With that sort of energy, some people will want you to explain how your robot can survive its own hits...usually that means putting down lots of shockproofing in the stats, but if youre Aaron Knight its usually more complex.

You will need a lot of shockproofing, but then we all have to.

Good news though, your robot should be within weight, assuming you used the combatparts 4mag gearbox with the S28-400s.

            THE ROCK

            € WEIGHT: 100kg

€ ARMOUR: 6mm Hardox monocoque on the rear, top and sides. 4mm Hardox on the base and front. Inside, I have 4cm of Vulkanised rubber to make sure its good when facing spinners.

€ SHAPE: A box-wedge shape with the front slanted at 60* in order to flip things when slamming them against the walls. All the sides are slanted at 42* INWARDS, so if it balances on any sides, it will deffinately fall back onto its wheels.

            € MOTORS: 2 x S28-400 MagMotors at 36V = 12HP

            € LOCOMOTION: 4 Vulkanised Wheels.

            € DIMENSIONS: (L) 80CM (H) 29CM (Without the point of the axe, the height is 26CM) (W) 75CM

€ COLOUR: The body is coloured grey to match the colour of Rocks, and the axe is red, including the axe-rod.

€ WEAPONRY: A VERY powerful CO2 axe. The axe is 180mm long axe, completely made of Hardox. The entire thing weights 5kg, with 3kg in the axe head - the ax head is shaped like a cone with the point cut off to cuase more dents. The axe runs on a rack-and-pinion system through a 250mm stroke, 100mm bore pneumatic cylinder at 200psi! This allows me to give 1125kg of force per hit! I have 30 hits, and I can cause some harm.

            € SPEED: 15mph

€ GROUND CLEARANCE: On every side except the front which is 0mm, the clearance is 5mm.

            € STRENGTH: Powerful weaponry.

            € WEAKNESS: Unknown.

Heres my new design for Team Insantiy. Please tell me whats right or wrong.

How exactly do you calculate the impact force on the axe?

              • How Could I Improve...

people can calculate how many kgs a flipper can lift UPWARDS, a flipper is merely a pnuematic ram with an arm, as is an axe

of course taking this route negates factors like gravity and the mass of the axe itself, but it DOES give an impression

Right, is there a formula for that?

And I screwed up on the Boxs stats (above), I said it has eight sides at one point when it actually has 6 :P

If you go to the Hassock Hogs website, there is a flipper calculator on there to download. =)

Apart from the name, as there has been a couple The Rocks in the past.

The problem with your powerful axe is that if it hits something rather solid that the axe comes to a halt it might cause some damage to your own robot

David, thats not going to be much of a problem. The bearings and cilinders and hardox axe can cope with many times the force Paul presents.

Paul, are you sure about 180mm? That is only 7 inches. That is not a big axe, even Mortis his Tanto-blade was bigger than that.

OK then - its now a 300mm long with a 30mm long axe head.

Right then - final one: a 750mm long axe rod and a 300mm axe-head, because the axe rests on the top of the robot at the front, but the axe is mounted 10cm from the front of the robot to avoid any mind of spinners lunging at it.
