Tonight will see the return of the number #16 seed Shadow Zone Returns, as the 3rd in a row Kody Kunz seeded robot makes its presence known in the coliseum. The question is, can it become the 3rd seed to make it through to the series semi-finals, or will it crash out early like the 6 robots before it?
Shadow Zone Returns (16) v Symmetry v Paralyzation
Achilles v Mega Monsoon v Death Threat 0.2
Eliminator 1
Created and entered by Kody Kunz, seed number #16, Shadow Zone Returns!
This powerful pushing bot really packs a punch with 18HP in the drive and a nice front scoop to get in underneath its opponents, not forgetting the full pressure Toro-style flipper at the rear! But it was clamped easily last time around, and it€™s got no protection from the sides other than its skirts and self-righting mechanisms, and they won€™t ward off attackers.
In RS!!1: Powered through round 1 in style, ramming and flipping Fire and Ice all around the arena to win what was an easy match for the Shadow Zone. But despite a good start in round 2 flipping All Scoop around Steven came back and lifted, axed and pitted Shadow Zone Returns in what was an amazing turn around.
Created and entered by Leo Van Miert, Symmetry!
A very interesting design that has the two horizontal discs above one another instead of next to each other; this vanquishes any gyroscopic effects from the weaponry and also the drive is intuitive, with 2 wheels on top and 2 on the bottom that run in reverse directions like Crushtacean to give it an easy route down control. However, the batteries will run out after 4 minutes, so in 5 minute battles it had better watch out, though today it should be OK with the 3 minute fights.
In RS!!1: Didn€™t enter
Created and entered by Samuel Park, Paralyzation!
A pretty simple design, a box with a wedge and a drum on the front; this drum is powered by a LEM-130 at 24v, not the optimum voltage, so there could well be power wasted here, and the 2 S28-400S at 24v, however decent a drive that is won€™t help it push Shadow Zone Returns around at all, as he has double that power.

SMASH!!
These three robots all look pretty dangerous to me, and Symmetry and Paralyzation both start spinning up from the word SMASH!! , but Paralyzation isn€™t given time to get up to full speed as Kody shoots out of nowhere and slams Paralyzation into the arena side wall with a large CRASH! Kody pins him there for a moment, then reverses for another slam, but Paralyzation is quickly away and gets that drum to speed, but now Shadow Zone goes in on another onslaught, once again getting underneath the side and this time pushing Samuel onto the killsaws! BZZT! Symmetry looks on with both discs spinning at full speed and optimum potential, just waiting for the moment to strike, and it seems that moment is coming as the seed gets under Paralyzation side on for a third time and now goes on a full out ram across the coliseum and delivers him into Symmetry€™s discs!
CRASH!
Paralyzation is knocked flying by that hit, but momentarily seems to be OK, spinning up once again and this time when Kody comes in on the attack Samuel manages to turn that drum into the side of Shadow Zone and rips off a side skirt, also flipping the seed up and over! But Shadow Zone quickly self-rights and rams Paralyzation again, this time getting underneath the front end with the scoop and pushing him up against the pit release button! Paralyzation escapes and spins up again, but he€™s completely forgotten about Symmetry, and Leo now drives into Paralyzation at full speed with both those discs going round like hell!
CRASH!
It doesn€™t matter what armour you have, it€™s only as strong as the bolts that hold it on and suddenly Symmetry is left without a side panel! The internal workings are now exposed, and Shadow Zone runs in underneath again, pushing Paralyzation over to the pit, dumping him in front of it for Symmetry to reverse into Samuel€™s drum spinner and nudge it into the pit of oblivion, where it vanishes from view in a puff of smoke!
CEASE!
A very fast and furious match as Paralyzation is paralysed; Shadow Zone Returns (16) and Symmetry go through!
I€™m here in the pits now with Samuel.
Me: How do you think that went?
Samuel: Not very well, it€™s badly damaged from that deadly team-up.
Me: Will see Paralyzation back next year, or is that it for this powerful drumbot?
Samuel: We€™ll have to see how well it does in other tournaments and if I make any other robots that could beat it.
Me: Paralyzation 2?
Samuel: Perhaps.
Me: Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay, now let€™s hit the coliseum for the next eliminator!
Eliminator 2
Created and entered by Alex Holt, Achilles!
This highly successful flipper/rammer is the champion of majors like NSBFL6 and Pussycat Tribute Tournament 5. If that isn€™t enough, it can choose between a hydraulic lifter and pneumatic flipper for weaponry and the pneumatic option has an electric srimech for self-righting without wasting gas while the hydraulic setup has a small hook for holding onto opponents! Recently it competed in the RS!! Mini-Tournament and came fourth overall.
In RS!!1: Didn€™t enter
Created and entered by Daniel Stickler, Mega Monsoon!
