        Dinowarrior Destruction

You wont question anything eh...? In that case I enter...

        Name: Kustom

        Shape: Invertible box

        Speed: 20 MPH

Weapon: A front drum, spinning at 5000 RPM using a customised motor and drive train to give it near instant acceleration, and shelling out 100 KJ€™s of energy on impact thanks to the customise design of the drum.

Armour: 3 MM of a customised alloy, which is lighter than Polycarb but can take well in excess of 200 KJ€™s of energy before even denting!

Drive: 4-wheel drive running off a customised drive-train, providing it with 30 HP

GC: 0 all over thanks to customised skirts, which will not be gotten under by ANYTHING. The only reason this can move is because it has such a powerful drive.

        Strengths: Everything is customised

Weaknesses: Design totally takes the piss.

                            6 vapourbots -

To ease making large list of robots pre draw
                            1 - Hurricane
                            2 - ALVD
                            3 - The Wedge

                            5 - Wedgie 3d
                            6 - WAFT(sw)

                            Now for stats -

                            1 -
                            Hurricane

Team - Emma is the driver, Steve is the engineer, and Dave is on the weapons
Mass - 100.2 kg at the end of the fight, 103.2 Kg at the start of the fight (3 kg worth of petrol on board)
Weapons - If an active-weapon rule is in place, the robot will have a Tornado style flail imbedded within the wedge to get tyres and tracks. The flail is two chains with little spikes at the end, it runs, and the gyroscopic effects push the chains out, so it is like a spinning bar. When it hits the chains come back so it can take force. The window wiper motor is from an Audi 100, and with a new chip in its brains, can be worked to about 4000 rpm. The flail itself weighs 500 grams and so shouldn€™t be that damaging, except for underside tyre ripping
Can it self-right: The robot is invertible, it can not land on it€™s rear, if it does the mass of the engine will tip it back onto the wheels.
Speed ~ Due to the gearing in first gear the speed is 6 mph, in second gear the speed is 14 mph, but it gets there within half a metre of moving and in third gear it is a cool 40 mph, but we only take it up to a maximum of about 20 mph in third gear if it changes. It does 14 mph in reverse .
Turning - To turn this wedge, a brake is applied to one of the drive axles, as they share a common axle, spilt with a limited slip differential. This allows a turning circle of 29mm, which isn€™t the end of the world, as we can turn quickly.
Ground clearance - At the front it is dead zero, the sides and rear it ranges from 1mm to 2 cm.
Wheel Type - 2 wheel drive, these wheels are go-kart wheels, solid. There are 2 wheels on each half of the axle, cylinder length 97 mm, connected together with a 3mm plate, giving 197mm. These give excellent traction on all surfaces.
Drive Motors - The motor is a simple 7 kg super-charged custom-built rotary engine (150cc). The engine has 3 gears and changes though them automatically, the first gear is a large ratio something like 20:1 this is used to push things with and not in the main driving. The second gear is the starting off gear and gets to the top speed quickly because of the 5:1 gear ratio. The top gear is used when cruising; it has little pushing ability as the ratio is something like 2:1. The gearbox is connected directly to the rotor shaft, and the gearbox is connected direct to a limited slip differential to give the power to both wheels. The engine is at the front to stop wheelies, the fuel tanks are in an easy to reach place, on the front, the engine is mounted sideways so it doesnt matter which was the robot is facing. To stop the fuel draining out, the racing style fuel-tanks are designed to be tipped at all angles. The super charger feeding fuel and air into the single cylinder with the rotor, there is a 1 horsepower starter motor to starts the engine up if it stops, inside the engine is 2 spark plugs and the exhaust is at the top of the robot, which is just an exhaust. To reverse, the gearbox has a reserve gear which turns eventually (0.4 seconds) turns the drive shaft in reverse with a ratio of 5:1.
The main drive chain is from a 150cc go-kart, being run in this season, where I work at weekends. (Marshal). The shafts have been shorten to prevent them being bent. Other than that, the engine is enclosed into a cylinder to protect it from the combustions in that third. The length of the main engine without gearbox is 334 mm; the diameter of the cylinder is 312 mm. The main rotor shaft outtake has a diameter of 60mm. The gearbox is a box, and is the standard gearbox, length 200mm, width and height both 100 mm. The main shaft from the gearbox is the same diameter as the main rotor shaft, and plugs into the differential, with a length of 34 mm. The engine runs along the bottom of the robot. The engine is mounted onto a special sprung cage to absorb most of the turning force. The entire drive chain can safety move back and forward 60mm.
Fuel - The robot carries 3 kg of fuel, which will last about 15 minutes of fighting, once the fuel has run out, we cam use the starter motor to get the power down.
Body Shape: Invertible wedge with a scoped rear.
Armour - Front wedge is solid 6mm Hardox, the rear is 6mm titanium and the top, and base of the wedge is the same as the back plate. The sides are different, a 6mm layer of aluminium, covering a 3mm layer of carbon-proof titanium, with redundant attachments to protect the wheels to protect them from the ever-growing number of spinners. These attachments are designed to be ripped off without damaging the drive chain. Around the corners, where the armour is bolted to the steel chassis, these are covered in a 1mm layer of aluminium, brushed, and held on by screws. This will stop spinners ripping off the entire panel.
Colour: The robot is lightly sprayed blue.
Batteries - The go-karts use a 6 volt sealed lead battery with low initial resistance, as the starter motor has 3 second blasts in spinning the rotor, in trying to get it to self-turn with the momentum. To recharge it, a belt is run from the gearbox to a generator.
Safety Features - Ok, with the fuel I am not saying it is legal in robot wars (stupid 150 ml fuel rule) but the power-link is located underneath a sliding door in the back, the door is designed to take hits and adds another 6mm of titanium for a spinner to get rid off. The fuel tanks are easy to get out of the robot, and in like I said before are racing spec, so that they are very hard to rip open. Other safety features is that in the pits, there is a cradle to store the robot on to turn the wheels, the flail is covered with a piece of 10mm aluminium bolted onto the front, removed before the fights.
Summary - A basic pushy robot. Thanks to Nick for helping me with designing this robot.
Strengths - 50 horsepower total, can last until it runs out of fuel (15 minutes), lovely low front wedge.
                            Weaknesses - Nervous driver

