  • Robot SMASH!! Series 2: Recharged!

Doh, I thought tracks had more traction than 6WD, but whatever. Good fights Liam.

Considering I dont want to fight Axeon in the Heat Final, I will attack Axeon and try and get it out. The front barbs should penetrate the ground clearance easily and I have more than enough armour to withstand his axe blows. Basically power under with my huge power advantage, flip it, and push somewhere nasty, or pit it, or OOTA it. Will team up with Danny if he wants.

Im gonna hit Mega Mashers wheels I guess. Clamp something and pit something seems like a good idea too. I believe Mega Mashers ground clearance would allow me to do so without any problem. That disc is still something to watch out for though. A team up with Hannibal would be appriciated.

      • Robot SMASH!! Series 2: Recharged!

Hello and welcome to Robot SMASH!! , where Heat H is about to get going. After this heat we€™ll be halfway through the heats, so buckle your seatbelts- it€™s gonna be a bumpy ride!
Tonight will see the return of the number #15 seed Wedginator Devilution, who was stopped only by the eventual champion Wedge Devolution last season.
Mega Masher 2 v Hannibal v Axe to Fall
        Wedginator Devilution (15) v Lethal Injection v Axeon 3.0

        Eliminator 1

Created and entered by Christopher Mason, Mega Masher 2!
Mega Masher 2 is like a lighter version of the Battlebots super heavyweight Minion, which enjoyed a lot of success. However, this robot is invertible as well as having a srimech and a powerful vertical flywheel to boot.

        In RS!!1: Didn€™t enter

Built and entered by Leo Van Miert, Hannibal!
This Dutch machine bears a strong resemblance to Chaos 2 in terms of shape, and the flipper is powerful enough to be getting on with. However, the armour isn€™t really up to scratch and the machine has been around for a while.

        In RS!!1: Didn€™t enter

Created and entered by Martijn M Benschop, Axe to Fall!
This semi-barrel shaped robot has a nice meaty axe and a front titanium scoop to get underneath opponents. The front of the robot is nicely armoured, but the rest is polycarbonate and so could get torn apart by spinners.

In RS!!1: Looked promising, and delivered some powerful axe blows to Super Gore Evo, but the polycarbonate armour proved too weak and its drive motors were pierced in round one of the heat.

        Roboteers, standby!

        Booth 1: Christopher Mason
Booth 2: Leo Van Miert, Martijn M Benschop

        5...
        4...
        3...
        2...
        1...
        SMASH!!

Immediately as this opening three-way melee gets underway you can see the potency in Mega Masher 2€™s weaponry as the meaty flywheel begins to spin up, but it€™s Axe to Fall who€™s first on the attack, driving towards Christopher Mason€™s Minion-alike and giving it a nice slam from the side with that axe! Chris looks annoyed and turns around to take a chunk out of Axe to Fall with that flywheel, doing so with ease and now there€™s a large gash in the side armour! But Hannibal doesn€™t want to be left out of the proceedings and comes on the attack of Mega Masher 2, getting underneath the temporarily motionless flywheel and sending Christopher Mason€™s robot up and over onto its back! Mega Masher 2 is invertible and so drives away, but meanwhile now Axe to Fall has recovered from the attack and hits the pit release button. The siren wails and Hannibal attacks Mega Masher 2 again, this time flipping Chris onto the killsaws! BZZT! He€™s knocked away, but spins up and attack Hannibal side on, ripping through the armour and flipping Hannibal on its back in one easy move! Hannibal self-rights, and now we get a nice insight on that top armour- there€™s a nasty gash on the side and Hannibal is defenceless from that angle now, so quickly drives away from Mega Masher 2, who is attacked side on by Axe to Fall, who€™s dangerous weaponry comes right down on top of the wheels! Chris looks worried, and rightly so it seems as Martijn now pulls Mega Masher 2 across the arena and towards the pit of oblivion! The crowd roars, and Mega Masher 2 struggles in an attempt to escape, but it€™s no good and Christopher finds himself sitting on thin air for a comedy second before Mega Masher 2 falls into the chasm and out of the competition!

        CEASE!

