Re: Mechanical Maelstrom: Annihilation
After over a year of competition, we€™re finally at the last heat annihilator :P So it€™s about time this tournament got finished eh? Let€™s get one step closer.
From Enschede in the Netherlands, representing Team Varying Everyday, ranked #16, Back to Rock III!
This big Behemoth-shaped machine showed in Season 2.0 it€™s a force to be reckoned with. It ploughed through the first round with ease, taking out the then third seed Spin Dash Unleashed and allowing Autism 3.0 to deal with Nidhogg Evo. Things didn€™t go so well in Round 2 against The Zodiac, but the titanium armour is all repaired now and BTRIII is back to wreak more havoc. The lifting scoop has a pussycat-style saw blade built into it to cause damage to tyres and weak base armours and the lynch motor drive provides plenty of push, but does the 6WD make it too unmanoeuvrable?
From Glasgow in Scotland, representing Team Braveheart, Venus Flytrap II!
This robot is like nothing you€™ve seen before. A box with wedges on all sides, this machine packs two clamps on either side. They€™ve got some Mute-style barbs to ensnare opponents and there€™s a self-righting arm in the middle too, so don€™t try and flip this bot to eliminate it. The 3.75mm thick hardox armour should be thick enough to keep most weapons out, but we€™re not liking the look of that 10mm ground clearance.
From Onehouse in Suffolk, representing Team Dinowarrior, Spring-BOK!
Essentially Mute without its barbs and fur in its place, this robot has a pneumatically powered flipper just to mislead you from the spring in its name. The front hinged flipper that forms the main weapon will provide the OOTAing power and the Mute-style gymnastics when the robot€™s turned over, and it also has a rear hinged flipper for some extra protection. However, we doubt the back-up plan will be effective and how much better does a tonne of fur make Mute?
From Pontefract in West Yorkshire, representing Team Picus, Still Hurting!
This Nightmare-based robot has versatile capabilities. Between it€™s 17.5kg vertical spinning disc, rear front hinged flipper/srimech and thwackbot spikes it€™s got a lot of potential. It€™s also well armoured and well driven to boot, and with extra wedge protection Nightmare never had it looks like a significantly superior version of that design. However, it€™s just plain huge, and that could make it difficult to drive effectively.
From Patricia in Canada, representing Team Alt, Mobile Failure!
Can€™t complain. Box wedge, lynch motors, powerful pneumatic axe, 6mm titanium armour. What€™s not to like? Well I suppose you could complain about lack of originality, but why bother? Simple designs work and this should be no exception. However, with just 5mm of ground clearance behind the skirts and 0 on the front wedge it may not be the most manoeuvrable of machines.
From Lincolnshire in England, representing Team ???, Axeon 4.0!
This innovatively shaped robot packs two front pointy wedges with which to push other robots around and a powerful pneumatic overhead axe packing 900kg of force with which to bludgeon the opposition to death. This axe can manage plenty of hits, and this bot can take plenty of hits with its thick titanium armour. The mags in the drive provide plenty of power and the shape of the robot means it will always land on its axe to self-right. However it€™s low for an axebot at just 200mm high. Mind you this didn€™t stop Jinx earlier on, who was even lower.
Roboteers, standby!

ACTIVATE!
The match gets underway from the word activate and all six robots move off the mark, albeit slowly and rather pensively. Still Hurting spins up that dangerous disc instantly and looks for a target, and finds one in Axeon 4.0, who comes on the attack of Still Hurting, but Joey turns into the front of the angled box shaped machine and flicks it up into the air but not over with the force of the hit. No visible damage is caused to the 8mm thick titanium armour though, and Axeon drives on the attack of the Nightmare-esque robot, swinging over its axe and clouting the top of Joey€™s machine multiple times.
Now though Venus Flytrap II comes in on the attack and scoops up Axeon 4.0 from the side while Andy was distracted. The clamps fire and Axeon is caught up in the trap. It looks rather excellent too, and so Steven heads over to the pit release and slams into it, but this breaks his flimsy grip on Axeon and Andy€™s machine tumbles back to the ground.
Meanwhile Back to Rock III, Spring-BOK! and Mobile Failure are involved in their own tussle. The Mute-style machine manages a flip on Martijn€™s robot in the confusion of a melee, but Back to Rock bounces onto its wheels and goes back on the attack, getting straight underneath Spring-BOK! while its flipper is fired and lifts it up and over. Chris closes the flipper and pushes itself back over, but Tracy is now on the attack and slams Spring-BOK! with it€™s axe, clamping the furry robot in place and driving it back into the spike strip. Back to Rock comes in to capitilise on this attack and drives into the corner of Spring-BOK!, lifting it up and pushing it over against the spikes.
On the other side of the arena Axeon is wreaking revenge on Venus Flytrap II, having gotten under one of the raised clamps and is now whacking the main body having driven under the corner and pushed Steven€™s bot against the wall. The hardox armour is badly dented, but has otherwise held up well and the damage caused is only superficial. Still Hurting comes in from behind now too and slams into Axeon, flipping it over against the wall, but Andy quickly self-rights and reverses into Joey€™s machine, pushing it across the arena sideways, precariously close to the pit! Venus Flytrap II follows, but Andy drives back on the attack of the green machine, getting under the front this time with it€™s spikey wedges and slams it with the axe again, this time holding Venus in place and turning sideways to dump it into the pit! One simple move ends the match prematurely there and we say farewell to the flytrap.
CEASE!
Venus Flytrap II bites the dust; the other 5 machines advance!
