  • Re: Gimson Robotics

I'll certainly look into the freewheel mounts - for the front section of the gearbox, second bearing with housing plus shaft you'd be looking at around £12. I've got lots of other work on at the moment though so can't promise this as a product option any time too soon.

Gary, I am somewhat reluctant to sell the gearbox housing separately as it doesn't fit all small drill motor ring gears (most I've used in the past have a larger outer diameter and simply wouldn't fit the mounts without re-cutting), nor does the motor mount fit all 550 motors without increasing the central bore. There comes a point when I can be offering too many product options and if they're not all compatible with one-another then there'll be problems. So maybe in future, not for now.

      Hi Ewan

      http://www.technobotsonline.com/bear...ng-blocks.html

The bearings from Technobots (link above) come in at £10 so around £12 for the mounts with shaft would seem reasonable. I think no one would think this too expensive.

I agree, that sort of price point seems good

I would like to point out the free wheel hub is just an idea,
and Ewan dose not have to follow through or even comment on it.
I don't want to railroad anyone into doing anything they don't want to do, or don't have time to at the moment.
We must not forget, Gimson robotics is Ewan's business,

The hubs will be reasonably priced when they're available! :P

Still contemplating buying some shafts and bearings to make up some freewheel mounts
Might order some shafts to have a play with

Out of interest how much do the GR02s weigh? I can't seem to find it any where. Thanks

Weight: 440g (excluding optional leads and fixings)

Awesome thanks! That's brilliant! Lucky it's lighter than planned!

Do you think 24v gimson motors with 36:1 gearboxes will be ok with 150mm wheels?

I shouldn't see why not. All metal gears so the gearboxes should be fine. Might get a bit hot at the end of a battle but I can't see it being an issue

You should be OK, make sure the wheel doesn't overhang the shaft too much though, or if it does make sure you add some more support.

The high force GLA6000 model actuators are now reduced to clear, these would make a decent drive for a heavyweight self-righter or perhaps a featherweight grabbing/crushing arm when run at 24V or higher.
