a fight, with a single nonattached 120mm full pressure ram that gives the entire setup a lot of lifting force, most probably in excess of WBC.
There is a small unpowered wheelie bar at the rear of the robot to prevent it flipping itself over.
SRIMECH: The flipper. The angle of the sides should prevent stranding
NOTES: Components and the side and rear polycarb are shock mounted to reduce damage from spinners and rammers and similar nasty devices.
      STRENGTHS: Proven design, powerful weapon
WEAKNESSES: Polycarbonate melts at 267 degrees Celsius, so in the event of it coming up against a robot with a microwave oven as its main weapon melting is a possibility.

Seems like a good piece of design work. Impressive work Joey - it looks like a serious contender for the future.

          Thank ye, Paul.

...and yes, Dan, it weighs 110kgs.

Joey: I dunno what vapourbot rules allow, but the FRA rules dont allow Nitrogen anymore.

I would also point out that you would be using liquid CO2 at that pressure, and if it was a real robot, youd get 3 flips before the pipes froze :P

Other than that, I like it

FINALLY finished Under Pressure, might as well post it here

You might want to get rid of the invertability and put a srimech on it instead Martijn. By the looks of it, the weapon would be totally useless inverted as the two wedge claws would grip against the opponant, and as a result the crushing claws would never get anywhere near it. Plus your advantage of scooping the opponant would be gone.

well, the wedges can still press with 3,5 tonnes of force right? I considered a srimech, among other things, and may refine this...

The wedges dont look like they come to a point, so youre spreading the crushing force over a larger area, resulting in less damage.
