Well an interesting Stevenage
Spur 3 had plenty of push and was fast
Need the front scoop to help throw some robots about
At the end of session 1 a tyre came off - not enough screws and need to be pan head
Fixed that
Setup for session2 and had dramatic smoke coming from the bot. Crew did a great job of grabbing the robot and racing outside
After a blast of CO2 worked out it was not lipo but a TZ85a. Once stripped down I could see that one of the motor bolts had come loose jamming the gear and stalling the motor. TZ85a vs NTM 5060. Time for a HK order
Happy with the day though. Robot shows alot of promise and can focus on fixing various things
Alex drove Spur 2 and that had a good day after working on strengthening the drive line. It did shed a tyre. Looking at them the rubber is getting end of life. Therefore it starts Sunday with new tyres
Nuts had a great Saturday , Rory can write that up

Been a while since I posted on this
Put a front scoop on Spur 3 and locktite in all the important places. Should be ready to roll
Started collecting the parts for Heavyweight drive gearbox. Since I was in the US I picked up some Neumotor 8019-150KV
Its 1.2 Kg of motor goodness
These are chunky and much more substantial than the Rotomax I was looking at. Once I have finalised the gearbox design I will be off to the local engineering shop for some milling

Many thoughts , havent decided yet. I seem to have started a whole debate in the combat robotics section on FB
There are the castle mamba xlx and also a China https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https...98&h=UAQEuvwCH

So I see - I am using A Kontronk Kosmik 200 with my 8019 - its powering a weapon so I don't need reverse. The MGM controllers are well made and the tech support is super helpful; they offered to do custom code for me. VESCs are probably borderline for power handling and the guys over here are not sure how they will handle high pole count motors.

Had a look at the MGM's, they are nice but pricey [increasingly so with the pound dropping!]. The Castle is looking more of a possibility. Rory was interested in fettling the Aliexpress. For now I will design space that will take either, have enough stuff going on to keep me busy

Thinking about wheels, its been going round and round in my head
I made wheels for Spur 3 from Nylon and its was a pain, modified Banebots for Spur 2 and blue tyred jobs for Spur
Having seen castor wheels fail spectacularly at robot wars I didnt want to go this way for my heavy. Spent a ton of time trawling round looking for pre-made wheels I found these at TEP Technica Ltd https://www.technicawheels.co.uk/
They are worth a look
Even better they were about 20 minutes drive away
Onto the next bits

Since I don't have enough pain, misery and frustration in my life I am going large brushless outrunner
Start-up torque will be interesting - my usual approach is go big and low KV on the motor then sensorless
Be fun finding an ESC that doesnt turn into a toaster and dont get me started on VESC.
Did i say I don't have enough pain, misery and frustration in my life