That was a good display from all three machines, but Mega Masher 2 ends up in the pit while Axe to Fall and Hannibal go marching on!

I€™m here in the pits now with Chris.
        Me: Commiserations.
Chris: Thanks, but it wasn€™t too bad.
Me: Not at all, your flywheel did some nasty damage to Hannibal and Axe to Fall.
        Chris: Yes, it€™s a shame I couldn€™t get through.
Me: Who do you think will win the heat?
Chris: Hannibal and Axe to Fall both have a chance, I guess, but the real contenders are in the next melee.
        Me: Who would that be?
Chris: Wedginator and Axeon, those two are the ones to watch I think.
Me: Wedginator is seed number #15, do you think that€™ll help at all?
Chris: It€™ll help in the bookies heads, nowhere else, certainly not the coliseum.
Me: Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, now let€™s go to the coliseum for the second eliminator!

        Eliminator 2

Created and entered by Kody Kunz, the number #15 seed, Wedginator Devilution!
Redesigned after last season, this robot has an intuitive three-part front hinged flipper on the front wedge, and powerful top armour all over, but the underneath is not so strong if someone could find a way to attack it.

In RS!!1: (as Wedginator 6.0) Looked extremely promising in the eliminator, enjoying an extremely hard battle with a very dangerous and potent robot, The 6isc. But The 6isc couldn€™t get through the armour and was flipped out of the arena by the all-around flipper. But in round 2 another tough draw came up and Kody€™s flipper hit the camera tracks after a hard battle with Wedge Devolution, the eventual champion.

Created and entered by Danny Bailey, Lethal Injection!
An interesting axlebot with prongs between the wheels designed to trap opponents before the robot€™s flywheel comes in to finish the job with a nice whack. However, according to Danny the robot doesn€™t have an impressive track record, and has been redesigned as Lethal Execution.

        In RS!!1: Didn€™t enter

Created and entered by Andrew Jackson, Axeon 3.0!
This powerful robot packs a powerful punch in the dangerous axe, and also it€™s not easy to get under with four wedges, one on each side of the box shape. However, they could be penetrated by barbs or spears like the ones Wedginator has, so watch out!

        In RS!!1: Didn€™t enter

        Roboteers, standby!

Booth 1: Kody Kunz, Danny Bailey
        Booth 2: Andrew Jackson

        5...
        4...
        3...
        2...
        1...
        SMASH!!

Like the last battle, this consists of three robots, one with a flipper, one with a vertical flywheel and one with an axe. Will see a repeat performance here where the spinner bites the dust, or will either the seeded flipper or powerful axe go out this time?
Well, clearly Wedginator wants it to be Axeon 3.0, as Kody heads straight for Andy and gets under the side with ease, flipping Axeon onto its back! He quickly self-rights and reverses into Lethal Injection though, pushing Danny backwards onto the killsaws! BZZT! It€™s thrown away, but comes back on the attack with its own disc, beginning to gnaw away at Axeon, but Andy attacks it, giving it a dead blow in the tyre, puncturing it with the axe! But Wedginator still wants Axeon out and comes in from behind, once more flipping Andy€™s axe robot, but once more Axeon is quick to self-right and this time shoots off up the arena and presses the pit release button! Wedginator follows, getting underneath Axeon yet again and flipping it over, Andy self-rights, but is pushed up against the wall and flipped into it, but he escapes again before coming back on the attack and quickly getting around the side and hitting his axe under the flipper of Wedginator before the flipper can close! Disaster has struck for Kody, who now tries to pit Axeon, but Andy withdraws his axe and reverses away to push Lethal Injection onto the killsaws again! BZZT! However, Wedginator€™s flipper seems to be damaged, and so Kody just pushes Axeon into the arena wall on his next attack, but with the flipper jammed open Axeon escapes and attacks Lethal Injection jet again, this time trapping the wounded robot, getting his axe over the axle and dragging Lethal Injection towards the pit of oblivion, into which it falls!

        CEASE!

Wedginator, the seed luckily scrapes through the round after its weapon was damaged, Lethal Injection is pitted and Axeon flies through on a high!

