hi guys, first update of 2007

raptors - registration is going well, still more invited though.

Feathers - we have a lot of very nice robots coming, we may need to put on special prizes for this class.

lightweights - surprisingly popular, even though our heaviest lightweight currently signed up is just under 14kg. this may be worth unofficially capping at 13.6kg to allow all you fat feathers to run legally (you know who you are ) unless I get request to the contrary.

middleweights - we need more signups please, only enough for one melees worth at the moment.

          heavyweights - looking very good.

arena - nothing has been done over christmas/new year, but it is coming along nicely. Definatly unique!

there will be updates on the website in february, until then Ill put all you need to know right here

James, can i enter one robot in more than one weight class? If so put Mr Happy in lightweights aswell as featherweights.

It Currently weighs 12.05kg, but i can add some hardox lids and run in the lightweight division aswell if allowed.

ive been asked this before actually.
In the interests of keeping it simple to follow, and keeping me sane (ish) id have to say no. sorry.

but why not enter the lightweights anyway? or enter an old retired bot in one, and mr happy in the other?

                Nevermind

I can confirm there will be a minimum prize fund of £250 for this event.
We havent decided how to allocate it yet though.

                  options?

5 weight classes, 5 prize funds of at least £50 each?

all cash for heavy? prizes for rest?

just heavy and feather (dont like that one)

what would you guys like (please dont say £250 per weight class, im working on that, but for now its the total in the pot)

or, what about prizes and trophies for each class winner, with the £250 going to the overall most entertaining/sporting robot/team of the event? sort of an outstanding contribution award? maybe split this over the 2 days?

just ideas, you guys tell me what you would like.

Hmm, Id personally opt to go with the £50 for each weight class, that way everyone is competing for an equal prize regardless of what weight class theyre entered in and there cant be any accusations of lack of support for the less populated weight groups.

James, a suggestion. Divide the money by the number of robots and split it into the 5 weights dependant on number of robots.

                        great idea Ed
Ill prob leave this decision to the last minute, as the fund will vary up to the last day.

the overall most entertaining/sporting robot/team of the event?

No. I thought it was a competition?

it is, but why do the same format every time?

the winners still get prizes, and trophies, I just thought it might be nice to have seperate awards for those who may not win, but contribute most?Or the most sporting? etc.

but anyway, if that is what people want Ill give the whole prize fund to winners only

Its your event, If you want to award prizes to those who you think contribute to the events sucess then do so. Remember MOST of us dont do this for any prize money, but for FUN of taking part in our hobby... Win or loose!

maybe i should offer more prizes instead then? maybe spend the prize fund on robot bits as prizes?

maybe a sidewinder as heavy prize, scorpion XL as feather etc.... or vouchers for my store or technobots?

                                what do you think?