Another highly successful vapour, this robot packs 60 horsepower into the drive and has a full pressure spike to shove the opposition around and pierce thinner armours. However, it€™s very fast and could be very hard to control properly.
In RS!!1: Looked promising and put up a good fight against Doorstops in round 1, vanquishing one cluster to the pit, but he was outnumbered and pitted.
Created and entered by Danny Bailey, Death Threat 0.2!
A powerful tracked robot with great horizontal crushing claws to squeeze the life out of you with 6.25 tonnes of force between them. However, it has the lowest success record of the three robots in this melee being the newest, and lack of experience could see it flushed down the drain here.

SMASH!!
Mega Monsoon is very fast off the mark, quickly gaining that 28mph top speed and skidding dangerously around the arena to attack Death Threat 0.2, who dodges the attack and runs into the front of Achilles, starting to get a hold, but before he can Alex flips him over and into the path of Mega Monsoon, who slams into the side of Death Threat at that extreme speed and gets underneath Danny, now going out on a full out slam into the pit release! Death Threat is propelled upwards by the force of the slam, but lands behind Monsoon and quickly grabs hold of Daniel Stickler€™s famous rambot, only to be rammed back across the arena and into the arena wall at the other end!
CRASH!
Death Threat 0.2 is really feeling the pain now, but still holds on and with his better traction almost manages to swing Monsoon onto the killsaws, but the drive in that machine is too strong and Daniel pulls Danny across the arena as he heads for the pit! But now Danny lets go and reverses away, only to find himself backing onto Achilles, who throws him head over heels onto the top of Mega Monsoon, who heads over to the pit and tries to throw Death Threat off the top of him and into the chasm! But Danny drives over the front of Monsoon and gets jabbed by the spike, getting pushed away from the pit and once again into Achilles, who arms in underneath him and pushes him towards the pit, in front of which Mega Monsoon is standing! The three collide and Daniel is almost pushed back into the pit, but he struggles back and out pushes Achilles, and the three machines speed back across the arena into the wall!
CRASH!
Death Threat is knocked free of this deadly embrace, but Monsoon is still underneath Achilles whom it has teamed up with for most of this fight, and Daniel now reverses out from under the PTT5 champion and turns to attack Death Threat again, this time getting the leverage he needs by going right in underneath and pushing Danny across the arena and into the pit in a puff of smoke!
CEASE!
Death Threat 0.2 dies; Achilles and Mega Monsoon whirl on through to round 2!
I€™m here in the pits now with Danny.
Me: I€™m really sad that Death Threat had a round 1 draw as tough as that, I think that if you had had a slightly better draw you could have gone far.
Danny: Maybe, Death Threat has done well recently, winning Heat A in FVAL.
Me: Maybe next season?
Danny: I hope so.
Me: I certainly do, you put up an excellent fight there anyway, not every robot would even last in there with Achilles and Mega Monsoon.
Danny: Thanks.
Me: No probs.
Round 2 Draw:
Shadow Zone Returns (16) v Achilles
Mega Monsoon v Symmetry
Probably, given the opposition, hell use the flipper. He may have noticed that hes low enough to possibly get under the sides, and if he uses the flipper, he can keep turning you over, and given hes got a long gas supply than you, you may run out of gas, then he turns to over and leave you, or flips you OOTA.
I think I have a leverage advantage against his flipper with my scoop, so ram against it. Once under, slam it around. Do this repeatedly, and go Tornado/Storm II all over his ass. If that doesnt work, aim for the sides/rear, and repeat ramming process.
If I get a clear opportunity to get in a flip, do so, then ram him down the pit. Ill use the side spikes to right myself more than the flipper, so no worries about that lol
We€™re back now with the second round of Robot SMASH!! Series 2: Recharged Heat I! In round 1 Paralyzation was paralysed and Death Threat 0.2 turned out to be an empty threat. Four brave competitors survive, but another two must be eliminated before the heat final.

SMASH!!
