  • How Could I Improve...

Its still very much overweight - as is the previous version, now I look at it, sorry.

    Four LEMs
    Hardox armour
    Nitrogen flipper

One of these does not belong in a 100kg robot.

Incidentally, Paul, what you described - mounting everything to the chassis - is not what I would refer to as a monocoque, it is what I would refer to as building a robot . A monocoque would be if you welded the entire bodyshell and support brackets together, installed an access panel, and then mounted everything inside that with no frame.

      Okay, not borderline, QUITE overweight.

Scrap two of the LEMs, Paul. I dont know HOW many times weve tried to tell you that.

        quote:

A monocoque is when you build a chassis and then mount the armour and electrics and various bits onto it, thus strengthening the design, so a 5mm Hardox monocoque is stronger than a robot with 5mm Hardox

Actually Paul, that is exactly what is NOT a monocoque. A monocoque is a shell where the armour is the chassis, therefore saving weight.

          quote:

Monocoque (French for single (mono) and shell (coque)) is a construction technique that supports structural load using an objects external skin. This stands in contrast with using an internal framework (or truss) that is then covered with a non-load-bearing skin. Monocoque construction was first widely used in aircraft, starting in the 1930s.

              You will never get 2 eteks and gearboxes for 6 wheels and 4 Hawkers in a 17 x 50 x 33cm space.

For reference, type into google: 17cm to feet

Then you will see how small that really is.

or cm to inch or inch to cm or feet to cm.

Google will calculate the right conversion for you.

And if youre feeling too lazy, 17cm = 6.8 inches.

Etek = 8 inch diameter = motors poking out top of robot = ideal target for axes/crushers

Okay Paul, Ive decided to change your stats myself because you WONT. :P Youll find that very little is changed.

                        NITRO-GENE 5.0

                        € WEIGHT: 100kg

€ ARMOUR: 5mm Hardox monocoque for the body. 4mm Hardox flipper. Inside the body, there€™s 1cm of Vulkanised rubber on the sides and rear, with 3cm on the front to help fight powerful spinners, and theres also 7cm of PU foam covering the motors and flipper rams inside for protection.

€ SHAPE: Low invertible box with prism-esque sides and rear (Like a / shape rotated 90 degrees). At the front is a 42* wedge to aid in getting underneath other robots and deflecting hits from strong spinners. All the lines have been curved over to make it harder for a spinner to grab onto a panel and rip.

                        € MOTORS: 2 x LEM 130€™s at 36V = 18HP

€ LOCOMOTION: 4 Vulkanised Wheels, 160mm in diameter and 60mm in width, maximising traction with 4 wheels.

                        € DIMENSIONS: (L) 85CM (H) 15CM (W) 80CM

€ COLOUR: Dark red all over with the flipper coloured dark blue with the name imblazed on the flipper (running withways on the front) in gold writing with a thick silver outline. All the edges of the robot are coloured silver.

€ WEAPONRY: A full pressure Nitrogen powered flipper at 1000psi, using a single 100mm ram at 1000psi. The flipper is mounted in the middle of the robot, and is 20cm wide and runs 60cm up the body. Using a 8cm long 10mm thick Titanium wedge underneath the flipper, and a heavy flipping arm, the flipper runs completely along the ground. Running on a ratio 2.1:1, the flipper produces 1700kg of force at the tips, allowing me to launch anyone away! This version has enough lift to get a robot of equal size 11-7ft into the air, and throw it 11-7ft along. This version has 2 x 3kg Nitrogen bottles, giving me 25 flips! The flipper has enough power to self-right Nitro-Gene in a super stylish 540* somersault!

                        € SPEED: 22mph

€ GROUND CLEARANCE: 0MM-1CM. At the front, it is completely 0mm. On the sides/rear, its 2cm. The orginal weakness of Nitro-Gene (its high ground clearance) has been seen to by the skirts on the sides/rear. They are 7mm Titanium skirts and are joined together like BioHazard - at the corners - to make in near impossible for anything to get under them. To avoid them breaking off, they are held in place by 4mm Hardox hinges.

€ STRENGTH: Pushing power and weaponry.

€ WEAKNESS: High ground clearance under skirts.

I think Ive already said Paul should loose one of the bottles or raise the robot, you cant get that all to fit in a small space like that.

Hang on Kody, Ive just posted those changes up! But if its all cushty and fine, Ill go with Leos advice and make the height 20cm, and the wheels will then be 220mm in diameter.

Paul the version currently on ZED has 4 LEMs, while Kodys in-weight version has 2.
