    Cage or no cage?

well well well, i go away for a few days, and look what happens.

Nice to see some healthy discussion about our cage

The only thing i will say, is that it it has changed the fight characteristics. I found myself having to think when fighting megga mouse at nottingham. Choose the right time to flip him, save gas, wait until we were near the flip out zone before firing. I loved it !!!

    A 10 second fight ..... never again !!

    Im reading with interest.

      Cage or no cage?

Cage or no cage? - Yes, it makes for some very interesting and entertaining fights. Well done to RR.

Thats a very valid point about the emergency cease sound you have there, Calum. Note to all EOs that have such a procedure - please include familiarisation in your pre-show roboteers meeting.

I have a lot of trouble seeing where I am driving in RRs arena due to the lighting - I dont have any such problem at Robots Lives events. The poor lighting on Saturday in the arena caused me to not be able to see the gap in the platform right close to the gate as it was already dark and in shadow. I slipped down the hole and badly bruised my leg.

As far as driving from the audience is concerned - I did it a couple of years ago at an XFM event by sitting in the audience and by sitting in the aisle. The audience certainly appreciated the interaction with someone whom they consider to be a tv star even though I never did Robot Wars. It makes no difference because either way you are still a performer and without those audiences who keep coming back, none of this would be possible so long after the last series of RW was made.

        Cage or no cage?

The only suggestion i would have is about caging on the side where the audience sit, as at the start of Nottingham, i sat at the side and i found it a bit hard to see.
Maybe have it covered with polycarb or something?

The caging was really designed for venues like maistone where it will come into its element.

The audience are on one bank of seating which is directly in front of the arena so there is no problems with viewing. They will get a good view of the flip out zone and the two projector screens.

Next year we will be planning the majority of shows to be the same.

cage.............Um.......Im not convinced. Flippers are great to watch so surely you want to encourage more. Just my warped view on things.

Good idea about having a special area for the roboteers. Owen had some difficulty getting a good view as he is only little. My own concern is Owen needs an adult supervising him when he is driving Little Devil as he would not be able to understand if a cease was called and I am still trying to explain to him about the safety measures. So I would need to be with him unfortunately that means another body in the area.
Owen enjoyed Little Devil being flipped and would quite happily have that happen all the time so he would say yes to the cage.
