    Eye Of The Robot - Series 2

    Generally Paul, youll need to write longer battles. Let more hits occur, more disc-hits, more axe-blows, more flips, and even MISSES, and try to describe those hits in more detail. Dents, pierces, stuff ripped off, robots flying trough the air, WHATEVER. MANY things can happen in one fight, and if you watched the tv-show (and realize what you see on tv is a SHORTER version of what happened), you know what can happen when certain robots fight.

      Martijn said it all for me, I see.

      I just (really) dont like bad fights, and I am being truthful in saying that they are bad fights. Im not going to say that they are good if theyre not, Alex. :P The only way I can rephrase my previous comment nicely...is that these fights really, REALLY need an improvement.

          Understandable, but if Paul isnt going to be nice then I wont be either, and he hasnt been acting too nicely lately. :P

            Welcome back to the king of Robot Wars axes, as it pierced out Axe-O-Lotl, Hell Machine, The Axe Attaxe, Whirligig 4.0, but fell to Storm 2 in the round before the final, however, it outlasted Crusher C.U before being pitted by Y4, to take 5th place! It€™s still shaped like a tetrahedron, armoured with a 6mm Stainless Steel front, and 12mm Polycarbonate armour, as well as that dreadful axe generating 900kg of force! It is very strong and hard to beat, but Terrorhurtz has a high rear ground clearance, open for many a flipper!

            Back comes a Storm 2 clone, hoping to recreate the formers success. A simple box wedge, with 6 wheel drive, and 2 LEM-130€™S at 46V, giving 25mph and 18hp. It also has a fiercely thick front end, being armoured with 1cm of Aluminium Boron Carbide, a substance which is twice as thick as the tough metal, Tungsten Steel, but lighter than Titanium, as well as having 5mm ABC for the sides and rear, including 14mm Polycarbonate for the top. The Bio-Hazard flipper has some power, but an axe could get through the top!

            This machine€™s Back On The Chain Gang! An invertible pushing box, using 2 Eteks at 48V to give 30hp to power 4 wet Go-Kart wheels. The shell is made of 5mm Stainless Steel, a substance that could keep many a machine masher away. For weapons, it sports a 12.5kg drum, spinning at 5500rpm and generating 28kj of force!! It is tough, but it can be flipped easily!

            In quite possibly the most exciting match-up yet, we go over to the arena, as the crowd cheers, as banners for Terrorhurtz, Kali and BOTCG fly!

            They all speed into the middle of the arena, as Terrorhurtz turns into Kali, getting under the front, and pounding the 14mm Polycarbonate top. The top is getting wrecked, but a flip from the flipper, sends Terrorhurtz the message to back off. Now the pair team up on the sides of BOTCG, as Kali flips, Terrorhurtz axes, resulting in many a dent hitting the top and sides of BOTCG. Kali flips it back over, giving it more aggression points. Terrorhurtz comes back for Kali, axing the top, as BOTCG his Kali in the sides, flipping it over, but Kali runs away before stylishly self-righting and charging into and flipping Terrorhurtz over. Terrorhurtz and Kali now try to attack the front of BOTCG, but they are both bounces away, until Terrorhurtz gets around the sides, getting really far underneath, pushes it towards the arena wall, and the pit release button, but Kali charges in to flip it over the wall.

            Result:
            BOTCG gets beaten in Round One!
            TERRORHURTZ (5) AND KALI GO THROUGH TO ROUND TWO!!

            He is Clawdius Decimus Murderous, a robot with a sword of doom! Like the other seed in the heat, Terrorhurtz, Clawdius has a great battle record, but also like Terrorhurtz, it was beaten by runner-up Storm 2 last time around. Its still a 4 wheel drive wedge with a crusher, but this time, instead of 3.25mm Hardox, its 5mm Hardox. With almost everything the same, its questionable to see how well it€™ll do.

            The idea of terror has gone into third gear! This American robot is box shaped, geared to get up to a speed of 26mph, and has 8mm Titanium. For weaponry, it has a 15kg drum, capable of destroying a few mm€™s of Titanium! But the armour is weaker than most, but will you last long enough to get it?

            A tasty robot, of which I€™ve made a completely tasteless joke! Lunch Box is a wedge shaped machine with a full-pressure front hinged flipper. The robots powerful drive means it can get under anything and flip it OOTA, no questions asked! The armour and speed is decent, but if it gets flipped against the side, it could flip itself out!

            Prepare folk, for the battle of the machines with the dangerous names: Clawdius Decimus Murderous, Terror Gear 3, AND Lunch Box!

            Scott presses down on his controls first off, and powers Lunch Box into CDM, hoping to break underneath and score a quick win, but its CDM who gets underneath and pushes Lunch Box into the pit release button. Terror Gear isn€™t doing much, at the moment, as Lunch Box is pushed into it. CDM breaks its hold on Lunch Box, and turns away, as Lunch Box now attacks, and flips CDM 3ft into the air and 3metres forwards. Terror Gear comes in to try and keep it down, but doesn€™t succeed, as Lunch Box now decides to push Terror Gear towards the sidewall and flip! Terror Gear out!