                            2 -
                            ALVD

Roboteers name - Driver is Dave, the person working the weapon is my sister, Emma, and the engineer is my eldest brother, Steve.
Mass of the robot - 102 kg at start (2 kg of fuel)
Top Speed - The speed has been tuned down from the original for better control and acceleration, therefore it is now 5 metres per second, getting to the speed in about 1.2 seconds.
Turning Circle - Dead Zero, as it is basically an Axlebot rear end.
Ground Clearance: As there are no skirts to save weight, the ground clearance at the front is 0mm because of the scoop. The rear is 2cm and the sides are 1cm.
Armour/chassis - The chassis is made out of 20mm steel bars and is tough enough to restand the recoil from the disc. The armour is only 2mm tougher aluminium.
Weapons - The main weapon is a vertical disc that weighs 10 kg and can run either way. The motor is a simple 7 kg super-charged custom-built rotary engine (150cc). The engine has 3 gears, the first is at the start and turns the flywheel from rest to 1000 rpm, the second gear gets the flywheel from 600 rpm to 3000 rpm, and the third gear gets the flywheel turning at 5000 rpm. The engine at this time is turning at 8000 rpm (out of 12000 rpm). To get the weapon up-to speeds it takes 2.23 seconds to swap into top gear, and a further 1.43 seconds to reach it€™s maximum speed, the super charger feeding fuel and air into the single cylinder with the rotor. The connection between the engine and the flywheel is by the 3 kg heavy-duty rotor shaft leading to a gearbox, which via another 3 kg shaft to the weapon. There is a 1 horsepower starter motor to starts the engine up if it stops, inside the engine is 2 spark plugs and the exhaust is at the top of the robot, which is just an exhaust. It spins in reverse. The entire disc unit can be taken out and a ramming spike can be used.
Srimech - The robot is invertible, but I don€™t like running upside down for long, so I will put on full power and wheelie the robot back onto the right side.
Body - This is the major different, the rear is still the concave wedge, but the front is now a curve with the wheels sticking out. To stop wheelies there is a 20cm long titanium strip at the rear with a bolt on the end.
Wheel motor type - The drive is 2-wheel drive with 2 steering wheels at the front, and is driven by two chipped wheelchair motors at 6 volts and with shafts and limited slip differentials. The front two steering wheels can turn to a maximum of 60 degree because of the car steering; both can turn at different angles thanks to the London taxi arms. An Electric window motor at 6 volts (sound familiar) turns each wheel. There are two sets of turning wheels, one set being at the top of the wedge.
Batteries - The entire robot is 6 volts. The batteries are packs of 30 3Ah Sanyo NiCad Cells. 2 packs are used to give a bit more than needed.
Summary - A wheeled version of CFYU
Colour - It is unpainted to save weight.
Strengths - The disc, speed, 20 horsepower per wheel
Weaknesses - The front is open to attacks.

