Yeah i heard something about micro switches but just thought thed get anhilated, id be very interested to see the wiring diagram if you can remember it.

Would the 24V 250W motors off here http://www.electricscooterparts.com/motors.html be a safe bet, im sure i could probably find some in the uk on ebay or something but that just the first place I looked.

I was planning to go the speed controller route but havent got much experience choosing speed controllers. I am using the wotty 100 for my drive. So could anyone recomend something that would easily deal with this?

for the speedo it really depends on the motor you decide upon and therefore how much current it will draw and a budget helps

also on that microswicthes bit you could position so the handle of what ever you deicde to use as the 'ax'e will switch them on and off so less force (i think) will hit them

maybe you could put the microswitches on a spring so that it wont get smashed, but im sure that making sure it wont break will be hard.

i also would like to see that wiring diagram if you dont mind drawing one. my brother is obsessed with axes and wants the second robot we make to have one.

Yeah should've clarified that I was referring to the handle part too, wouldn't want the sharp blade of the axe attacking the poor microswitches

Well I was gonna draw a diagram up that night, then realised that the old diagram I had for wiring limit switches was a bit, err, incorrect! But I'm down home for a weekend so can dig out the correct diagram and get it drawn up

just a point on microswitches. You don't need to have them operate by the axe arm. You can also put a cam on the axe shaft and it will operate the two limit switches as it rotates. Also a fair ide to put a stop in for the axe. The microswitches will stop the current to the axe but the axe will keep moving so unless you put in a deliberate stop bar or similar you'll find it will damage the robot.

Froggy uses a fairly large steel bar and some foam on pure evil which seems to work well enough.

Good idea with the foam, somehting squijy should stop your microswitches getting damaged but have something in the way to stop the axe jsut after the microswitch clicks.

Thankyou again for the help with the wiring, looking into get some microswitches soon. Have the motor on order, its a 24V 250W scooter motor, is there any way in which i can determine its stall current to see what speed controller I need, or anyone have any good recomendations for a weapon controller. I was thinking maybe the victor range was a good bet

It says there that you multiply the resistance of the motor by the voltage you will use it at.

Not sure if its correct but it might work.

Don't bother with a speed controller for the axe, you'll need a switch or relay as you're looking for an instant acceleration. I used these in hornet and they happily handled a magmotor stalled for a few seconds so you should be fine.

You won't find anything similar cheaper. Couple it along with a battleswitch etc and you'll have you're weapon control system that should happily handle your motor when stalled.
