Here we are, half way through the quarter finals, and we move into Unimmediate Peril.

This is the first time Andy€™s been beyond round 2 in this tournament, but with Wedga Revo he€™s beaten some good machines to get this far. Veg 2 was the first victim to be launched into the camera track, then the very dangerous Archangel of the Abyss was rolled into the Moat. Many thought Wedga couldn€™t do it against Dervish in the last €˜bot standing arena, but the Barberous machine was flipped until it broke down.

Seggy the 3rd beat Flipping Hell easily enough in its heat, as the powerful Flipping Hell destroyed itself self righting. The Doomsday Project looked altogether tougher, but once again a too powerful weapon gave Seggy the edge, as the fearsome flywheel soon broke down. Battle Raptor was next, which fell down a pit in the Roulette arena. Seggy is using the skirts and drum for this battle.

Wedga shoots forwards quickly. Seggy is slower to start off, and Dave is made to regret this as Wedga slams under the drum, stalling it before it can reach a dangerous speed and flipping Seggy up! Seggy crashes down and bounces, and Wedga is under Seggy again as it bounces, driving the sixth seed to the wall, Andy€™s intentions very clear here! The flipper fires and Seggy is launched over the wall, and smack bang into an arena light!

Well yet another seed bites the dust in a blink and miss it match up. Seggy the 3rd had better have someone to inherit the title, the Wedga Revo-loution is here!

This last quarter final is taking place in the last €˜bot standing arena, and now it€™s about more than getting the last semi final spot. It€™s about the pride of being the last seed remaining.

The Deer is the higher seed for this fight. It beat PRP without too much trouble, but suffered damage from Hefty Kick in the Balls before it managed to break first the weapon and then the robot. Its round 2 match against V€™Ger was deadlocked for much of the fight, but The Deer just managed to squeeze it with the judges help.

Going Crunch also used the judges against Beta, winning easily due to Beta not being effective on a wooden surface and putting my lovely arena out of commission for a while. Panicking was a tougher proposition, but fell to some good cluster €˜bot teamwork for the second time in its NSBFL career. Stratos-Fear was next, and despite Crunch being annihilated, the massive full body flipper was sent into the moat. And yes, I€™m afraid I am going to do a size doesn€™t matter joke here. Live with it.

Going Crunch splits up immediately and head for The Deer in a pincher attack. The Deer turns and heads straight for Crunch, getting the spinner between the pinchers. Things turn belly up from there for Martyn, as the claws don€™t get into the body of Crunch and instead scrape over the top. Like The Deer was too low for PRP to attack, it looks Going Crunch is too lower for The Deer to grip! Crunch drives forwards and smacks the front of The Deer, not causing much damage. Crunch can€™t seem to escape the cuddle hold The Deer has on it though.

But what of Going while all this has been going on? Well Going got around to the rear of The Deer while it was trying to crunch into Crunch and was trying to ram under the rear skirt, with little success. Failing all that, it gets under the pincher of The Deer and flips, bouncing the larger machine up and freeing Crunch. The Deer turns its attentions onto Going now, but The Deer can€™t grip onto that either. Going gets under the front of The Deer and flips, bouncing it up and driving underneath. Crunch backs off, and for some reason Going isn€™t flipping.

The Deer is suddenly bounced up again, but only slightly. Going seems to be stuck under there, and we can see Co2 escaping. The Deer bounces up again, but nowhere near enough to free it from on top of Going. The claws open and shut, but The Deer can€™t get free! Martyn looks pissed off here, and who can blame him? The Deer is counted out along with Going. When examined later, it turns out that Going€™s pneumatic pipe wasn€™t attached properly, and had been suffering a Co2 leak for the duration of the fight.

It had some good victories over tough opponents, but The Deer€™s quest for the trophy ends on a rather lame note. Going Crunch is now the highest surviving seed.