                            Masses -
10 kg - Disc with teeth
15 kg - Everything to do with the engine apart from the shafts
                            6 kg - Shafts
                            20 kg - Chassis + armour
                            2 kg - Electrics
                            5 kg - front scoop
32 kg - Complete drive (batteries, motors, shafts etc)
                            10 kg - 6 wheels
                            2 kg - petrol

Total - 102 kg, as petrol counts as a consumable, 100 kg.

                            3 -
                            The Wedge

The theory behind the robot€™s name - The original wedge was one of my first ever vapourbots. In an area where I can€™t pick up a new name, so I will use one of my old robots. The name gives the game away. No it isn€™t a box.
The Team Roles - Emma is the driver, Dave operators the flipper and Steve is the engineer to mend the robot in the pits. In all we make up team new age.
Body Shape - The shape of this robot is a semi-invertible wedge, the two rear driven wheels are out of the back, like Tough as Nails, to give no rear overhang for use on ramps, and removing from arena walls.
Chassis - The chassis is 20mm steel bars; MIG welded, and strengthen by triangles. The rear tail starts as 20mm steel, but at the end comes down to 2mm.
Armour - The armour is fully removable for easy access. The sides are 4mm aluminium covered in a layer of duroplast (a compound used on East German car bodies). The top and bottom are 6mm aluminium. The rear armour between the wheels is just 2mm aluminium, as the bars protect the rear. There is a front scoop of 3mm Hardox, designed to get underneath robots.
Weapons - Mainly a flipper, but before a fight we can change the direction of the flipper by using a modular setup. In total it takes about 15 minutes of €œTime€ to change the bolts, and turn the base of the ram to the other position. Everything is bolted down, so nothing should shack loose. The flipper itself is noting special, 2 rams, at 400 psi (giving the same effect as 800 psi).
Ground Clearance - Front is a Firestorm style steel blade running close to the floor. Some robots can get underneath it as it is not perfect, but it should be lower than most of the wedges currently in vapourbot land. The sides are 4mm raising to 32mm at the rear. The bars are about 0.02 metres of the ground.
Self-righter - The flipper acts as a self-righter, only if it flips down. If for some reason the flipper isn€™t working, the robot is an efficient wedge. It runs upside down, and the front runs along the floor.
Wheels - It is 2 wheel drives, with a gyro. On the front is a little ball bearing to hold the front up. As I have already said, the wheels are at the rear, before the wheelie bars.
                            Turning Circle - Zero
Motors - Two Bosch 750€™s overrun to 30 volts, giving I think about 2.3 horsepower each. Geared down 17.1:1 via a double chain drive, protected within a steel bar (like Biohazard)
Wheel details - Two wheels, steel rim, and interchangeable rubber compounds for different arenas (soft, medium, wet, dry, hard etc). The other wheels can be changed for the steel rubbers, have traction pads glued onto them like WAFL and traction engines. If the rubber part is ripped off, the robot can run on the rims, but not that good.
Wheelie Bar - The bar is removable for fights, in which the robot doesn€™t have a weapon to remove my little wheels.
Safety - The power link is between the wheels, in a place which is impossible to get too without removing the wheelie bars. However the link can be removed by hand, and is exposed. However a Dantomkia style bar prevents the link from falling out.
Co2 - 4kg of co2 is used. The tanks are balanced towards the front to aid in the wheelies. I have about 60 flips at 400 psi, flipping 210 kg when the robot is at the extreme distance. This preventing 360€™s when self-righting.
Velocity - I am going for control over velocity, so I am stating 4ms-1 (~10 mph). The gearing gives 4 ms-2, in terms of acceleration.
Colour - The robot is painted with the team€™s logo on the sides. The word TOP is painted onto the top and the word BOTTOM on the bottom. The background is black.
Strengths - The flipper, the driver, acceleration.
Weaknesses - weak armour, slow, uses Old School Boschs instead of the latest LEMs