I€™m here in the pits now with Danny.
Me: Another bot out on round 1... But that was a tough draw, I€™m sure your luck will pick up sooner or later.
Danny: I sure hope so, I haven€™t had a robot through the eliminator yet.
Me: But plenty to come in the second half of the heats, right?
Danny: Yes, 5 more, though not all of them stand a very good chance.
        Me: Be more optimistic!
        Danny: Thanks.
Me: Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, we€™ll be taking a short commercial folks, but don€™t go anywhere yet because here€™s the round 2 draw!
Wedginator Devilution (15) v Axe to Fall
        Hannibal v Axeon 3.0
Tactics, predictions and a wad of cash please!

This is the original Axe to Fall, so it shouldnt be too hard to get under. Flip it, race back under so it cant right itself, and toss over the fence! Failing that, a good pitting sounds nice.

When is Axe to Fall 2 coming anyway?

Theres a CAD on Martijns signature...

Also Kody was Wedginator Devilution already V2 when entered here? I cant remember...

Hello and welcome to Robot SMASH!! , round 2 of Heat H is starting as we speak!
Wedginator Devilution (15) v Axe to Fall
                Hannibal v Axeon 3.0
Who of these four will progress to the heat final to meet each other? Nobody knows, but the race for a place in the series semi-finals is more on than it ever was!

                Heat Semi-Final 1

Ladies and Gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to the number #15 seed Wedginator Devilution and Axe to Fall.

                Roboteers, standby!

                Booth 1: Kody Kunz
                Booth 2: Martijn M Benschop

                5...
                4...
                3...
                2...
                1...
                SMASH!!

As round 2 of this exciting heat gets underway, we see the only two experienced machines in the heat do battle. The other robots may have battled before, but this all their first time in Robot SMASH!! , except of course for the number #15 seed Wedginator Devilution and Axe to Fall, which bowed in the first round last season. However, it is Kody on the attack straight away as ACTIVATE! Is called, driving on the attack and coming into Axe to Fall€™s zone, getting slammed by the axe and taking a dent in the armour, but nothing more as Kody gets those barbs under the side of Axe to Fall and sends Martijn tumbling over onto his back! And before Axe to Fall can right itself Wedginator is underneath and pushing the axe robot towards the pit release button, but Martijn uses the axe to knock himself off Wedginator and onto his wheels, now attacking Wedginator Devilution side on, getting underneath and clamping Kody in place with the axe! But the seed fires its flipper to knock the axe away and Wedginator escapes, driving around Axe to Fall in a circle before slipping the barbs under the side again before driving in underneath and once again utilising that powerful weaponry to flip Axe to Fall onto its back, again pushing Martijn while he€™s upside down, and despite the semi-barrel shape machine self-righting off the seed again and leaving another nice dent in the front of Wedginator Kody this time succeeds in slamming Axe to Fall into the pit release siren! The sound fills the arena as the pit descends and Wedginator tries to shove Axe to Fall into oblivion, but Martijn escapes this time around and slams Kody with his axe once again, and this time he€™s made a very small perforation into Wedginator€™s thin hardox armouring! It won€™t have damaged any internals, but now Kody uses his superior power to swing Martijn in the direction of the pit, bringing the celebrating Dutchman back down to earth with a bump as he wrenches his axe out of Wedginator only to be attacked side on and flipped up and over, a position which he quickly rights himself from before bringing the axe down into Wedginator€™s workings, exposed by the gaping flipper! The crowd gasp and Kody looks horrified as all of a sudden gas vents out of the damaged area and Wedginator Devilution is suddenly left weapon-less, as Axe to Fall has hit Kody right in the flipper ram! That€™s not very nice, but now Axe to Fall has another slight shave, just pulling out the axe before Kody can use those LEM-200s to pit Axe to Fall! But still Kody ploughs on; meeting the front of Axe to Fall and despite receiving another whack from the axe pushes Martijn back onto the killsaws! BZZT! The Dutchman is flipped, only to self-right once more with that useful axe and to push Wedginator Devilution side on, in Martijn€™s dreams that is as this time the skirts defend Kody and Axe to Fall is unable to push him any further, however he gives Kody another headache as he slams Wedginator with the axe again!