            Result:
            Terror Gear 3 jammed in reverse, drives out of the competition!

              So now we have a battle of power, but will the seed go through, or will Lunch Box seal its fate?

              Terrorhurtz is 1mph faster, and quickly speeds into the front of Lunch Box. The axe hammers in, and dents in the Titanium outside easily, and with little difficulty. Lunch Box flips forward, and rebounds the axe, flipping it up at the rear. Lunch Box now flips Terrorhurtz back, but the axe self-rights it almost instantly, and charges Lunch Box into the side wall of the arena. Then Terrorhurtz bashes Lunch Box over, and faces the flipper against the wall. Scott activates the flipper, but it flies over the arena sidewall!

              Result:
              Lunch Box is just as powerful as a ham sandwich!
              TERRORHURTZ (5) GOES THROUGH TO THE HEAT FINAL!!!

              KALI vs. CLAWDIUS DECIMUS MURDEROUS

              The god, against the warrior. Will Kali be god-awful? Or will Clawdius Decimus Murderous suffer a warrior€™s death?

              Clawdius moves quickly out towards Kali, but Kali moves out slowly, before driving fast into CDM€™s sides, and pushes it quickly and speedily into the Hardox spikes. Then Kali activates its flipper, to jam the claw under the spikes! Kali turns CDM around, and with a final flip, ends the chances of the Scottish warrior.

              Result:
              Clawdius Decimus Murderous (21) has the taste of defeat!
              KALI GOES THROUGH TO THE HEAT FINAL!!!

                There€™s already a seed and a non-seed in the semis. Will Terrorhurtz join Killotine: EVO there, or will Kali join Star 69 there?

                Terrorhurtz reverses out of the way of Kali, as it comes charging towards it. Kali then gets trapped in a corner, as Terrorhurtz comes in to pound the top armour but it is just bouncing off this time, unlike the first round. Terrorhurtz now pushes under the sides, aiming to pound the wheels, and taking chunks out of the Vulkalon treaded tyres. Now Kali drives off the Terrorhurtz front, and hits the pit release button. Terrorhurtz, now behind, thwacks the rear, but Kali reverses it towards the pit. Terrorhurtz just dodges, but it€™s starting to struggle now. It now plans to get Kali flipped, and drives into the centre of the arena, but Kali gets under that rear ground clearance! Its now pushing it into the sidewall, building up speed, and then a ram and a flip into the sidewall sends Terrorhurtz crashing onto the outside of the ring! Kali does a spin of delight, having made the semis!

                Result:
                Terrorhurtz (5) feels the hurtz!
                KALI GOES THROUGH TO THE SEREIS SEMI-FINALS!!

                  SNDOS stands for €˜Slice N Dice On Steroids€™, just so you know! Last year, it Slice N Diced Gravity, Cyclone Force 2.5 and Firestorm, before it was pitted by Black Panther Queen! Like last year, SNDOS is a box with 4mm Hardox protection, and a 30kg disc at 3000rpm! Deadly! But the speed and power isn€™t that good, and could be in trouble if the weapon stops!

                  This is one of the scariest designs in vapourbot history. Another box-wedge shape, with two spinning discs on the top the robot, and two hydraulic lifting clampers at the front. The speed of the robot is used to get to machines, the clampers clamp down, and lift a machine onto the discs, which weigh 10kgs and are very strong, but if it fails to get in the first hit, then the 3mm Aluminium will be cannon fodder!

                  Will you welcome, next up, the master of the ring! The Welsh ring spinner, is a low invertible cylinder, with 4 wheels, powered by 2 LEM130s at 46V giving it 20mph, and 18hp, so it can work even without the weapon. And for the good of everyone, the weapon might not work, as its weapon is a 2metre diameter ring, with 8 steel teeth on the perimeter. It€™s got a weight of 30kg, and a maximum rpm rating of 1000, and generating 150kj of energy. It is tough, but doesn€™t have a great protection on top!

                  Psycho Cyan rushes out with its much greater speed, and tries to grab SNDOS, which is a bad move, as SNDOS moves backwards-right, and Psycho Cyan only hits the wall, so SNDOS moves in with the disc, and throws it over as well as ripping the aluminium panel in two! RingMaster is now spinning and comes to attack SNDOS, as Cyan self-rights onto the spinning ring - more damage, this time to the front! Antony is thinking of tapping-out, but isn€™t able to as RingMaster lands another blow to the wounded robot! But now RingMaster goes for SNDOS, and Antony notices he can still move!!! RingMaster clashes with SNDOS, who takes away a chunk of the ring! Cyan tries to get a blow, but drives onto the flipping spikes, and is turned upside down again! SNDOS takes the chance, and cracks into the base panel, ripping a large crack from it! Smoke is appearing from the inside, as the countdown begins!

