How did these two robots get this far?
1) Razer grappled Terrorhurtz and immobilised the mad-axe bot.
2) Wedge Devolution had a tougher fight with Woodpecker, eventually throwing it around enough to win.
3) Razer had an easy bout with Ming Die-Nasty, causing maximum destruction.
4) Wedge Devolution had a hard match with Wedginator, but scored an OOTA.
Booth 1: Martijn M Benschop
Booth 2: Steven McGregor
5,4,3,2,1, SMASH!!
Both these vapourboteers already have a robot in the finals, and both of them wants to be the one to get two in there! Wedge Devolution is the faster of the two, and Steven shows this quality now by zooming around and flipping Razer over, but it spins a full sideways 360 and lands on its wheels! Martijn now launches an onslaught of his own, getting underneath the side skirt of Wedge Devo and using the crusher to get a vice grip on its opponent! Razer now pushes Steven into the pit release tyre, and Wedge Devo fires the flipper to try and get free! He doesnt escape entirely, but just loosens Razers grip enough to get some wheels on the ground to get away! Razer pursues, but Steven gets around the side again and once more flips Razer, who this time lands on his side! The srimech starts going, but Wedge Devo gets underneath again and fires the flipper once more!
CRASH!
Razer flies into the air and comes crashing down on the edge of the pit, but on his wheels! Martijn escapes, but Wedge Devo catches up and flips Razer again! And this time he forgets about flipping Razer again, this time pushing Martijn towards the wall before he does! And now Razer is stacked on the wall, but Martijn uses the rear tail to get down, albeit he lands on his side and in comes Wedge Devo before he even gets a chance to kick that srimech into action!!!!
FLIP!
Razer somersaults gracefully over the barrier and Wedge Devo goes through!
THE LAST HEAT IS OVER!
The Quarter-Final Draws:
1) Liar 2 v Wedge Devolution
2) Supreme Glory Omega v Storm II
3) Seung Mina IV v Nidhogg
4) ISDSFA v Whirligig 4.5
TICTACS:
Ill avoid the front - my 2 wheel drive versus her four should give me better maneuvrability to do that, and get around the sides, try and go for the areas without skirts, although I might be able to get under the skirts with the forks. Break her traction by lifting with the forks, grasp on to her with the crusher, possibly breaking the flipper for the hell of it, and offer to be Seung Minas escort on an all-expenses paid round the world romantic holiday, starting with the arena flaoor and taking in a range of sites including Paris, Sydney and Pit Release, and finishing in Pit.
Fights of A+ GSCE grade of awesomeness Now for predictions and tactics.
The Quarter-Final Draws:
1) Liar 2 v Wedge Devolution: Unless Liar proves me wrong and gets under those skirts, Im going for Wedge to get underneath and push Liar to the edge for an honest OOTA .
2) Supreme Glory Omega v Storm II: ARGHHHHH!!! I dont believe this! Not SGO again! Why is this Daniel? Why do I face Private Stickler and LOSE! Ive got a grudge to settle here...and 2 other grudges . I think that I got unlucky with D.V.D in the heat, and I plan to get revenge by using D.V.Ds tactics from the heat - ram into it in a direction its turret ISNT facing, and plough it into the walls. Try and keep SGO on top of Storm 2, and put it in the pit - no fancy stuff, just a quick, clean victory is what I have planned.
Good luck Daniel...Ill need it
3) Seung Mina IV v Nidhogg: Ohhhhhhh...a tough fight to predict...Nidhogg to shock us and immobilise the Easter Bunnies chosen good boy.
4) ISDSFA v Whirligig 4.5: Ill go for ISDSFA, as it can resist Whirligigs blades and put it down the pit.
Err...oh boy, I think Storm II has the advantage , in terms of speed and pushability anyway.
Seung Mina IV v Nidhogg
We meet again, Mr. McConnell...its do or die for both of us.