                CEASE!

As the match ends both robots are still mobile, so we go to the judge€™s decision!
                Judge€™s Decision:
                Damage:
                Wedginator- 5 x 4=20
                Axe to Fall- 8 x 4= 32
                Aggression:
                Wedginator- 8 x 3= 24
                Axe to Fall- 7 x 3=21
                Control:
                Wedginator- 8 x 2= 16
                Axe to Fall- 6 x 2= 12
                Dominance:
                Wedginator- 6 x 1= 6
                Axe to Fall- 7 x 1= 7
                Overall:
                Wedginator- 20 + 24 + 16 + 6= 66pts
                Axe to Fall- 32 + 21 + 12 + 7= 72pts

By a 6 point margin we have yet another shock in the series as the number #15 seed Wedginator Devilution bows out to a robot that left us in last year€™s eliminator round!

I€™m here in the pits now with Wedginator Devilution€™s creator, Kody Kunz.
Me: Two seasons, two round 2 losses for Wedginator.
Kody: ...Yes, although Wedginator 6.0 did go out to Wedge Devolution, the eventual champion last year, and I doubt this will be as worthy a loss.
Me: I think the flipper damaged did it, only one ram so when that was damaged that was it.
Kody: Yes, it€™s just one of the disadvantages of having a front hinged flipper, axes and crushers can get to it.
Me: But if the flipper was rear hinged...
Kody: The rams will be exposed to spinners.
Me: Maybe you should just keep your flipper closed!
Kody: Wouldn€™t be much good then though.
Me: How clever of you. Well, sad to see Wedginator go out so early again.
Kody: Yeah, me too, I€™m yet to win a heat.
Me: Hey, plenty of chances left.
                Kody: Thanks.
Me: Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, now let€™s get back to the coliseum for the other heat semi-final!

                Heat Semi-Final 2

Ladies and Gentlemen, please give a thunderous round of applause for the return of Hannibal and Axeon 3.0!

                Roboteers, standby!

                Booth 1: Leo Van Miert
                Booth 2: Andrew Jackson

                5...
                4...
                3...
                2...
                1...
                SMASH!!

It is interesting that in both of our round 1 eliminators in this heat there was a spinner, axe and flipper. In both fights the spinner lost, and now one axe has beaten out a flipper to reach the heat final, will this be a repeat performance or will Hannibal get one back for the flippers?
Not if Andy has it his way, as Axeon immediately dodges the front of Hannibal and pushes Leo from the side, giving him a nice hole in the top armour with that powerful axe! Leo escapes and turns, slipping the flipper underneath the side of Axeon and sending Axeon tumbling onto its back, but Andy quickly self-rights and hits Hannibal again, this time on the rear panel and he holds on so that he can drag Leo onto the killsaws! BZZT! Hannibal feels hot under the collar now and flips Axeon, but the axe remains buried into the top armour and so Andy isn€™t tossed away as Leo would have liked, but now he pulls out his axe anyway to strike Hannibal again, this time on the flipper arm itself! Leo fires the flipper to try and knock Axeon away, but to no avail and Andy takes his axe out to drive in underneath the flipper of Hannibal, which closes on him in a clamping movement! But Andy uses the axe as a front hinged flipper while underneath Hannibal to turn Leo onto his back and then when Leo self-rights Andy hits him on the top armour yet again, scoring yet another perforation into the top armour! However, these hits don€™t seem to be damaging the internals so Hannibal is OK for now, and proves so by pushing under the front of Axeon and flipping Andy across the arena and up against the pit release button! Andy quickly self-rights and rams Hannibal, once again sticking that axe into the flipper arm, but as Leo fires the flipper Andy drives forward, thus knocking Hannibal onto its back and hitting the base armour with the axe, holding down to stop Hannibal righting itself, and instead Leo finds himself being swung around in the direction of the pit he just opened by flinging his opponent into the release! And all of a sudden there is a puff of smoke as Hannibal meets the bottom of the pit for Axeon 3.0 to head through to the heat final!

                CEASE!

The axes rule today on Robot SMASH!! , Hannibal is cannibalised as Axeon 3.0 goes through!