                            4 -
                            Chalkie

The Team Members - Emma is the driver, Dave operates the forks, and Steve is the engineer.
                            Mass - 100 kg
Weapons - The main weapon is a invertible forks, powered by a linear actuator, the forks are to be used to lift robots up and find gaps with the 3 spikes and the heavy duty hinge.
                            Velocity - 15 mph
Wheels - 8 wheel drive, solid Titanium Spiked wheels at 3 Diameter, only 4 wheels are on the ground at one time (4 are on the bottom and 4 are on the top). The motors are 3, CIM2 Motors, like on Big Nipper.
Dimensions - 66cm wide, 66cm long (excluding forks), 15cm High.
Armour - 5mm plasma nitride Titanium sides with 10mm Ribs, 6mm elsewhere, Ally bolted chassis 25-30mm which is full of holes. We enter into the arena with a layer of 0.5mm coloured lexan to try to stop carbon tipped weapons.
Batteries - NiCad€™s, the drive has 28.8V, which gives 4.8Ah, the weapon has 36V and 2.4Ah, and the other electrics have 4.8 volts.
Speed Controller - We have 3, 4QD pro 120Amps Speed controllers, with a microcontroller mixer board and an electronic clutch for the weapon.
Shape - Invertible box with rear spikes. Think SEGv2 shape.
Summary - It has a piano wire aerial and it is designed to be basic. Frank gave its name.
Strengths - Low centre of mass, 8 wheel drive, very tough.
                            Weaknesses - Diamonds

                            5 -
                            Wedgie 3d

Roboteer€™s name - Driver is Dave, the person working the weapon is my sister, Emma, and the engineer is my eldest brother, Steve.
                            Mass - 100.001 Kg
                            Dimensions -
€ Length - the robot€™s length is 632 mm, but with the front flipper hanging out this increases up to 800mm
€ Width - The tip of both side rollover cages reach 402mm. The width of the main machine is 298mm.
€ Height - When the flipper is up, the height is 921mm. Flipper down and from the highest point on the wedge the height is 574mm
Armour/chassis - The robot is a 4mm Hardox monocoque, so crusher resistance. The chassis is enforced with 18mm steel triangles giving a very tough little robot.
Weapon 1 - A backward hinged LP flipper running at 145 psi (10 bars) using an 80mm ram giving about 30 big flips per fight, then it will run on for a long time for self-righting reasons. There is a 2L buffer tank, so it can fire once or twice without the buffer being needed to be fast fed (it will work faster!). These buffer tanks are right at the front of the wedge to stop the front lifting when moving. The flipper is hinged right at the top of the wedge to self-right the robot. At the front of the wedge, the flipper plate widens and runs along the ground, this piece is 2mm steel and is pointed at the front, and it is designed to get underneath full bodied spinners and skirts. However this may get damaged during the fight. The flipper is made from 18mm steel bar, reinforced with triangles and covered in a 4mm sheet of Aluminium on the top only. The steel is welded together and the cover is bolted onto the steel frame. The hinges are underneath the flipper and to stop pesky axes, the protection is a lump of 5mm steel covering the heavy duty hinge. The ram is covered by a secured net which rises with the flipper. This net can be removed if the rules state that it€™s illegal.
Weapon two - A 5mm Hardox front scoop, this has 2 purposes, to hold the front down and to protect the buffer tanks from axes and spinners.
Shape - Low Wedge, rounded back to self-right the robot. Rollover bars on the sides to stop it landing on its side.
Power-link position - I though I better put this in, the power-link is underneath a 5mm titanium door on the wedge located left to the flipper.
Wheel type - 2-wheel drive, using C40-500 MagMotor, on 36 volts with a 12:1 gearing system, the wheels are 200mm and made out of Volcalone rubber, giving grip. There is a small ball bearing at the front, which makes the front move.
Batteries - The robot is run by 3 packs of 3000mAh NiCDs @ 36 volts. This gives 9 Amps to get though the full 5 minutes of a fight.
Safety - The Co2 tank is located behind the wheels, and is easy to reach, the dump value is located near the bottom and the co2 is dumped out of the back at an angle which will not do any damage. The value is heavy duty and to reach it, you need to remove the power link to put your arm to turn it. On the other hand the value will automatic come if the pressure inside the tank gets above 200 psi. There are failsafe lights located on the side of the machine in view of everyone, which tell the ground staff if the robot is active (all 5 lights are on). Inside the robot there is a plug and computer software tells the engineer if there is something wrong with the electrics.
Ground Clearance- At front zero, its 1 cm at the rear, and 5mm at the sides to allow for fast turning and with this in mind€¦
Turning Circle - Because of the ground clearance at the back, and the 2 wheel drive chassis this robot can turn on the spot. This could be a weapon against pushers, once spinning the front will lift because of the gyroscopic forces and it will become a full bodied spinner.
Speed - The robot can travel at a top speed of 24 mph and gets to this top speed in about 2 seconds. However unlike other fast robots the gearing allows the robot to slow down and push at a slower rate.
Colour - It is blue, the paint is about 2mm thick and has thin threads in the paint to stop some spinners ripping the pieces off.
Summary - Thanks to Mr Aaron Knight for helping me which this robot. I had been in theory driving this robot for a long time in the practise arena. If I forgotten anything with the stats please tell me.