First of all, its shaped almost like Lightning from Series 7, meaning its sides and rear are just asking to be attacked. Otherwise, its exactly like my own vapourbot, Killobite 5.0. I dont think the spikes will be of use here, so its back to the flipping plate for Seung Mina. Also what will come into play is the power issue. More often than not our clearance will cancel out and well be at a standstill. Hes got C40-300 MagMotors @ 24v and 2 wheels. Seung Mina IV has 2 LEM130s @ 48v, and 4 wheels. Obvious who has the more power, eh? Main tactics: RAM! PUSH! FLIP! RAM SOME MORE! FLIP!
WEDGE DEVOLUTION - See Chaos 2 VS Wheely Big Cheese. My four wheels should beat the axlebots two and that narrow flipper will have a hard time getting under me. Keep to the sides and rear, ram to the nearest wall and throw like theres no tomorrow.
Liar 2 is the powerful flipping axlebot with thwackbot capabilities. How did Martijn bring this powerful vapour to the quarter-finals?
-In the eliminator he had an easy bout with Cyrilium 2, which ended up OOTA very quickly.
-In the heat semi-final Liar 2 had a tougher match with Weapon Synergy, but eventually 20kg was deemed to be too light for each cluster and they were flipped sky-high.
-In the heat final Liar 2 met Gabriel II, a fellow flipper, who was beaten after a hard fight.
Wedge Devolution is also a flipper, but a more practical wedge design. How did Steven bring this robot through Heat H?
-The eliminator round so him drawn up against Woodpecker, which caused some damage, but was defeated by the sheer strength of the flipper and the effectiveness of the simple design.
-A much harder fight followed in the heat semi-finals with Wedginator 6.0. Wedge Devo started badly, but eventually stacked Kody and threw him OOTA to win.
-Razer had had an easy route to the heat final, but Wedge Devolution put a stop to his reign of terror, making use of its superior speed and agility to out-manoeuvre the ex-world champions.
Booth 1: Martijn M Benschop
Booth 2: Steven McGregor
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, SMASH!!
The first of our two quarter-finalists get off the mark, patrolling the edge of the arena, surveying each other to try and seek out any weak spots from afar. Wedge Devolution goes on the attack first, heading straight for Liar 2 and getting under the side!
FLIP!
Over goes Martijn, but Liar 2 is invertible and gets behind Wedge Devolution to get a flip of its own in!
FLIP!
Wedge Devo goes up and comes crashing down onto its wheels, and now turns to face Martijn again, ramming in and flipping Liar 2 again, before continuing the onslaught and flipping it onto the angle grinder! Liar 2 drives away and Wedge Devo pursues, getting underneath and using the flipper again! Liar 2 flops over once more, and Martijn is beginning to feel the heat now as Wedge Devo attacks again, flipping Liar onto the flame pit! In desperation Liar 2 starts spinning, and in goes Wedge Devo!
CRASH!
One of the spikes on Liar 2 gets stuck under Wedge Devo€™s flipper, and Martijn pulls Steven onto the flame pit! Wedge Devo fires the flipper and reverses out of trouble, but Martijn follows and flips Steven into the corner! Wedge Devo quickly self-rights, but is flipped again by the arena spike, so when he self-rights again Liar 2 has arrived in the corner! Seeing no other way out Steven slams into Liar and fires the flipper, lifting Liar 2 a little of the ground so that Steven can escape! But Martijn isn€™t fooled and continues its pursuit of Wedge Devolution, getting underneath again and sending Steven into a forwards somersault across the arena and straight into the pit release button! Wedge Devo self-rights and turns to meet Liar 2, this time getting in underneath and throwing Martijn over! Steven follows up that attack, flipping Liar 2 again and ramming it into the corner where it is flipped by the arena spike back onto Wedge Devo€™s flipper, and Steven obliges again, this time Liar 2 balances on the barrier for a moment before falling back into the arena! Martijn goes into another spin, but this time he just knocks Wedge Devolution away, and Steven quickly gets back in on the attack and flips Liar 2 so that Martijn is stacked on the arena wall! The crowd gasps- is Liar 2 going the same way as Wedginator 6.0 did back in Heat H?
