    • bacon wizard - your weapon idea sounds really cool but are you sure you would be allowed to use it in the robot wars and robots live arenas? would be a shame if you built it then couldn't

The American the Judge? It was 'rack & pinion' by chain.

I've checked, and in principle yes. As always, EO gets the last word.

          • The FBS is coming together, got the car wheel and have now been donated a massive cylindrical block of Ali.

But, a problem. I cannot get my head round how I can mount the wheel so the it can spin freely above the robot, and be strong enough to take the knocks.

Plan is to spin the car wheel by friction drive against the inside edge of the rim, so I don't need to worry about powering the wheel from the centre.

Anyone got some inspiration, insight, photos I can steal ideas from?

            Thanks!

            • Would using some type of bearing and hollow metal tube secured to the inside work?

              • PJ, maybe look through a couple of the FBS albums from here:

                Hope that is vaguely helpful.

                • What events are those photos from?

Given me some ideas though, thanks!

@Matt I was considering tubing since I can get a large diameter (the centre hoe for the hub is quite large) but not too much weight.

                      • Here's the Ali Billet I was given. It was donated by a very kind man down the road from me who had it 'just lying around'. Given it's size it makes for a tempting drum spinner!

                            • Haha, it does rather look that way! Unsure why the forum uploader has put it on it's side though.