I€™m here in the pits now with Leo.
                Me: Disappointed?
Leo: Not too much. Hannibal is an old machine, and I am pleased that it got past a powerful spinner like Mega Masher 2, especially when you consider how thin the armour is.
Me: Andy has put lots of nice holes in there, hasn€™t he?
Leo: He has indeed, and they€™ll need repairing.
Me: Oh well, Mantis is already through, right?
                Leo: Yes.
Me: And you€™ve got plenty of semi-final chances to go?
                Leo: Definitely.
Me: Good luck with the rest of the tournament.
                Leo: Thank you.

And so with that brighter note we come to the halfway heat final, the final of Heat H.
Axe to Fall v Axeon 3.0
The question is, which axe will prevail here and move onto the series semi-finals?
Tactics, predictions and an axe to defend myself with!

                          • Robot SMASH!! Series 2: Recharged!

Welcome back to Robot SMASH!! , where the Heat H final is about to get underway! But first let€™s look back and see how our two heat finalists got this far:
Axe to Fall teamed up with Hannibal to pit the powerful spinner Mega Masher 2.
Axeon 3.0 was attacked by Wedginator Devilution (15), but fought back strongly and pitted Lethal Injection.
Axe to Fall shocked us all (rhyme intended) by disabling the flipper of Wedginator Devilution (15) before winning by 72-66 decision.
Axeon 3.0 got to grips with Hannibal, striking the elderly robot many times and making plenty of holes in the top armour.
Now they go head to head in a fight to the death, all for a place in the series semi-finals!

I€™m here in the pits now with both teams.
                            Me: How€™s the axe Martijn?
Martijn: Ready to rumble. The plan is to grip Axeon and drag it into the pit, but I don€™t have high hopes for this one.
                            Me: Why€™s that?
Martijn: Most of the robot is polycarbonate, and he€™s got one hell of an axe.
                            Me: But so have you!
Martijn: Thank you, but I can€™t see it going through his armour.
Me: Even if Axe to Fall does crash out here, it€™ll be seeded next time around for reaching a heat final anyway, so it was worth the effort of beating the 15th seed Wedginator Devilution anyway, was it or wasn€™t it?
                            Martijn: Yes, you€™re right.
                            Me: Good luck.
                            Martijn: Thanks.

Me: Hey there Andy, how do you feel about this bout?
Andy: Quietly confident. Axe to Fall is a very good machine and has done well to get this far, but I plan to stop it here.
Me: Do you think Martijn can succeed in pitting you?
Andy: It will be difficult for him, but it€™s not impossible.
Me: Do you think you can beat him?
                            Andy: I hope so.
                            Me: Good luck.
                            Andy: Thanks.

Now we€™re in egg heads corner, with some random guys, one called Professor and the other called Sir. They€™re real names now, because I said so!
Prof.: I can€™t see Axeon going through here, Axe to Fall was very impressive in taking out the seed and that axe is powerful.
Sir: I disagree. Axe to Fall may have done well, but the success ends here. Axeon also got the better of Wedginator, in round 1 and it has the better armour.
Prof.: I bet £111000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000.89 that Axe to Fall will win.
Sir: I bet $2222222222222222222222222222200000000000000000000 000000.98 that Axe to Fall will lose and Axeon will win.
Prof.: But I€™m British, I don€™t have any use for dollars.
Sir: I€™m British too, but I don€™t go shouting about it!
                            Prof.: ....
Me: Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, now let€™s head over to the coliseum for the fight itself!

                            Heat Final

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome back Axe to Fall and Axeon 3.0.

                            Roboteers, standby!

                            Booth 1: Martijn M Benschop
                            Booth 2: Andrew Jackson

                            5...
                            4...
                            3...
                            2...
                            1...
                            SMASH!!

