How did these two make it this far?
1)Storm II flipped Haardvark around, eventually pitting it.
2)Super Gore Evo took damage from Axe to Fall, but eventually Martijn was left chasing his tail.
3)Storm II took on Tempest Evil-est-oution, and surprised us all by pitting the FBS.
4)Super Gore had another tough encounter with an axe, this time the axe of Killotine: EVO, which pierced its tracks. But Kody turned the fight around and pitted Killotine to get through.
Booth 1: Paul Cuomo
Booth 2: Kody Kunz
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, SMASH!!
Storm II goes off like a bullet out of a gun and speeds across the arena into the pit release button! Super Gore follows cautiously and Kody tries to grab Storm from the side, and although the clamping claws get a hold one of them was on Storm€™s lifter and Paul lifts SGE into the air, and now carefully carries it towards the pit! When they€™re near the edge Paul retracts the lifter so that SGE is on top of him and reverses carefully so that one of Kody€™s tracks go over the side of the chasm! Some more careful manoeuvring and SGE is playing with death, balancing precariously on the edge! Paul smiles, drives away, teasing the worrying Kody and comes back in! He gets underneath and stylishly uses the lifter to tip SGE in!
THE PENULTIMATE HEAT ENDS!
Storm II goes through to the finals, Super Gore Evo should make way for Super Gore Revo.
Coming Next: The opening eliminator of the final heat
The Darke Destroyer v Ming Die-Nasty
My revised tactics:
Either try and get it to drive in the pit, or failing that, spin up and use my awesome weaponry to utterly annihilate the loose bits of Mings paintwork. If Im lucky, I might even be able to take off...
Eliminator 29/32:
The Darke Destroyer v Ming Die-Nasty
The Darke Destroyer was a competitor in RW3 and 4. This is the RW3 version, with that large blade that did do some damage to Sgt. Meikle, but proved useless against tougher materials. It reached the heat final, beating T II on a controversial JD in round 2, but they were flipped and immobilised by Gravedigger in the heat final.
Ming Die-Nasty is also an RW competitor, and like the Darke Destroyer its former incarnation made an appearance in RW3. They were even in the same heat! However it enjoyed less success and was eliminated in the opening round of the tournament by the powerful Mortis. They too returned in RW4 with a new robot, and Ming II was more successful using the front hinged flipper to overthrow Diotoir in round one, but they broke down in round 2 while facing The Morgue. Unlike their opponents in this battle they appeared in all the series that followed excluding extreme 2, in extreme 1, RW5 and 6 with Ming III (a Razer-esque design that was beaten in the early rounds by Terrorhurtz and Supernova respectively) and then in RW7 in this form, Ming Die-Nasty. It€™s actually a bit of a comedown from the previous robot, with a drill replacing the crusher. It was seeded 15 in RW7, but was beaten for the third time in the opening round, this time by Scraptosaur and Ceros.
Booth 1: Joey McConnell
Booth 2: Mark Elam
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, SMASH!!
Another match gets underway, and Joey heads straight for the pit release tyre, then taking advantage of his wide turning circle to manoeuvre right in front of the pit! Mark comes in with the drill spinning and attempts to nudge his opponent, but The Darke Destroyer dodges out of the way! Ming almost goes in, but keeps his balance and drives after The Darke Destroyer, whose blade hits Ming and stops, having folded itself and caused no damage whatsoever! Ming pushes The Darke Destroyer into the corner, his own weaponry proving equally useless! But now Mark has Joey in the corner, and up comes the spike! The Darke Destroyer is lifted, but lands the right way up and escapes! Ming follows and this time manages to get the drill in under the side of Joey€™s realie! Mark tries a lift, but The Darke Destroyer falls off and so Mark just pushes it across the arena and finally down into the pit!
MARK€™S FIRST WIN IN THIS TOURNAMENT!
Ming Die-Nasty goes through as The Darke Destroyer is destroyed in a Darke manner!
The 6isc is a very original machine with a fairly powerful spinning disc with the teeth shaped on the disc instead of surgically attached. Go to the vapourbot images thread to see the CAD, its a very strange shape!
Wedginator 6.0 is an all around flipper, but due to the armour being heavy it can only toss about 175kg. But thats more than enough to deal with The 6isc, or so Kody hopes anyway!
Booth 1: Frank Goacher
Booth 2: Kody Kunz
5,4,3,2,1, SMASH!!