This is the round that Shadow Zone Returns bowed out of last season; when it was vanquished by All Scoop and No Stab make Steve a Dull Boy, who has already lost out in the second round to Mantis this season. Lots of seeds have bowed out in the second round this season, but from the start of this round it is clear that Kody doesn€™t want Shadow Zone Returns to join the ranks of the defeated and powers forward to meet Achilles, as both robots meet head on! Neither gets under the other this time, but Achilles pushes Shadow Zone backwards across the arena floor and into the arena wall! But with this onslaught Achilles drives up onto the front scoop of Shadow Zone Returns and Kody powers across the arena and slams Alex into the opposite wall, and Achilles is knocked onto its side by the impact! It self-rights and quickly attacks Shadow Zone, this time managing to penetrate the side skirt and throw the seed onto its back, though like Achilles Kody€™s machine packs an electric srimech to conserve flipper gas, and Kody uses this now to get Shadow Zone back onto its wheels, and when he does so he finds the rear flipping arm pressing against the rear of Achilles, and not one to miss an opportunity like this he reverses underneath and throws the PTT5 champion onto its back! Once again Alex self-rights, but Kody gets under the rear of Achilles again, this time using the scoop and he rams Achilles for the full length of the coliseum and dumps the NSBFL6 winner onto the killsaws! BZZT! Achilles is thrown away in a shower of sparks, but finds itself side on to Shadow Zone and rams in underneath, and when Alex hits the flipper button this time Shadow Zone rolls over and back over again on a pretty bumpy ride, finally coming to rest on its side, but right up against the wall! Kody uses the electric srimech, but it just pushes the seed up against the wall! Quickly he uses his flipper to get out of this tight position, but Achilles has come in from behind and Shadow Zone lands on the flipper of Achilles, allowing Alex to throw Kody high into the air again! CRASH!
Shadow Zone lands on its wheels, but land hard and Achilles will gain points from that should this go to a judge€™s decision! But Kody plans to finish it before then and gets under the front of Achilles with that scoop again, this time ramming Alex across the arena and pushing him up against the pit release siren, which wails loudly as Achilles escapes and flips Shadow Zone onto its side yet again, only for Kody to self-right back onto Achilles€™ flipper! And this time Alex sees victory and rushes Shadow Zone to the arena edge and sends the number #16 seed tumbling over the barrier and out of the competition!
CEASE!
Yet another seed crashes out of the competition early on, and Achilles powers through the shadow zone to make the heat final!
I€™m here in the pits now with Kody, who has lost three of his five seeded robots in the past three heats.
Me: Disappointed?
Kody: A little. Shadow Zone isn€™t one of my best chances though, so not too worried although time is running out to get robots into the semi-finals.
Me: You still have Killobite 5.0 (10), Seung Mina IV (4) and Envy.
Kody: Yes, but they have tough line-ups, it could go either way.
Me: Sad to see SZR go in round 2 again.
Kody: Me too, I thought it had a good chance against Achilles.
Me: It did well, just not well enough. Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, now let€™s head back to the coliseum for the second heat semi-final!

SMASH!!
These two metal-munching machines have hardly anything in common, Symmetry with the innovative weapon and wheel setup and Mega Monsoon with the hulking motors, six wheel drive and powerful stabbing spike. Leo is quickly getting those two spinning discs up to speed as this match gets underway, and Mega Monsoon is quick off the mark as usual, sliding across the coliseum floor with minimum controllability as always! But this has put Monsoon side on to Symmetry, and Daniel doesn€™t miss this opportunity, slamming into the side of the destructive machine and ramming Leo across the arena and onto the killsaws! BZZT! Symmetry is thrown away, but finds itself behind Mega Monsoon and slams into Daniel with the discs, not causing great damage, but throwing Monsoon against the wall with a CLANG! Daniel is back on the attack swiftly and pushes Symmetry across the arena floor, and when 100kg of Mega Monsoon is running you across a dangerous arena of death at 28mph there€™s bound to be damage done, and there is now as Symmetry hits the arena wall and the momentum lifts it off the floor and causes the bot to sail through the air and over the barrier! It€™s so unbelievably lucky Leo and Daniel can€™t believe their eyes! Everything was perfect from the angle at which they were heading to the position of Symmetry on Mega Monsoon€™s front wedge, and now Leo finds himself on the camera tracks having been hit by a rammer and not even a flipper!
CEASE!
The audience go wild and Symmetry is thrown out of the contest, Mega Monsoon rains on to the heat final!
I€™m here in the pits now with a disheartened Leo.
Me: That didn€™t exactly go to plan, did it?
Leo: I would rathered that Mega Monsoon was shredded than Symmetry was OOTAed, yes!
Me: You did do some damage though.
Leo: It was a good hit, but the damage seemed to be minimal.
Me: Will we see Symmetry back next season?
Leo: Maybe.
And so, we have the draw for the heat I final!
Achilles v Mega Monsoon
Lovely 1cm ground clearance at the sides and a high top speed should work in my favour here - although MM is faster and more powerful I should be far more controllable, and Ill use the hydraulics and aim to lift it into the air where its massive horsepower cant get to me. Im not too worried about the spike - pnuematic spikes tend to push things away rather than damaging them too much, and the titanium and hardox should stand up to it fine should I get hit. Id also guess that I should generally be able to get beneath him better due ot my shape.
Oh and Id better get my tactics in for the next heat.
Death Wish 2 v BioHazard v Axes of Evil
Axes of Evil has 2cm Polycarbonate, but polycarbonate is polycarbonate, so I shall spin up and trash Axes of Evil.