                  Look out for the eye of the storm, and look out for Psyclonised!! A robot with great potential, which only reach Round 2 last time, following a pitting by Crusher C.U. This still can do quite well - it€™s an invertible circular robot, with a spinning ring around the edge, making it something known as a ring spinner, but it also has a basic spinning cage mounted to it, which has 3 large Hardox blocks attached to dish out some serious hurts! The cage works as an anti-axe frame, and speeds of 15mph are nothing to argue with. If anyone can find a weakness in this machine, we€™ll be the first to tell you€¦

                  Panic!!! Panic Attack, but better according to the designer. It€™s a low box, with 6 Vulkalon wheels, and two Magmotors for power. As well as the lifting forks, it can push well, but a good spinner could crunch it up and spit it out!

                  Mega Masher - it does exactly what it says on the tin. A large invertible wedge shape robot, moving at 20mph, and with 5mm Titanium armour and a rear saw blade, is a very powerful machine, despite losing in round one last year to Tails and Flux. But if the tyres are hit it could be in trouble!

                  We€™re here for another battle in the competition, but who€™s the top dog, and who€™s the dog€™s what its?

                  Mega Masher and Panic speed into each other, as Psyclonised revs up to a vicious speed. Mega Masher 2 gets underneath Panic, and shows it the way to Psyclonised, who tears through the Lexan and Aluminium shell like paper. But as Mega Masher turns Panic around, Psyclonised hits it in the side, and creates rips-a-plenty in the side! Psyclonised moves around, and sandwiches Panic, ripping it again and also goes for the front of Mega Masher. Panic is now thrust into the sidewall, and Psyclonised comes in for another hit on Panic. Martyn has now decided to tap out to avoid any more damage.

                  Result:
                  Panic 3 GTI 2 isn€™t worth panicking over.
                  PSYCLONISED (23) AND MEGA MASHER 2 GO THROUGH TO ROUND TWO!!

                    The flywheel and wedge collide, and sparks will fly but which one will die?

                    Mega Masher bursts off the starting square with awesome speed, followed by SNDOS, moving at its trademark 12mph movement rate. SNDOS moves forwards with its blade spinning, and then makes contact with the front wedge of Mega Masher. SNDOS slices the wedge, but SNDOS is also pushed back into the sidewall. Mega Masher gets underneath again and pushes it into the sidewall. SNDOS catches the wedge again, and rips a panel off it, before it reverses off the wedge, and hits it on the sides, flipping Mega Masher upwards, and onto the sidewall of the arena! Mega Masher€™s huge wheels let it down, and it shoves back onto SNDOS. It goes towards the pit release button, but SNDOS hits it in the back and flicks it onto its side! Mega Masher seems unable to get down from there!

                    Psyclonised spun up, as SNDOS got closer. Both machines have reached their spinning speed maximum, and come together, but the first clash rips a panel of the front of SNDOS, and now it reverses to spin up the blades. Psyclonised is it in the side now, and throws it sideways towards the pit, which was closed anyway, so SNDOS hits again, planning to do something, and flicks up the whirling Psyclonised very slightly. SNDOS then drives forwards, hoping to flick it up even more, but only manages to scratch the Hardox undercoating. Psyclonised is slowed down a bit, and SNDOS tries to batter it towards the side of the arena. But now Psyclonised runs away, and spin up, before coming in for another attack, BANG!!! SNDOS stops dead!

                        Paul, some tips about writing better fights and tournies:

                        1) Despite what others may say, long fights are not mandatory. In televised Robot Wars, fights would sometimes last a matter of seconds. However, detail is important in a good fight. Describe the dents, the gashes, how many times a robot bounces after being flipped. The dodging and wheeling around each other to get in a good attack leads to good tension.

                        2) Remember the people controlling the robot. If Killotine is being thrown around by Achilles, try mentioning Steve being worried, or Alex getting excited at the prospect of sending Killotine OOTA. Adding people adds a connection and makes it more real.

                        3) Research can add to your descriptive flare. Learn what types of weapon are likely to do what kind of damage. For example, toothpick axes will likely punch straight through thin poly, but a Terrorhurtz style one will either crack and chip it, or just shatter a whole panel, depending on the strength.

                        4) When it comes to tournies, dont just enter a load of robots you want to enter and expect people to get wildly enthusiastic. Ive read a couple of fights, but I havent been interest A) because the fight quality is lacking, and B) because I dont have any entries, and therefore no vested interest. If youre just trying io improve your writing, write random fights and ask for feedback.

                        5) Most importantly, dont write a robot to win a fight just because its seeded or because you like it. Case in point, MDU 4 in Crash & Burn (I believe). While normally a very sucesful and destructive design, it was drawn against a robot designed specifically to beat it, and lost at an early stage.

                            Ive actually been remembering to write about some of the people at the controls of the robot, and youll see that later on in the contests.

                              Thats why practise is your friend, and why its a good idea to get feedback between fights instead of writing a huge number of fights at your current skill level.
