  • FRFFT: The World Championships

I cant believe this is the fifth tournament I have done in between this month and September 2008 when I joined the FRA Forum. Thats a 7 month gap. Youre probably moaning that I should have better things to do, in which I do, but I think youll find this competition interesting.

I need 4 people to enter 4 robots each, one in each weight class

    Featherweights: 1kg to 12kg
    Middleweights: 24kg to 50kg
    Heavyweights: 50kg to 100kg
    Superheavyweights: 100kg to 200kg

Its a small affair, I know, but I think its for the best. You need to pick a country to represent. Ill take real robots, but they must come from where they do in real life. All of your robots can represent the same country or they can represent individual countries. The weight limits are doubled for walking robots

This time, well be using the house robots. The arena will be the Series 7 arena

Normal Robot Wars rules apply. Thank you and good luck!

        FRFFT: The World Championships

        FW: Small System Shock
        Robot Name: Small System Shock
Shape: Tracked box with a Tornado style wedge on the front and skirts at the sides and rear
Weight: 14.96kg (10% weight advantage for tracks)
        Length: 25cm
        Width: 40cm
        Height: 8cm
Motivation: 2 x titanium tracks coated with vulkalon, one on either side of the robot, protected from the sides but exposed from the top and bottom so it can run inverted.
        Drive: 2 x Astroflight 940 cobalt magmotors run @ 24v from 2 x custom-built 2.4mAh NiCad packs
        Armour: 3.2mm hardox monocoque
Weaponry: The robot is a very powerful, but controlled pusher and has the wedge on the front to get under other robots to push them around.
        Speed: 15mph
        Turning Circle: 0
Ground Clearance: 0 at front and effectively 0 all round due to 5mm skirts made of grade 2 titanium, but there is 10mm clearance behind the skirts.
        Srimech: The robot runs inverted
Colour: Light blue with the name written in yellow on top
Strengths: Very well armoured and strong
        Weaknesses: No active weaponry
Notes: The original System Shock was a pretty successful rammer, coming second in the 128-robot Crash and Burn: Dual Duels with its team-mate Firefly. However it was very basic, and so was upgraded pretty quickly, but here it is reincarnated in featherweight form.

        MW: The Eviscerator
        (stats later, hopefully tonight)

        HW: Toad
        Robot Name: Toad
Shape: Box wedge with sloped sides and rounded rear, plus two Wedge of Doom style scoops on either side of the front wedge
        Weight: 100kg
        Length: 60cm
        Width: 85cm
        Height: 9cm
Motivation: 4 x HDPE wheels, 97mm in diameter and each with a vulkalon coated foam-filled tyre
        Drive: 2 x S28-400 magmotors run @ 24v from 2 x NiCad battlepacks
Armour: The Steel bar chassis is built on the outside of the robot, providing an exo-skeleton protection so that spinners cannot damage it, as they won€™t actually hit the armour itself, plus it could stop some axes from hitting the armour too. The actual armour is 12mm lexan and Lexiguard compound.
Weaponry: Hinged at the rear of the robot there is a 4mm hardox arm, 75cm in length and powered by a powerful linear actuator that will see it lift to almost vertical in 3 seconds, but this can be swapped for an S28-400 magmotor that can raise the arm in 1 second. Also at the end of the arm there are various attachments:
        - A tungsten static spike, curved down and then up slightly so it can get under other robots and then snag their wheel holes when lifting them.
        - A Crushtacean style claw, made of tungsten and drilled with speed holes, operated by a Litton motor @ 36v to grab so the arm can then lift.
        - A 5mm hardox War Machine-style scoop, perfect for defence against spinners.
        - A small tungsten tipped Pussycat style saw blade, powered by a Litton Motor @ 36v. This can be used for invertible opponents in order to damage wheels or tracks.
        - A horizontal tungsten claw ala Big Nipper, powered by a Litton Motor @ 36v
        Speed: 15mph
        Turning Circle: 0
Ground Clearance: 0 at front due to wedge and scoops, 7mm at sides is protected by 5mm thick grade 2 titanium skirts, 5mm at rear
Srimech: The rounded rear allows the arm to right the robot easily
Colour: Black, with gold outlines and flames on the top and on the scoops
Strengths: Interchangeable weaponry, good armour against spinners and axes
Weaknesses: No real damaging weaponry, crushers could get through the armour

        SHW: Omega-Rex
        Robot Name: Omega-Rex
Shape: Box with a steep wedge at the front
        Weight: 200kg
        Length: 90cm
        Width: 90cm
        Height: 25cm
Motivation: 6 x internal HDPE wheels with vulcanised wheels, 125mm in diameter
        Drive: 4 x Briggs & Stratton E-Teks run @ 60v from 12 x 3600mAh NiCad battlepacks
        Armour: 12mm hardox monocoque
Weaponry: A huge Matador-style 12mm grade 5 titanium flipper, hinged at the back of the robot and powered by dual 120mm non-attached rams @ 1000psi (can be cranked up to 2400psi if the tournament allows it) from 2 x 4kg nitrogen tanks to give 35-40 flips!
        Speed: 20mph
        Turning Circle: 0
Ground Clearance: 0 at front, 10mm at sides and rear
        Colour: Gold with silver outlines
Srimech: The flipper stylishly self-rights the robot in a high flip
        Strengths: Powerful flipper
Weaknesses: High ground clearance at sides

Weaponry: MOE-style Ditch cutter blade at the front of the robot, powered by an S28-400 magmotor run @ 24v, it weighs 15kg and spins up to 2500rpm in 3 seconds. Should be very nasty for a middleweight weapon
              Speed: 18mph
              Turning Circle: 0
              Ground Clearance: 10mm

                        Re: FRFFT: The World Championships

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTLbVChdZYc 360 is in there, did a good job of bending DB5's disc up by all accounts.

                        Tactics:

360 will hit OverDrive until it (hopefully) stops

Steel Sandwich will get Hyper-Ventilate around the sides and/or rear and try to get it down the pit

N³ will lift Toad up at the sides to break its traction, clamp onto it with the crusher and pit it

Drive will shove Omega-Rex around, getting underneath the sides and rear, spiking it and at some stage delivering it to the pit.

                        Best of luck everyone

                              Tactics time!

                              360 vs. OverDrive

Sounds like a featherweight version of Hypno Disc vs. Tornado to me. It would make sense to follow the same tactics as Tornado used in that match. Keep the front facing 360 for as long as possible and keep driving into the disc to keep the speed low. Ram it into the walls as much as possible and push it into danger, hopefully the pit. My armour should hold up, especially at the front. If I can keep the disc speed slow, that shouldn€™t matter anyway.

                              The Eviscerator vs. Typhoon

Hmm, not sure we can do much damage to each other here. I€™ll just spin up as much as possible and unleash some heavy hits. Hopefully I€™ll get lucky and tear a panel off or cause some shock damage.

                              Vengeance vs. Fissure

The design of Fissure€™s lifting arm makes it ideal for getting under skirts. After that, I€™ve got six wheel slots to get into and try and lift Vengeance up. Then it€™s just a case of dumping it into the pit. My armour should be able to stand up to the axe. Hopefully I should be able to control this match, especially if it can get in those wheel slots.

                              Vertigo vs. UberForce 2.0

                              €¦hit and run?

Good luck to all. Let€™s have another good little tournament.
