  • Of everything half finished decided to get back into building a bit and finish the feather that's been half done for six months. Took on a weird tangent like La Machine. Don't ask me why. Roll over hoop is probably not far behind lol. It's only for non spinner events so just has plywood and ally body. This 12mm ply is surprising tough. Erm...so yeah...latest picture of Rag N Bone 2.

    • Right, so....here in costa-del-blackpool we've been busy, especially the cad dept. Nevermind sketchup and auto desk, paint is where it's at! We've decided we could do with unleashing our unique brand of pandamonium and insanity on the unsuspect heavy weight folks, so we've been cunjuring up one of these here heavies. Sorry for the lack of pictures, I have the PR dept sorting that out. The basic thrux is a thwack bot as we don't need much push and therefor our weedy wheelchair setup will do the job. A couple of SLA's are gonna be procured at some point, as well as 3mm steel top and bottom plate. Found a place here in the land of stag=doo's that will cut what we want for about sixty quid all in which seems pretty reasonable.

We're gonna have a reasonable strength internal box that everything sits in and a 12lb sledge, and then sandwich the whole thing in steel plate in case thor and titan are kicking about. We want to call this Tumbler. So we've got the drives sorted, gonna nag a bit more about the batteries in a bit, receiver and trans are gonna get ordered in a fortnight on pay day and going to see about one of the smaller wottys. We've got a load of ply and 4x2 to make up the internal structure, sledge is on the way. We're not bothered about being competitive, but we just thought if we're gonna get to a couple of events a year may as well bring a heavy :-) I got some pictures about taking the brakes off the motors, got the mountings straight now and we're good to go.

      • Another small update, started getting the mock up together to make sure the sizes all look right in real life. I've decided against a 12lb sledge as I can get a long enough handle in an "off-the-shelf" item. i'm going to make my own really simple one from 2x2 box section and make a beefy axe head thing for it.

        • Been doing a bit more to get trashy feather finished. The shape isn't really following a design just sort of adding bits as I go.

          • It's alive! It's just taken yonks to upload the video of the nail lol so you all better watch it!

Anyway, got Rag N Bone 2 running this afternoon. It's not completely finished yet but you get the idea.

              Jokes aside, great robot dave

              • Looking good. The shape reminds me of La Machine!

                • Cheers ears! Need to find a way to roll it back over when it gets chucked now lol. :-)

                  Thanks for the kind words.

                      • That's not the point, it's always good to animate a pile of parts.

                        • Hey thats cool, I like the shape a lot. Could go with a large hardcore servo with a small arm to roll it back onto its wheels? Whens its first event?

                          • Yeah that's a cool idea with the servo! I saw a big one linked on Lazy Toads website:

                            http://www.vantec.com/ssps105.htm

I was trying to get to Barnsley at the end of June but baby number 2 is due 2nd July so not sure if that will happen or not lol.

The next one oop norf is Doncaster later in the year I think so could give it a run out then

Thank you for all the nice comments! I started out with La Machine in mind and the robot just sort of ended up like this the more I cut and drilled haha. Really really want to build a Torpedo 850 drive train but don't have a drill press just yet to get the accuracy for the Mod 1.0 stuff.

                            • Good luck with baby number two mate.
I am aware of those servos but 650+ dollars is quite a tall order for a servo
                              I would recommend hobby king:
Quick check and I found this. 25 bucks, 20kg of torque and should be more than enough.

                              http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ec_140_5g.html

I wouldnt recommend attaching an arm directly onto the servo as they just arnt designed for this kind of thing but a leaver or pushing onto a leaver mechanism would work. Its what I do on the front prongs of my robot and I havnt knackered a servo yet.

                              • Yeah I will have to come up with some way of rolling it back over. Have looked at servos and high torque MFA motors etc. I've been really impressed with Scissorhands' and Mr Mangle's roll over hoops Been reading a few bits on which shapes work and don't work, also badgered a few people about it lol.

One thing I keep thinking is that there are very few "lifters" out there now. Most of those sorts of robots are FP Flippers that are after lobbing you out of the arena, in which case no amount of invertible-ness or self righting is going to help.
