  • I've only been to one event and I lost every fight. ..badly aha

It's great seeing robots still being built from household materials, it shows others that you don't need anything fancy to get involved, even if you never win a fight you can have fun.

Nothing to be worried about with lipo's if they're treated with a bit of care, understanding them is relatively easy too, take the lipo I've been talking about as an example. It's capacity is 1000mah and it's 25 - 50c, you multiply the c rating by the capacity, so it can supply 25a constantly and 50a peak for a few seconds.

    • Well done a bit more, weighed everything and it comes to 1.2kg which is a relief. Got the bug for the pretendo-bot thing so took some snaps to stick up to give anyone interested a bit of an idea of how things are progressing. Obviously is a bit ramshackle given my fabrication skills lol and needs everything mounting and wiring with some holes for the wheels.

      • You could make that like half the size. So much empty space!

        • Yeah been thinking that.

          • Giant battery is giant, looking good though. Hopefully I get to fight it at the event on the 28th.

            • im building something similar only diffrence being the scoop and i wil be 6 wheel drive...should be an intresting duel i will need to practice my driving

              • Yeah i have another scoop I made over the weekend made from steel but it's stupid heavy and didn't really fit lol. The battery is a bit over kill, might try and get an SLA in the next one lol

It looks massive in the pictures now I've posted them but it's only a bit bigger than my hand in real life.

I've developed this weird logic in that I reckon there won't be any decent hammers at 1.5kg, so you're better putting most of your weight into perimeter Armour to fend off spinners. (not quite sure where ally angle fits into this like). I bet trying to get 6x6 into 1.5kg is hard work!

                • You're right there, it's unlikely you'll get an effective hammer/axe at this weight. Alu angle will get torn up pretty quickly at the thickness you have it, 10mm hdpe would stand up no problem to pretty much all spinners, you may even get away with 10mm chopping board.

                  • im building mine out of hdpe to be a high speed brick i recokon 1jk hitting people at top speed will upset something inside

                    • I had the angle ally kicking about in my "random stuff for robot building" stock pile so decided to go with that. If it really will get shredded in the first ten seconds I suppose I'll have to buy something.

Don't have a clue what 1kj is in real-life momentum but it sounds like a lot! I reckon my robot would be about a medium-ish thud given the motors I have

                      • I'd be surprised if you get a kj of energy from just ramming someone, Lynx at 10, 000 rpm with a 350mm bar was hitting around 1.2kj and that's big for a beetle spinner.

                        • Your beetle weight would have to be traveling at 80 miles per hour and stop completely on impact to give 1kj of energy!
                          Kinetic Energy= 0.5*mass*(velocity)^2
                          So velocity = Sqrt(KE*2/mass )
                          = Sqrt(1000*2/1.5)
                          = 36.5 m/s
                          = 80 mph

                          • I saw suvv write 1jk of energy and read it as 1kj. I think he meant 1 joule abbreviated to 1jl but instead typed 1jk. 1 joule is 1 newton acting to move something a meter so that would make more sense lol. It's me that's written 1kj sorry

                            • That would give 2.5mph, bit slow but sounds about right for a beetleweight

                              • umm actually that was my dislexcia kicking in i meant to type 1kg and i think i had a special moment sorry folks although i loved the maths