Coming up next are the Featherweight melees. The draw is:

Pillow Torque vs Hells Angel vs Scorpion Junior - last bot standing

TREADTHAL vs Storm Vortex vs Micro Monsoon - The Moat

Overdrive vs Sparkstorm vs Maximum Velocity - Last bot standing

Combat Raptor vs Blue vs Alpha 1 - Classic

And to stop people asking me about it, the semi final draw is:

        MORD vs Going Crunch
Annoying Box Rush vs Wedga Revo

Nice action packed fights, Frank! Before I get to work on repairing MORD (impressed with how its doing by the way - cant wait to see how MORD2 will perform in NSBFL, here are my tictacs. (throws a box of tictacs to Frank) And now, here are my tactics.

It appears Going Crunch is a clusterbot with one half a spinner and the other a flipper (correct me if Im wrong). MORD will begin with its plow down trying to ram the spinner and flip it over, attempting to do so with the disc if the plow gets battered. It will have to try and twist to avoid the flipper, and will attack it with the plow and disc once the spinners been eliminated somehow (will try to do this quickly if the arena allows me to) or if Ive just beaten it up for a bit.

Combat Raptor will attack Blue first, going for its sides away from the hammer and carrying and ramming it around with the arm. It will have a go at Alpha if Alpha attacks, trying to lift it as well, and maybe turn it on its side.

            Whoa! Good fight Dave!

Overdrive vs Sparkstorm vs Maximum Velocity

I think Ive probably posted tactics for this before, if not, just ram either of them around.

Annoying Box Rush vs Wedga Revo

Ill come up with a plan when I can be bothered.

Yes, but Im planning defensive stratagies too. The obvious one being it will find it hard getting under the big skirts. They arent SpinVerter, but they should do alright. :P

Micro Monsoon VS Storm Vortex VS T.R.E.D.T.H.A.L.

Wow. Im buggered in every single catagory now. NSBFL record, maybe?
My plan (what little there is) is to stick with Storm Vortex, maybe flipping it around to disorientate it, then pinning trying to use the tracks to shove it out before the disc gets some good blows in. Same with Monsoon.

Come NSBFL8, you will all pay.

I have 44 flips, according to that flipper calculator, and can lift 376kg at the tip. This means that robots will fly two feet in the air. What I intend to do is flip around madly at the start and try and get someone stuck against the wall. I hate this arena, too. After a while Ill slow down and play it defensive, having used about 20 flips.

Ill let Overdrive take on Sparkstorm, by subtley running away, then later Ill come up and either flip them against the wall or outlast them in battery power. My wedge is grinded thin, so Im sure it can get under either of the two opponents. If I get flipped, Ill try to keep enough CO2 at all times so I can selfright.

                          Tictacs:

Axe Scorpion Jnr to death before that disc can do any damage (its a low shape, perfect for my scoop and axe combo). Pillow Torque, dunno much about.

I better get that pneumatic pipe fixed on properly *glares at some random teammate whose job is now making sure the pipe is fixed on*

Is the flywheel horizontal or vertical? If its horizontal, im not that worried as it should go over me and even if it doesnt, should only hit the top area, if its vertical however, i better stay away from it.

My main strength, as usual, is that he can only focus on one bot at a time, i will try and keep both away from the front if i can, but both will be looking to attack at the same time. If he gets rid of one piece, might well be over quuickly after what happened to 360 so hopefully, i can get rid of him with both pieces intact or as soon as the one goes. If the scoop is down, i cannot let him keep his attention fully on one bot for any length of time, if he does manage to stack one, however, the other can help out.

I seem to have luck beeching my opponents, so i might well be able to do that again some time during the fight.

With the quarter finals done, we€™ve got one last batch of other-weight melees before the serious business of crowning our champions can get underway. This time around, it€™s the ferocious featherweights! Our first melee takes place in Last €˜Bot Standing.