If the rules request them, strengths are
€ The speed of the machine
                            € Basically crusher resistance
                            € The flipper is long-lasting
                            € The turning ability
€ The anti-skirt and anti FBS flipper blade

                            Weaknesses can include
€ Against high energy full bodied spinners it can be painful
                            € The pit
                            € The camera track
€ Any of Frank€™s robots (worse is that horrible Kustom)
                            € Super Spin Dash 4
€ People not reading the stats properly

                            6 -

                            WAFT

Full Name - We All Face the Same Way (it takes all day)
                            Mass - about 99.5 kg
Weapon -The main weapon on WAFT is the crusher, powered by hydraulics at 2500 psi. Picture 2 shows the linkage to the ram. The crusher can get down in 5 seconds flat because of the linkage. WAFT has also twin self-righter like on Wedgie; these are based into the robot and powered by a windscreen wiper motor on 12 volts. The rear spike as shown in picture 1 is just used for three purposes, 1 to put a mug of coffee on in the pits and two to ram into robots in case the crusher breaks, and thirdly so that the robot when flipped does not end up on its back, because it can not get balanced on it€™s back without the self-righter getting grip on the floor.
Shape - As shown in picture 1, the shape is a long low wedge with a box end. The back is rounded with a spiked section on the rear. The front has a Hardox strip to aid getting underneath over robots.
Drive - The drive is 2-wheel drive with 2 steering wheels at the front, the drive is shown in picture 3, and is driven by two Bosch 750€™s at 36 volts and with shafts and limited slip differentials. The front two steering wheels can turn to a maximum of 60 degree because of the car steering; both can turn at different angles thanks to the London taxi arms. An Electric window motor at 6 volts (sound familiar) turns each wheel and the steering is shown in picture 4.
Armour - Because of the drive and weapons the armour has been taken down, the outer armour is 3mm Ti/V alloy on top of the wedge and 5mm Ti/V on the sides and bottom. The chassis is made of 20mm steel bar section with triangular strengths.
Ground Clearance -The front is dead zero nothing can get underneath it. The sides and rear is 3mm, and there are no skirts to stop turning
Turning Circle -Because of the car style turning, this robot can turn a 360-degree turn on the spot thanks to the 4 wheels. It is like a 2 wheel drive Axlebot with a large front.
Velocity - This is the cool part, because of the shafts and motors, this robot can travel at 28 mph and turn. It gets to its top speed in 2 seconds, giving an acceleration of a cool 7 m/s/s.
Skirts - No skirts around the rear or sides.
Wheel Type - The rear wheels has special rubber pads around the outside to give buckets of grip, if grip comes in buckets. The front wheels are more spheres with fixed metal plates fixed to them to give the better turning.
Colour: The robot is an unpainted to save that little bit of weight.
Dimensions: Length is 637mm from tip of spike to wedge. The width is 302mm in the widest point. The height of WAFT from the top to bottom is 305mm. All the motors and electrics can be removed within 10 minutes because the whole robot is very low tech. This means that damage can always be fixed and if the rules allow, interchangeable weapons to be put in place.
Summary - I needed a crusher robot, and so after much though in the library at college drawn a proto-type and using the strengths from SEGv and Wedgie, managed to get this ultra-tough robot. This robot will be the base for my new modular robot coming soon.
Strengths - Crusher, speed, size, unpainted so it could be hard to see in a grey coloured arena. Will always self-right
Weaknesses - Unpainted so it could be hard to see in a grey coloured arena, slow crusher, very low tech.
Random Fact - Team New Age€™s first crusher since the Drusher series. Movie star do not know where you are.