In this, the first all-axes heat final of the series both robots look potent and deadly, with their menacing axe heads almost glowing at the prospect of slamming the other robot at full force to deliver a hit with maximum damage!
And it€™s Axeon immediately on the attack, dodging the front scoop of Axe to Fall and trying to turn and attack from the side, but Martijn turns to meet the attack and so both robots bring their axes down on each other, Axeon€™s going through the 15mm polycarbonate armour of Axe to Fall while Martijn€™s own axe merely dents Andy€™s top armouring. There doesn€™t seem to be any real damage done to the insides of Axe to Fall, but still Andy holds in there and pulls Martijn towards the pit release button! Axe to Fall struggles for a moment, but then Martijn realises the opportunity and slams into Axeon, breaking Andy€™s hold with his axe and getting in underneath the corner of the wedge with that scoop, now slamming Axeon into the pit release button and in doing so flipping Axeon up against the wall with the force of the slam! But Andy self-rights and comes on another side attack, this time succeeding in striking Martijn from side on and once again burying his axe into the semi-barrel shape machine! Things aren€™t looking good for Axe to Fall, and as Axeon holds on in there the two of them struggle to pit the other, but neither drive gets an advantage and the deadly embrace careers onto the killsaws! BZZT! They fly across the arena, and still locked together they bounce along the arena floor and fall into the pit at precisely the same moment!

                            CEASE!

The judges watch the footage in slow motion, but there€™s no distinction between who goes into the pit first, so we now have to go for a judge€™s decision!
                            Judge€™s Decision:
                            Damage:
                            Axe to Fall- 4 x 4= 16
                            Axeon 3.0- 7 x 4= 28
                            Aggression:
                            Axe to Fall- 8 x 3= 24
                            Axeon 3.0- 6 x 3= 18
                            Control:
                            Axe to Fall- 6 x 2= 12
                            Axeon 3.0- 6 x 2= 12
                            Dominance:
                            Axe to Fall- 5 x 1= 5
                            Axeon 3.0- 7 x 1= 7
                            Overall:
                            Axe to Fall- 16 + 24 + 12 + 5= 57pts
                            Axeon 3.0- 28 + 18 + 12 + 7= 65pts

And by an 8 point margin, Axeon 3.0 is the victor and moves onto the series semi-finals!

And so we are now halfway through the heats, let€™s take a look back at the tournament so far:
In Heat A Wedge Devolution (1) showed Splinter who€™s boss in the heat semi-final, then saw who it was up against in the heat final- Crash and Burn Tournament 2 champion Sheer Heart Attack 2, who was flipped around and out of the competition.
In Heat B Knyfe looked promising, knocking out the powerful GBOD in round 2, but poor weapon choice in the heat final saw it crash out to Supreme Glory Omega (3).
In Heat C Storm II (5) went into round 2 feeling confident, but in a massive shock a complete novice called Turbo Shredder did plenty of damage and went through to the heat final, where it was pushed around by Cyclone Force 3.
In Heat D Whirligig 4.5 (7) was the one to watch, but in round 2 it was pitted by Orka MK.4, who then dealt with Macduff the 3rd in the heat final.
In Heat E SOR X was the favourite, but it was Back to Rock III who dispatched WORCK-ER (9) in round 2 and then overcame SOR X in the heat final.
In Heat F All Scoop (11) was the fourth seed in a row to drop out of the second round when it was pitted by Mantis, who then defeated Tengu VII in the heat final.
In Heat G Super Gore Evo (13) broke the mould of the last 4 heats by defeating Wedga€™s Revenge to make the heat final, but it couldn€™t emulate Wedge Devolution and Supreme Glory Omega when it€™s tracks were shredded by Metal Sonic Spin Dash in the heat final.
And today in Heat H Wedginator Devilution (15) bowed out to Axe to Fall in the second round, but Axe to Fall fell afoul of the better armoured Axeon 3.0 in the heat final.

                            And next time:
Shadow Zone Returns (16) v Symmetry v Paralyzation
Achilles v Mega Monsoon v Death Threat 0.2

Right, just to say it is MEGA Monsoon, in the next heat, not Manic Monsoon. The robot entered into the last series was Mega Monsoon, and it has a spike, not a lifter like Manic Monsoon

Would appreciate a team-up with Leo here, but if not, ram Paralyzation around anyway. Flip it if Im desperate (hint :P), but as always I shall use the flipper mostly if I need to self-right.
