  • FRFFT: Series Three

    I know I said a long break

But we need something to keep the forum going! The bad news is, there are only four spots in this series of the FRFFT

I need four people to enter one heavyweight each. It must weight between 50-100kg as normal. Walking robots get a weight advantage of double. No flying robots, and so forth. Normal RW rules apply.

This is to make up for the cancellation of the world championships. Also, please pick a country to represent here if you can

Sorry its a bit small, but its what I can do nowadays. See you later

      Re: FRFFT: Series Three

      Blue Hurricane

      Weight: 100kg
      Shape: Disc
      Dimensions: 88 X 88 X 27
Colour: Royal Blue for the sides, and a nice shade of midnight blue for the top and bottom.
      Power: 2 X LEM-130's @ 36v, with a couple of NiCad Batteries.
Wheels: Two Aluminium Wheels with a nice layer of Asmaprene Urethane on it.
Armour: 3.25mm Hardox for top and bottom, and 11mm Grade 5 Titanium for the sides.
      Top Speed: 13mph
      Ground Clearence: 5mm Everywhere.
Turning Circle: Zero! Need I say more?!
Weapon: Ok, the weapon is a nasty 32kg spinning rim, which is made out of 11mm Grade 5 Titanium, with 4 X Tungsten-tipped teeth. (2 teeth on bottom, and 2 on top) The teeth are all made out of hardox, and also curved to rip off skirts and panels with ease. It also runs on a single LEM-130 Lynch, and spins at about 2000RPM. This can rip through titanium and dent hardox quite easily. Heavily Shock-Proofed, as well.
      Srimech: Invertible
Strengths: Can cause a lot of damage
Weaknesses: Not the best pushing power by a long shot

        Re: FRFFT: Series Three

Let's have Bandwagon, representing the USA, shall we?

        Bandwagon (Active)
        Weight: 100kg
Shape: A quite complex box-wedge. The box shape itself is angled 10 degrees towards the wedge, which itself is angled at 45 degrees. The entire shape's edges are rounded to protect against spinners, while the back is rounded to prevent stranding.
Colour: Chrome. The flipper is red, while the skirts are blue.
        Dimensions: 100cm x 80cm x 30cm
Drive: 4x 24v S28-400 Magmotors, powered by 7x A123 Battlepacks, giving me an average of about 18hp.
Locomotion: 4 solid rubber wheels with Aluminum Boron Carbide hubs.
Armour: 5.5mm Titanium/Vanadium alloy, with 7.5mm of Vulkanized rubber on top to prevent axes from doing damage. If need be, the rubber can be removed and placed under the titanium for shock absorption.
        Speed: 20mph
Ground Clearance: 0mm at front due to shape, 0mm at sides and back due to 5mm titanium torsion-sprung skirts. 5mm without skirts.
        Turning Circle: 0m
Weapons: A powerful rear-hinged flipper, powered by a 1000pi 2.5kg nitrogen tank, and utilizing 2 70mm bore 300mm stroke rams to power the flipper. The flipper can flip up to 500kg about half a meter into the air.
        Srimech: The flipper.
        Strengths: Jumping on the bandwagon.
Weaknesses: It can only flip, push, and move at 20mph. Not much else.
Bio: Bandwagon was a robot with a design partially based on the very successful Alex Holt vapour Achilles. After seeing Kody Kunz and his robot Seung Mina V, I realized I also needed an Achilles-type robot.

          Re: FRFFT: Series Three

          I'm in with Infusion

          Name: Infusion
          Motivation: 4 x 125mm wheels
Speed: 0-12MPH [25MPH under Kinetic Boost]
Clearance: 7.5mm (same inverted) 0mm at the front, the wedge scraps the floor.
          Weight: 100kg
          Height: 125mm
          Length: 800mm
          Width: 600mm
Weapon: The weapon is a 28kg Hardox spinning ring (Ala MDU) powered by 2 x D-Pack motors @ 24v (Same motors used in Shredderator). The rim rotates at 2500rpm and should spin up within 1-2 seconds. The weapon is also a storage device for the drive. The spinning rim is connected to each side of the drive via a car air conditioner clutch, when the clutches are engaged, the 31kg kinetic storage bank(the spinning rim) transfers its energy into the drive train, giving it approximately double torque and speed for 2-3 seconds until the rim starts too loose speed and energy. This extra €˜kinetic€™ boost is used to ram into opponents with the front 6mm thick Hardox 500 wedge (similar to the one on Warrior SKF but wider and less depth to it). The front wedge is rubber shock mounted to ensure it survives the biggest of hits.
Drive: 2 x S28-400 Magmotors on 24v geared 4.8:1. The drive is also assisted via the spinning rim as explain above.
          Batteries: 12 x 8 A123 cell packs. 26.4V @ 27.6Amp/hour
Armour: Front wedge is made entirely out of 6mm Hardox 500, the top and bottom of the robot is made out of 4mm Hardox 500, The ring is made out of 10mm Hardox 500 with inner bracing to the perimeter bearing. Inner bulk heads are made from 10mm/20mm aluminium. All internals are mounted on soft urethane mounts for shock protection.
Notes: Invertible, speed when needed and generally well controlled for a spinner. Ram or Spin, Infusion aims to win!

          Will rep for the aussies

                          Re: FRFFT: Series Three

                          I'll enter with Brutalis 2.1

                          Brutalis 1.0 > Brutalis 1.5 > Brutalis 2.0 > Brutalis 2.1
                          Robot Name: Brutalis 2.1
Shape: Dantomkia, but with the front spikes hinged
                          Weight: 100kg
                          Length: 65cm
                          Width: 70cm
                          Height: 15cm
Motivation: 2 x HDPE internal wheels, 125mm in diameter and sloped like Tazbot for more manouevrability.
                          Drive: 2 x LEM-130 lynch motors run @ 48v from 6 x 3600mAh NiCad battlepacks
                          Armour: 3.75mm hardox monocoque
Weaponry: The main weapon is the front hinged flipper, powered by a 120mm x 100mm bore stroke ram @ 145psi from a 1.5kg co2 bottle, giving 15-20 flips per round due to the low pressure. It is capable of pushing robots OOTA of it gets the chance, but is better at turning robots over and than throwing them. Also there is a strip of Mute-style barbs running up the flipper to get robots stuck on it. And finally on either front spike there is a tungsten spike pointing sideways, so when the robot spins it can act as a thwackbot.
                          Speed: 17mph average
                          Turning Circle: 0
Ground Clearance: 0 at front and effectively the same at sides and rear due to 7mm skirts torsion-sprung and made of grade 2 titanium, but behind the skirts is 6mm at the sides and 15mm at the rear.
Srimech: The flipper can right the robot quickly, easily and repeatedly if need be
Colour: Black bodywork, with red skirts and a gold flipper.
Strengths: Very durable, well-armoured, good pushing power
Weaknesses: Flipper isn€™t very powerful, no real damaging weaponry
Notes: This new version of Brutalis ditches the full pressure flipper and heaps of gas from the old one for thicker armour and slightly more powerful drive. The strategy is to push and bully robots around the arena with the pushing power and the flipper, rolling and tossing them around and into the pit or even out of the arena. If it can€™t manage either of those then it will be aiming for dominance in order to swing a judge€™s decision, and due to the tough armour it won€™t be too down in the damage department despite lacking any real damaging weaponry.

my entry will be s.o.i.d which stands for (Scottish oh! im dizzy!) its basically o.i.d (stats on zed) but just painted with the Scottish flag, a mini kilt round the outside and a small tuft of orange hair on the back :P this doesn't effect the overall standard of the robot, just makes it look cool :P