The 6isc starts spinning up, while Kody comes straight in, gets underneath and pushes Frank into the arena wall! The paintwork on Wedginator is ruined (sob), but the 6isc wasnt at full speed so Kody didnt take any real damage and now continues his onslaught, pushing Frank up against the pit release tyre and flipping! Frank wobbles on his wheel protectors for a moment, then crashes to the ground and attacks the side of Wedginator, spinning Kody away! But again no real damage seems to have been caused and Wedginator comes back in and pushes the 6isc back into the corner, where it is turned over by the spike! And Kody rushes in underneath and rams Frank into the wall, now fires the flipper! The 6isc goes sideways and three wheels are now over the wall, the other three on the arena floor, and they turn so that Frank falls back into the arena, but Kody comes on an another onslaught and flips the 6isc again, and this time Frank is on the rails, struggling to get back in! But Kody holds the flipper up and pushes, not letting Frank get back in! Eventually The 6isc falls OOTA!
ANOTHER SURPRISE IN THIS HEAT!
The 6isc is eliminated! Wedginator 6.0 goes through!
Razer is a two-time world champion and one-time UK champion of Robot Wars. The design, very original when it first appeared in the second wars has now been copied by many and is a household weapon.
Terrorhurtz also made its first appearance in the second wars, but in its former incarnation, Killerhurtz. Terrorhurtz actually lost to Razer in the grand final of RW6, and lost.
Booth 1: Martijn M Benschop
Booth 2: Paul Cuomo
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, SMASH!!
Razer immediately gets off into the arena quickly, skidding around and going straight for Terrorhurtz! Paul tries to get around the side of Razer and does so, pushing Martijn and hammering the crusher! But Martijn turns around and gets underneath Terrorhurtz, which still flailing the axe all over the place to no avail. Razer sinks the crusher through the armour and into the electronics, and through Terrorhurtz€™s transparent lexan we can see something get demolished! I think that was the speed controller! Now Razer lifts THZ up into the air and roasts him on the flame pit before Paul falls off the crusher! He can€™t get away though and Razer pierces the exterior of THZ again, this time puncturing the co2 canister! Gas vents from Terrorhurtz and Razer malevolently takes Paul over the to the floor flipper, and sets him down.
FLIP!
Terrorhurtz flies through the air and lands upside down in a crumpled heap, and without the axe he can€™t self-right even if his wheels would turn, which I doubt.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, IMMOBILE!
Terrorhurtz is down and out; Razer goes through to the heat semi-finals!
Coming Next: The very last eliminator of Robot SMASH!!
Wedge Devolution v Woodpecker
Wedge Devolution has fought in many tournaments, including some of the best ever like VFT, winning one of them (I think). It fought in ETC08, but was defeated in the second round by Super Gore Evo.
Woodpecker has interchangeable weaponry, Daniel can choose between a flipper and an axe. For this match Daniel has chosen the axe.
Booth 1: Steven McGregor
Booth 2: Daniel Stickler
5,4,3,2,1, SMASH!!
The last eliminator gets underway! Wedge Devo is first off the mark, scooting off around the arena and trying to get around the rear to attack. But Daniel is quicker and slams Wedge Devo from the side, hammering down on that top armour with amazing speed! But Steven escapes and not much damage was inflicted, and on his second attempt Steven is successful in getting in behind Woodpecker, easily getting the flipper in and giving Daniel some airtime! Woodpecker flies over onto its back, and self-right quickly, but Wedge Devo was ready and got behind so that Steven can now flip it again! Over goes Daniel, and Wedge Devo carries on attacking so when Woodpecker slef-rights it lands on the Wedge, and when it does Steven flips it! This happens over and over, and Woodpecker is getting wrecked! But Daniel doesnt give up and continues to keep self-righting and finally there was a wonky flip from Wedge Devo and Woodpecker escapes, to come back on the attack and once again ram Wedge Devo from the side and come down with that axe! He pushes Steven up against the angle grinder, but Steven escapes, pulls around gets underneath and stacks Woodpecker on the wall! Daniel fires the axe again and again in desparation, but hes not going anywhere and in comes Steven to finish the match!
FLIP!
Woodpecker sails over the rails and lands in a crumpled heap!
THE LAST ELIMINATOR IS OVER!
Wedge Devolution goes through!
Heat H Semi-final line-ups:
Ming Die-Nasty v Razer
Wedginator 6.0 v Wedge Devolution
Coming Next: The Featherweight Final!
Skink v T.R.E.D.T.H.A.L
TREDTHALs tactics are back in the April 24th archive page.
As for Wedge Devos next fight, thisll be a tricky one. Wedginators 24mph top speed should mean I have the superior control. Get to the sides, flip it over, get under the back end and push it to the walls for an OOTA ASAP.