No is the answer, as Liar 2 uses its flipper to get down off the wall and spins again, thwacking Wedge Devo€™s side armour. But the armour holds up well and Steven gets under Liar 2 again, this time throwing him into the corner, where Martijn is stacked by the spike! And now it seems Steven has a chance as one of Liar 2€™s spikes is hooking it to the wall, and in drives Wedge Devolution to finish this match off!
FLIP!
Liar 2 hits the macrolon protecting the audience and slides down the wall slowly, finally coming to rest on the camera tracks. The crowd roars with delight while Martijn bangs his head on the side of the booth in frustration, and in the other booth Steven jumps up and down in glee!
WEDGE DEVOLUTION IS THE FIRST SEMI-FINALIST!
Steven€™s wedge design was too practical for Liar 2, and Martijn finds himself OOTA and out of the competition!
Supreme Glory Omega reached the quarter-finals by:
-Smashing through Dead Horse Beater€™s 4mm polypropylene base armour
-Dealing D.V.D a one-hit KO
-And decimating the hot heat favourites, All Scoop and no Stab make Steve a dull boy
Storm II is the only realie to make it past the heats, how did it manage that?
-Rolled Haardvark around with ease
-Surprised everyone by taking out Tempest Evil-est-oution in the heat semi-final
-Springing another surprise on us in the heat final by goring Super Gore Evo
Booth 1: Daniel Stickler
Booth 2: Paul Cuomo
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, SMASH!!
Storm II speeds off the mark and races around the arena, trying to attack SGO from the side! Paul rams in, but Daniel moves aside and Storm II finds itself in the corner, where it is flipped by the arena spike! The wedge is now useless, and its SGO doing the chasing as Storm II hurries away as fast as its six wheels will carry it! But Daniel uses skilful driving to get Paul up in the corner once more and he is flipped by the spike again! Paul tries to ram his way out of that position, but SGO brings the axe down hard onto Storm II€™s bodywork, piercing the top armour! But still Storm pushes on, and Paul presses the pit release button! Daniel senses it€™s time to get the axe out and does so, only to bring it crashing down onto Storm II again! And this time Daniel has jammed it between two wheels, and Storm is having difficulty pushing now! Daniel holds the axe in there and pushes Paul onto the flame pit, and as the flames dance on Storm II€™s armour Daniel takes the axe out and reverses away, ready to attack again if need be! Paul, however, seems to be having control problems and merely turns to face SGO, but it seems he€™s stuck on the flame pit! Taking advantage of this SGO comes in from the side and strikes again, this time getting a direct hit on one of the front wheels and dragging Storm II towards the pit! But Paul seems to be coming back a bit in power now and wriggles free, reversing away, albeit limping a bit from the damage on that tyre! SGO, meanwhile feels that it hasn€™t caused Storm II enough pain and pursues, catching up with the injured realie and bringing that formidable axe down onto the shell of Paul€™s quarter-finalist again, piercing the top armour once more! Storm II fires the lifter in protest, but it€™s not underneath Supreme Glory and Daniel continues to push Storm II across the arena, this time into the angle grinder! And when SGO pulls that deadly axe out of Storm II Paul does nothing at all! There€™s no movement from the little rambots, so SGO goes in again!
CRASH!
That hit slammed through the armour again, and there seems to be something smashed all over Storm II- it€™s the batteries! These axe onslaughts have done no good to Storm II€™s internal workings and now it seems Paul€™s hopes of Robot SMASH!! Glory are over, though Daniel€™s broad grin suggests things are just beginning for him!
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, IMMOBILE!
Storm II is out for the count, Supreme Glory Omega€™s axe was way too powerful for the surprisingly good realie who must now leave the arena in bits! Paul€™s Robot SMASH!! Campaign becomes the third to end after Mark and Martijn have already bitten the dust.
For godness sake - WHEN am I going to bleedin beat SGO? Next year? Next Tuesday? Im not too bothered abouth THIS loss though, as this wasnt one of my vapourbots.
