There is an audience, just we are not involved with, or making any money from people entering the haynes motor museum where we'll be situated.

There wont be any money for the tag team champs, although we are working on getting some worthwhile prizes. As of yet we cant promise anything, which is why that is not currently advertised.

I dont really see a problem. Ill be happy to build one. Dont look at it as having to go to the trouble of building a power tool dragster just to take part in a Robo Challenge event. We are entering a PTDR event and the tag champs is a bit of fun on the side.
          Im looking forward to it.

Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!

            Hi Guys

just got back from a nice weekend away, nice to read this topic and see the different veiws. thanks for voicing them as we now get to understand everybodies oppinions.

Lets just make all clear so people understand exactly the situation and can then decide weather they wish to enter.

            - PTDR has been funded and run by Silverline tools for the past 4 years.
            - There are usally around 10-15 entries each year in the non ridden catagory. The best of them being ourselfves, John ried, His team mate nick & Ian Lewis.
            - Silverline made a decision last year that they want to invest and make this sport a 'big deal'.
            - We designed and built the new drag racing system for them.
            - We are contracted to run x amount of events and promote the sport to the roboteers specificly.
            - The event in september at the haynes motor museum is the biggest of the year and has lots of things to see including the PTDR. The gadget show filmed last year and will be making an entry again this year. We will be on TV

We thought what better way to attract roboteers to enter than to host an event there, plus we all get to have another full combat event! By doing this we will use up all our budget and will not make any money . We could quite happily just put a thread about it on the forum and hand some flyers out to you guys as we would make money and it would be a heck of a lot easier. However we thought you guys would love a nice 2 day event with camping especially when we chucked together our dragster in literally an hour. The stock catagory just needs the plug changing and a stabiliser!

This is The Silverline Power Tool Drag Racing event but weve managed to get our event in as a bonus. Ive twisted silverlines arm so they are paying for our hall hire aswell. Also im trying to get them to provided some tools for people that cannot afford to make a dragster, even though if you think, relitive to just the fuel to get there its cheap. Il keep you updated about this.

We cant afford to give away prize money for the Tag Team Champs as just hosting the event uses up all the budget. As jonno will know putting on events cost big bucksand lots of hard work. The prize money is provided by silverline & as stated, is for the PTDR.

            So a round up....

£10 and a couple of hours work gets you...

A weekend of full combat competition in a the Robo Challenge arena!
A weekend of power tool drag racing!
Prize money totaling £4k plus trophies!
Entry into the Haynes Motor Museum.

Thats a pretty good deal and i think silverline have been very generous to provided people with which such a great new oppertunity. As someone said earlier this isnt a complusery event like the FW champs, its because we enjoy full combat .... But if you would prefer us to print out some flyers do let me know...

Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!

...well...call me an unreformed caveman but my personal opinion is leaning slightly towards the flyers.

I accept your reasons for having this the way it is - I still do think it's a bit of a ridiculous sponsor request, but that's probably due to my na¯vet regarding how robot events work :P - but it still disappoints me greatly, there was nothing in the run up to the announcement to suggest that the drag racing would be a requirement to participate in the main event and it's probably partially my mistake for allowing myself to get excited over what would have been my first event before I knew what the entry requirements were.
I'd have gladly paid five or even ten times the entry fee in the interests of helping you guys to turn a profit and not having to tack it on to the racing, but...the drag racing is just not something that holds any interest for me I'm afraid, it's not really so much an issue of cost as it is of time and general 'botheredness' and as a result this whole affair has left a rather bitter aftertaste, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that.

...there's always Reading in October I guess though...good luck to everyone that goes, and I hope a good time is had by all, but I shall not be attending.

Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!

Oh, so its just £10 to enter both the racing and the champs?

Or £10 to enter the champs, and £10 for the drag-racing entry? (under the entry fees section on the PTDR rules page of your website)

I thought it was the latter at first, but since you've worded it £10 and a couple of hours work gets you etc, just thought I'd ask for clarification

And on the mention of camping, is there likely to be a dedicated campsite, or are there just several locations nearby?

                Thanks

Re: Robo Challenge Tag Team Champs & Power Tool Drag racing!

Sorry it has put you off Joey, It really isnt alot of work to change a plug on a belt sander and send it down the track. Its actually great fun aswell.

Must make this clear is that this is an event organised by silverline, the robots and drag racing organised by both ourselves and silverline. They are not mearly sponsoring it so it is very reasonable that if they are putting up so much prize money, paying for the hall, and giving us an oppertunity to host an event they arnt asking for much.

Yes Jamie £10 and a couple hours gets you all. its not £10 for each comp. Looking into the camping situation at the moment but will probably recommend the one we stay at.

i will read the ruls when i got time,
ok i got a few old cordless drills about, can i put 2 of them together, put a wheel on each chuck. with a couple of wheels on the front, plug in some 36v batts, and control it with radio gear. or do you have to use 240v?

think in the rules it says no radio gear can be used

Adrian, as alex said, you can't use radio controlled equiptment. You are allowed to use other powered tools other than 240v, but it has to by activated by 240 if you get what i mean.
                            So, for example,
You can turn on the drills using a 240v solenoid of some form. It needs to be this way as the timing equiptment runs off the instant the 240v supply is activated. If you dont use that, the timing will nort work, and reaction times will not be recorded etc.

I'll do some research on some 240v solenoids, or some other means of switching it on.
