Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects

the role of tape is where the action happens, it will control the robot:P

it was just in there to hold the drills up to where they will be mounted once i've got the motor brackets in

looks tidy mate, not to confident about the choice of possition for those packs though. No way you could of mounted them both in the back of the robot in a similar way? ... like just take of the lower back plate to pull them both out?

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects

i didn't wana have the batteries too near the back of the robot because when/if im against vorzontals ill be reversing into them alot, so i've got an air gap there, but also if i had the batteries at the back the drum motor bulk head wouldn't be able to be fixed to the back bulkhead and in a few other places - and also the whole bulkhead would be weakend as it would have to have an even bigger massive gap cut out, so i've gone for putting them where they are now - when u see my robot you'll see what i mean lol

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects

today the bits from grant arrived- the drums end caps, teeth, motor brackets and wheels so today i planned on getting the drum fully mounted and ofcourse nothing goes to plan and after a few set backs i managed to get the drum finished at least without the teeth for now. heres some pics........................

DSC02542.JPG[/attachment:2g32mage]

in the above pic this is my old drum, eagle eyed onlookers may notice its cut in half:P thats because i tried out the endcaps in it and they got completly stuck and they ended up going too far into the drum and were impossible to get out again so the only thing i could do was cut the drum in half which took ages and knock them both out afterwards.

DSC02544.JPG[/attachment:2g32mage]

this is the finished new section of pipe for my drum i held the tooth against it to see what it would look like for now i've just used those hex head bolts, eventually i'll get some counter sunk ones in there.

DSC02545.JPG[/attachment:2g32mage]

and this if the finished drum spinning- with out the teeth still.

the weight of the chassis is 7.5kg- thats including batts, speedos and pretty much the whole robot not including the top armour and the wheels, and the drum with the shaft and new teeth weighs 3.4kg, so hopefully it should all be ok.

Pfft, 3.4kg and with not all of that spinning?

Mine's 4.5kg of rotating mass...

Seriously though, it looks great so far you thinking of going brushless for the weapon drive sometime in the future?

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects

your nick whos making a drum aswell arnt you how is yours comming along?

and this robot is only trouble starter mark 1 and is my first go at making a spinner and i don't know much about spinning stuff lol. TS2 will be better once this robot has tested the water so to speak so i would most probabily be upgrading the weapon motor in the next one aswell as other stuff- lol thats if any of this robot is re-usable after sept.

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects

It's going good thanks, I just added you on MSN but yeah, the robot is progressing nicely, main thing which still needs finishing is the drum which is still being machined... it's all done in 304 stainless with tool steel teeth. Couple of big brushless motors to spin it, thick (and I mean thick) titanium armour, and a couple of motors to move it around... pretty simpleminded machine really, but hopefully effective!

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects

lol yh, they look nice but dont going ripping them off during a fight because ill want them back:P

the drum belts arrived from technobots this morning along with the bearing that ill tension it with by putting it on a bolt-same thing as what jamies done with drumroll.

i don't care how long im in my shed for im going to get the drum mounted and working today ill try n get a video of me mabye hittin something that can be safley hit in a back garden later something made of wood mabye.

fingers crossed nothing goes massivly wrong

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects

i'm had a short break from robot stuff cos i was starvin so i though i might aswell upload a video of the drum spinning

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDqkInOGzhg

anyway im off to make some buffers to stop the drum sliding side to side and to cut the shaft down etc and all the rest, im hoping to have a hitting stuff test later but depends if theres time.

Re: Team Troubles Robot Projects

yh it came-----thanks

and no i've messed it up theres only so much you can do in a shed lol so im sending it to kenny to sort for me, i can spin it at about 200rpm- this is just me guessing from watching it btw lol and as i up the speed it starts vibrating badly, i've spent most of today trying to sort it out by tapeing defferent weights to the drum in certain place to get an idea of how bad it is but i've not succeeded so rather than me going crazy im going to send it to kenny, seeing as he has made several drums before he obviously knows what hes doing unlike me lol

although at the slow speed it was spinning at it still slices into HDPE nicley thou

Guess it shouldnt be a problem for you getting through the 5mm HDPE on savage evo. might be 8mm in places tho.
Id better get to bed. I got to get somthing done with evo tomorrow.