And on the plus-side, the worst I can come in this competition is 8th, and in the Easter Bunny thing, I came 9th. And if there is the 5th place battle, I might be outclassed, but itll be good.
Mark, your not funny, and I hereby follow Kody and ban you from all my future tournaments/RPGS etc.
Quarter-Final 3/4:
Seung Mina IV v Nidhogg
Seung Mina IV is the successor to Seung Mina III (duh), let€™s look back at how Kody€™s robot got this far:
-Flipped Metal Sonic Spin Dash around to win on a JD
-MeCannibal 2.0 was flipped around and eventually pitted
-Another close fight with Flick of the Wrist saw Kody get Mina into the finals.
Nidhogg was the winner of the first challenge belt, like Mina won ETC08. These are both victors of my previous tourneys, so this should make for an interesting match. But how did Nidhogg, the Razer-esque bot with lifting forks to boot get this far?
-Nidhogg took on The Curse in the eliminator and won by damaging the tyres.
-Doorstops was stopped by the increasingly powerful Nidhogg
-And in the heat final Nidhogg got its revenge on WORCK, which had beaten it in the challenge belt.
Booth 1: Kody Kunz
Booth 2: Joey McConnell
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, SMASH!!
Both robots get off the mark quickly, turning and twisting, trying to get their deadly weapons into play before the other does. Mina is the first to draw blood as she breaks through Joey€™s defences and flips Nidhogg onto its back! It€™s a comparatively slow self-righter, and this gives Kody the chance to push in on the attack again, ramming Nidhogg into the corner and flipping it again! Luckily for Joey Nidhogg avoids the arena spike and now he gets the chance to attack, getting underneath Mina€™s skirts with his lifting forks and breaking her traction as he hoists Kody into the air! And Mr. Kunz looks worried as the crusher of Nidhogg comes down on top of his machine, making contact with the top armour and holding on tight! Kody tries to knock Nidhogg away by firing his flipper, but to no avail and Joey carries Mina over to the pit release button! He smashes the tyre off the wall, and Kody tries to loosen himself with the flipper again, and this time Mina falls back onto the arena floor! Instead of reversing away as expected Mina drives in on the attack and throws Nidhogg over again, and it seems that Nidhogg went so high into the air and came down so hard that some of the self-righting spines are damaged with that flip! But for now Joey is safe, although when he lands back on his wheels Kody is ready and rams him into the wall again, and goes for an OOTA! But this time Nidhogg is luck, as Mina was too close to the wall and Joey merely got smashed into it. Nidhogg will have one hell of a headache right now, but Joey is still in the bout and now goes on his own onslaught, getting the forks stuck through the bars of Mina€™s flipper! A move like this wasn€™t expected, and Mina can€™t shake Nidhogg loose with her flipper! Kody looks worried, and once again Joey goes in with that crusher and this time he€™s clamped on completely! But he can€™t push Mina around from this position as her wheels are still on the ground and she has 4 wheels to his 2. Kody suddenly realises that he has a chance of getting Nidhogg into the pit, but Joey realises too and gets both his weapons out of there! He quickly reverses away, but Mina follows and chases Joey into the corner, where Nidhogg is flipped by the arena spike! And before he can self-right Mina goes in for the kill, getting the plate under Nidhogg again and pushing Joey up against the side wall! Nidhogg struggles, but can€™t get free! But as Kody grins maniacally and gets in further he is flipped by the arena spike, and Nidhogg escapes! And this time when Mina self-rights Kody has stacked himself on the arena wall, and now Joey comes in from the side so as to avoid the spike, gets those forks underneath and lifts Mina off the wall from behind! He quickly brings the crusher in, and because it€™s behind Mina Kody can€™t use the flipper to get free! And now Joey drags Mina across the arena floor and right up to the pit of oblivion! He spins around and...
A PUFF OF SMOKE AND IT€™S ALL OVER!
What a shock at this stage in the competition! Nidhogg turns the fight around and pits Mina, who leaves the competition!
Coming Next: The last quarter-final
