LMAO @ Stu. Damn, I wish we had some CNC companies close at hand, but hey, the closest would be around 200km.

What if I can become Ed hoppit now
(I am looking into different steels for the disc, so exact specs on the material I choose will come soon. I am currently doing some CADs for the body panels and sections, and soon Ill do a picture for the weapon mounts/setup).

            Help with disc

I say just stick with the brick ewan. If u try and add a drill powered disc (which i am doubting will be effective) no offense or anything then it may cause more trouble than its worth and not do much. The brick is a good design with the wedge. Spinners need to do huge damage to kill then and it can slam robots all over the place.

              Help with disc

I am going to add this. It does have potential as a weapon. The WHOLE weapon setup will weigh only 2.0kg (using the weight saved from changing the chassis & armour to 10mm aluminium all over). The old steel chassis weighed WAY too much for a featherweight, and was armoured way OTT in areas. I dont think many spinners will stand a chance of going through 10mm aluminium anyway (I am using the same construction idea of tapped holes all over holding the chassis together as http://www.teammadcow.com/alos.htmhttp://www.teammadcow.com/alos.htm this robot looks amazingly well built, and his is only around 6kg).

The whole drive system will be exactly the same, so itll still push/ram as it used to, the only difference being the disc can be used as a weapon while pushing...

Be warned tho ewan, good as alos is, the drilling and tapping technique doesnt translate up the weight scale well- welding is considerably stronger, and, as the guy who built alos will attest, it takes one decent hit and all the holes are knocked out of alignment. If youre using 2014 thats not such a problem, as its inherenly more stiff, but its something you should be aware of if youre using a 6XXX alloy.

Yeah, Ive taken that into account, but the way that Micro-Maul evo 1 & Micro-Maul evo 2 are built means the top and bottom polycarbonate panels add to the twisting strength of the robot. Any hard hits will have to break the polycarbonate/shear a load of bolts to do anything.
I have seen that Alos only uses a carbonfirbre top, not designed for much structural strength. I guess the only way to test it is to but it against a load of spinners...

& thanks everyone, I have taken all of your comments into account with the finalised design of the disc.

                  Cheers, Ewan

                    Help with disc

Hello, im also making some kind of disc weapon (like belladonna, only its a vertical spinner).
Id like to use a 24 v ev-warrior for the weapon, but, would I need 2 or would just 1 be enough for a featherweight?

                      Help with disc

One EV Warrior motor would be fine for a featherweight alot of heavier american weight classes use one or two EV Warrior motor for a decent weapon so one is fine.

ok, thats nice . Also, would one 24 v 3Ah pack be ok, or could i use something a bit less? like 2.4 Ah ni-cds?
2 Ah, 12 v would be enough for 2 drill motors, i guess.

can you use fan from cars as spinner motor, or is it to weak?

Car fan motors can be awesome depending on the car that it came from, people keep on telling me that some BMWs have a motor made by Lynch that will put out 3Hp at 24V but I dont know how reliable that is. I do know that Aaargh uses a car fan motor to power its disc with great success.

                              Joe Townsend

(apologies for any incoherency or bad english, I am completely off my pickles )

                                Help with disc

car fan motor spinners over in australia are a regular thing.

they have a fair bit of power, around the 600w at 24v range and you can also use heater motors from cars. they also have a good output.

you will find though that some fan motors (if not most) are pancake motors with a spinning plate instead of a shaft. i believe someone on this forum has a wedge type robot with a bar on it that uses one.

ive also heard that BMW motors are lynches joseph, but they also cost a ton brand new. ive not managed to find any places that deal in BMW used parts.

audi 100 fan motors sound quite powerful as well ive heard.

overall the fan motors arent the most powerful thing on the planet, but are easy to mount and use and have decent power.

                                hope that helps
