  • Re: How could I Improve pt 2

    Okay guys, It's me, Mark.

I have this idea of trying to create a robot with a big blade ala Gyrate that puts out over 1 MJ of force, but I'm trying to get it to where the robot doesn't kill itself in 1 hit whenever it touches something. Would anyone happen to know how this could be done?

try a belt system with lotsa shock proofing?

        A quick set of stats:

        Extreme Gyration (Active)
        Weight: 150kg
        Shape: A flat disc.
        Colour: Chrome all around.
        Dimensions: 20cm x 70cm x 70cm
        Drive: 2 36v LEM-130 motors, powered by 11 A123 Battlepacks.
Locomotion: A specialized pair of Drillzilla-style shuffling feet, featuring urethane rubber feet.
Armour: 4mm titanium, with 5mm of vulkanized rubber underneath.
        Speed: 7mph
        Ground Clearance: 4mm all around.
        Turning Circle: 0m
Weapon: The weapon is a 100cm long 27kg Hardox bar, powered by 3 Husqvarna chainsaw motors that produce 17hp at 24000rpm. The chainsaw motors are geared 3:1, lowering the bar's speed to 8000rpm. Using the KE calculator, the bar should put out(rounded to the nearest tenth) 1.5MJ. That's right, Megajoules. The blade spins around 800mph, about(rounded to the nearest hundredth) Mach 1.15, and gives off sonic booms from the blade. The weapon should spin up to 8000rpm in about 4 seconds.
Srimech: None, but to flip it, you have to get past the spinning bar first, and there's a chance that, due to gyroscopic forces, the robot might flip itself back onto its wheels.
Strengths: As of this post, the biggest, and most dangerous spinner around.
        Weaknesses: Unreliable Srimech.
Bio: Nega2vity/Ninjoid get's stepped up a notch. Using calculations made by the brilliant and infamous Aaron Knight, Extreme Gyration utilizes the biggest and most deadly blade around. All parts are highly shock-proofed, and I'm surprised Aaron never turned his Super-Deadly spinner into a shuffler to fix the 2mm polycarbonate...
        Win/Loss Ratio: N/A

Trying to get something putting out 1MJ to work without killing itself an/or its weapon can't be done unless you build it way, way over any of the weight limits going around.

Aaron himself admits Gyrate was a disaster XD

Random question: Would Extreme Gyration at least kill its opponent before it died?

                My attempt at something good

                [attachment=0:2r7uu944]All Bar One.png[/attachment:2r7uu944]

                Name: All Bar One

                Weight: 100 kg

Shape: A very wide paralelogram wedge

                Colour: Battleship Grey

                Dimensions: 33cm * 110 cm * 15 cm

                Drive: 2 * LEM 130 (95S) on 48 V with 6 * 15 cell A123 ANR26650M1 battery packs

Locomotion: 2* 15cm diameter 5cm wide titanium hubbed wheels covered in urethane rubber

Armour: 7mm hardox on the wedges, 5mm hardox top and bottom, 10mm hardox on the ends and heavy shock proofing to protect vital components

                Speed: 29mph

Ground Clearance: 0mm at the wedges, varies along the sides to 5mm at the back although technically more due to inverted wedge

                Turning Circle: 0 cm

Weapon: Translational spinner and rammer dishing out 8.4 KJ when top speed ramming

                While spinning:

                18.2 KJ @ 500 rpm
                73.1 KJ @ 1000 rpm

                (now it might kill itself)
                164.5 KJ @ 1500 rpm
                292.5 KJ @ 2000 rpm

                Srimech: Invertible

Notes: A bar shaped translational spinner that can ram if stopped spinning due to it having two wheel drive

Looks great to me - but you probably actually know better than I do!

The only thing I do notice is that the robot is 15cm high and the wheels are 15cm in diameter, yet the robot has a ground clearance of 5mm. Surely if the wheels are as high as the robot there would be no clearance? Or am I just being a bit dull and missing something

I included wheels in the robots overall height for some reason

Note to self: never try to work in decimetres again.

That is actually a fantastic first attempt, although I'm hardly a translational spinner expert I've been staring at it for a while and can't find anything really majorly wrong with it you might have some trouble getting the centre completely hollow, but you should still be able to get most of the weight distributed at the ends (the 10mm end plates will help there) and if my memory is correct regarding the voltage of individual A123 cells, you'd actually get 49.5 volts from your packs rather than 48...still a very good and well thought out design though, you should be pleased with yourself.

I don't suppose you use MSN do you?

this is just a random idea ive got

is it possible to do a robot aquiring

e.g i take control of a bot that the specific person doesnt use any more with there permission

I guess it's possible... If you want some of my retired bots, I'm willing to talk with you about it...
