You€™re not wrong it had a massive 300cc engine only one cylinder. Many years ago I managed to fit 5 people in it! I did see on ebay a 50cc car made in Portugal It was Pig ugly but very small also there is a French company that made 50 cc cars in the 80s
about 10 years ago i had a secma funtech scootcar (french) which was a 50cc moped bolted onto a plastic body that has 2 wheels on the front, it was great fun and got looks everywhere i went in it, great in the summer, but it was so slow! i think now they are called qpods.
In Holland the Aixam is pretty popular since you only need a moped license to drive them. They were ment for disabled people but 16 year olds also have some interest in them.
But the sheer size, or lack of size rather, makes the P50 so funny. I could almost put it in my car as a spare car instead of a spare tire.
I wanted to make up a kit car that used a small motorbike engine say no bigger than 125cc but I could not find anything, with the €œeco blab€ these days I thought someone would make a kit car that would use a small IC engine or electric power. Dose anyone know of one like this????????
you can pick them up on ebay occassionally, a tidy newer one around 2002-2004 will cost about £1000-£1200,£600-800 for an older roadworthy one, or £3500 new i think, you can ride them on a cbt, with no helmet, £15 road tax, £300 insurance and about 60mpg, they did a 50cc 3 wheeler, 350cc 4 wheeler then 500cc kit cars which cost about £7000 new. only thing i would stress if you were going to buy one is that their is only 1 company in the uk that is a dealer, and if your buying new he is your best friend, but if you need replacement parts he isnt interested. you can buy direct from secma in france. mine i had years ago but they have never changed the design.
wish i kept mine it was a good laugh, probably a future collectors item as they are very rare. i never seen another one on the road.
I still think there should be a kit car company making a kit perhaps using the rear end of a motorbike that you can bolt on and drive, you could have electric reverse, and go cart steering if I carry on like this I might end up designing one!
How about wooden body panels I remember seeing a mini based kit they made 6 and 4 wheel versions that could have wood parts it was designed by the bloke who designed an Aston Martin.