Pillow Torque is our first entry, but don€™t let the paint-job, simple design and bat-sh*t crazy team fool you, it can shove with the best of them, and its Ti armour should be more than a match for any pain coming its way. However, no wedge means its pushing could be compromised, and it can also be left on its side.

Hell€™s Angel is the only vapour €˜bot for this melee. With its scoop and axe combo reminiscent of big brother Hell Machine, this could do well, especially as the axe is powerful. But Dave has concerns about the armour€™s durability against the bigger damagers out there.

Scorpion Junior is the last robot in the melee. Although not as widely known as Storm Vortex, it€™s equally as fearsome, and even more worrying is that unlike Storm, this has an answer to those annoying flippers as it is invertible. The pushing isn€™t the best though, so anyone able to get past the disc could take the sting out of the scorpion.

                                3€¦

Pillow Torque and Hell€™s Angel are off to a quick start, with Hell€™s Angel going for Scorpion Junior! It seems Dave shares that all too common human trait of trying to destroy things he€™s afraid of, as Hell€™s Angel slams the scoop under Scorpion Junior€™s side, and starts mashing down with the axe. Then Pillow Torque slams in on Hell€™s Angel, pushing it as it pushes Scorpion Junior as it pushes nothing!

Hells Angel is pushed away from Scorpion Junior by Pillow Torque, only for Pillow Torque to get clipped with the flywheel with a loud cracking noise and a shower of sparks! Furious with this attack on the paint job, Pillow Torque goes after Scorpion Junior and shoves it backwards into the wall, but then Hell€™s Angel comes in from behind Pillow Torque and shoves it into the disc of Scorpion Junior, bouncing it away!

Hell€™s Angel starts wailing away at the top of Scorpion Junior again, but not doing much visible damage. Pillow Torque comes in again and pushes Hell€™s Angel away, only for Scorpion Junior to attack Pillow Torque from the rear again! Pillow Torque is bounced upwards then shoved backwards by Hell€™s Angel into the disc again, being knocked up, over and onto its side!

Hells Angel comes in on Scorpion Juniour, bumping into Pillow Torque and knocking it back into the fight as it does so, and again starts smashing in on Scorpion Junior! The axe goes dangerously near the right wheel as Scorpion Junior turns to attack Hells Angel. Hells Angel avoids this, but gets pushed into the disc by a returning Pillow Torque! Hells Angel is bounced away, and the armour seems to have withstood the blow. Scorpion Junior moves in to attack Pillow Torque, but that right wheel seems to have locked up, and Scorpion Junior is going in circles!

Pillow Torque goes for Scorpion Junior and pushes it into the corner, reducing its mobility even more, as getting it out of the corner turns into a game like parking your car in a crowded car park using tiny movements to wiggle it one way and another. With the spinner out of the fight for the moment, Hell€™s Angel goes for Pillow Torque, but Pillow Torque avoids Hells Angel€™s front, spins around and shuts Hells Angel sideways into the wall!

Hell€™s Angel turns around, bumping into the wall a couple of times as it does so and manages to get under Pillow Torque€™s front, and again the axe comes into life hammering on Pillow Torques top once, twice, thrice until it abruptly stops working! Pillow Torque can€™t take advantage though, because now Hells Angel is pushing it backwards, taking advantage of its scoop-less front to shove it around!

Meanwhile, Scorpion Junior has gotten out of its corner, but can€™t get back in the action with only one working wheel. The remote is turned off with resignation as Scorpion Junior effectively throws in the towel, and is counted out! Meanwhile Dave has found a solution to Pillow Torque. Pushing it into the wall slowly, the box-ey machine rides up the scoop and is proper on its rear end! With no house robots to knock it down, Pillow Torque is also counted out!

Scorpion Junior counted out, pickled in whiskey then chatted about briefly on the Randomness thread. Pillow Torque wakes up to find that the fit guy from last night ain€™t so fit. Hells Angel ascends to the featherweight final!
