Robot Name: Drumroll SR
Shape: Box wedge shape (with the wedge pointing to the rear) with killer drum attached to the front. Small wedge-forks are fitted at the front to guide opponent robots up to the drum.
Colour: Sides and wedge are a fabby metallic blue, while the drum itself is white with the teeth painted red
Speed: 14mph
Armour:4mm hardox sides underneath an 8mm layer of HDPE, 4mm hardox rear wedge (sloped at 45*), 6mm aluminium base (with lightening holes) and 12mm HDPE top panel
Drive: A pair of PMG 080 Perm motors running at 24V through custom-made 12:1 ratio gearboxes driving 200mm wheels.
Power: 2 x 36V 4500mAh Nicad packs connected in parallel. Dual rates on the transmitter ensure that the drive motors receive a maximum of 24V
Motivation: A pair of 200mm wheels custom-made from HDPE (like Tough as Nails) with go-kart tyre tread screwed on
Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front forks rising to 8mm at the back (Sides slope from 0mm-8mm)
Turning Circle: 0
Dimensions: 90cm x 80cm x 18cm
Weaponry: A front-facing spinning drum weighing in at 14kg with Hardox 650 bar-teeth bolted/welded on. It is powered by two LEM-130 motors running at 36V on a 1.5:1 ratio belt-drive to the drum and is capable of delivering 6 kJ of energy per hit
Srimech: None - can run both ways up
Notes: A scaled up version of my featherweight robot Drumroll
Robot Name: Dr. Acula (yes I€™ve been watching Scrubs recently)
Shape: T-shaped robot with all the components (drive, batteries, weapon components) mounted in a long compartment at the back of the robot (i.e. the horizontal line of the T-shape) with two crushing claws connected together therefore moving as one sitting in the middle of the component pod and coming out at right angles to it.
Colour: The body is all black but the claws are white with red €˜blood€™ effects on the tips
Speed: 20mph max
Armour:4mm hardox for the front and back of the component pod again with 8mm HDPE covering it. It has 6mm hardox protecting the wheels, which are located at either end of the pod. The claws are made out of 8mm hardox and have 12mm titanium tips while the wedge for the other robots to ride up to the claw is angled 4mm hardox.
Drive: A pair of 12V Bosch 400W motors running at 24V through a 10:1 chain drive reduction onto 254mm (standard 10€Â) go-kart wheels.
Power: 4 x 24V 3000mAh Nicad packs in parallel
Motivation: 254mm go-kart wheels, chain driven
Ground Clearance: 0mm at the front where the wedge of the claw touches the ground. 10mm everywhere else
Turning Circle: 0
Dimensions: 125cm x 80cm x 50cm
Weaponry: A pair of crushing claws that bite down, powered by two LA36 Linak linear actuator, both rated at 10000N (1 tonne).
Srimech: Can run inverted but claw becomes ineffective upside-down
Notes: Although this robot may not crush with as much devastation as the likes of Razer, it still has enough power to pierce and deform (more easily) forms of plastic armour such as polycarb or HDPE top panels. 1 tonne of force is also plenty to grip with allowing Dr. Acula to take his victims wherever in the arena he pleases
Robot Name: Firefly
Shape: Curvy box-shaped rammer with actuated plough/wedge.
Colour: Yellow body (black highlighty bits here and there) with natural-material colour for the plough
Speed: 22mph
Armour: Welded box-section chassis armoured with 8mm titanium covers.
Drive: A pair of LEM-130 motors running at 48V through 10:1 ratio gearboxes driving four 254mm go-kart wheels
Power: 4 x 24V 3700mAh Nicad packs connected in series and parallel.
Motivation: Four wheel drive using 254mm go-kart wheels; gearbox output shaft connected to front wheels with chains taking drive to the rear wheels.
Ground Clearance: 8mm all round, but 0mm at the plough when it€™s touching the ground.
Turning Circle: 0
Dimensions: 90cm x 80cm x 24cm
Weaponry: A plough/wedge that runs at the front of the robot (a bit like a snow-plough). It pivots just past the centre of the robot, mounted on a shaft. This shaft is connected via heavy-duty chain to a custom-built gearbox, all driven by a LEM-170 motor. It powers the plough so it can act as a lifter, and travels 90* from horizontal to vertical
Srimech: None - can run both ways up, weapon also effective both ways up (ala Big Nipper)
Notes: Inspired by a machine from Thunderbirds and adapted to suit robotic combat
I will add five real robots to these three (sorry I know its cheating a bit but it always takes me longer than I think to make up vapourbots - will get my own whole team made up one of these days :P)
Big Nipper
Sewer Snake
Tough As Nails
Pussycat
Kronic
(all current versions of real robots)
Ill try and get some pics drawn of my vapourbots just to make it easier to visualise them, doubt Ill have them ready before the start of the tourney though.
Anything you think I need to change, just let me know
